'If It's Football, It's Vital'

This Is Why We Have Washing Machines

Ian Holloway has explained to everybody why we have washing machines, and he subtly suggests Liverpool buy one.

Speaking to Setnata Sports, Holloway says that the way in which the Barry saga has come to light has highlighted a lack of morality in the modern game.

Praising O'Neill for his handling of the situation, a former Foxes manager himself, said Liverpool should 'put up or shut up'.

On being asked who his tip for the Top 4 would be this season, Holloway said:

'I'd like to think Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa.

'It could be very worrying about Barry and how these things happen. Why does everyone know about that? In the good old days, Liverpool would've made a secret offer to Villa and no-one would've known about it. Not even the player.

'Why is it blasted all over the place? O'Neill is out of the Brian Clough mould but he is himself as well. I think the fella is fantastic. When I hear him on TV, I think people want to play for him.

'He's got some exciting young players and deserves a chance. Hopefully, the American man will give him lots of money to spend and back his judgement.'

Commenting further on the Barry situation, he added:

'You shouldn't air your dirty linen in public, that's why we've got washing machines. You bang it in and it doesn't show.

'Until the figure is agreed and Aston Villa, at the moment, rate Gareth Barry more than Liverpool do as Liverpool are not meeting it [the fee].

'If you want to buy my car, until we agree a price why would my car need to know? My car might find out and get temperamental and not to want to work for me.

'What's the point? Where has the morality gone? Where are we going in this world when you can't even walk outside without getting stabbed these days?

'Football highlights it even more and I don't like it.

'Villa helped bring up that kid. Liverpool want him but must pay the right money or shut up, it's as simple as that. If not, you'll get a chance to move when you're out of contract, young fella.

'It's sorted. Simple isn't it? My world is simple. People call me crazy. I'm not crazy - all the rest of the world is.'

Whether you agree with Holloway or not, I've got to say that gave me one of the best laughs I've had in a long time.

classic, agree with every word
Such a legend!
Top man.
Ian Holloway is quite a character and completely off the wall. The guy is as mad as a hatter. I like the way he jumps entirely off the subject with 'Where are we going in this world when you can't even walk outside without getting stabbed these days?' it's just priceless. Fair play to him though, he has a good understanding of morals, which is more than can be said for dole-dossers of lfc.
funniest manager out there no doubt, if you got to the top of the premiership making people laugh this guy would have more winners medals than sir alex!
Could be John Gregory's best mate.
Daz "whiter than white" Barry...
Did you ever here the 'football results are like birds' quote? Classic! Here's the link...
Looking on some of the more neutral forums, or at least not Villa or Liverpool biased, its seems a lot of people blame MON for leaking the story to the press, is this an article I missed or are they poorly misled individuals?
I Sooooooooo miss Gregory's comments, i flippin' well love that bloke!
Who cares - Liverpool have balls'd it up now regardless & look like chumps in the process. Win win for Villa - we either keep GazBaz or we get 18million for him & replace him with De La Red. I'll be very happy if he stays....finally we can show him we do mean business in the transfer market after-all....
Yatesy. I agree with what you say, but do believe that Villa have developed a lot of goodwill over the last few years with the neutrals, and that can only help with trying to improve our fanbase and move us onto the next level. I hope the Barrygate Saga hasn't diminished that goodwill.
I have seen a couple of ignorant comments from people who aren't in the know keith but anyone with any knowledge of the real situation realises that Liverpoo are out of order and proved to be as with the Robbie Keanegate incident.
Holloway might be a loon but he is a genuine guy and in the same mould as MON.
I've always thought that the PL needs more eccentric managers, then if we get a bad result we can look for the "quote" to cheer us up.
lol excellent. Great read.
I really do hope we stuff liverpoo at home.
chris the villan
He is right about Liverpool hanging out the dirty washing. They have become a laughing stock! They even hang out their own dirty washing. The two owners publicly disagree with each other. Rafa and the owners publicly disagree with each other. A couple of seasons ago even Stevie G almost left because of a similar situation at the club! Bill Shankly must be spinning like a top in his grave!
Not as much 'spinning' as the Scouse paymasters Villa_de! The latest twist in terms of saying Barry is suddenly 'overpriced' is also completely laughable in the context of what has gone on over the last couple of months - absolutely embarrassing for Liverpool & just shows how desperately they are trying to 'spin' this so as to not appear like they can't close the deal after all. What a pathetic saga - the 'Muppet Show' (starring Rafa as Miss Piggy's b1tch) meets 'Deal or No Deal'....
Almost redeems the man after his walking out on Plymouth for Mandaric's pretty pennies. Who'd have thought him a Villa fan? I totally agree. The way Liverpool do business these days is unprofessional and underhand. Tantermount to tapping up.
I love Holloway but must admit that the funniest thing i ever heard was Strachan blaming the team coach driver for a thumping and the next day the coach driver in the sports pages claiming it wasn't his fault!!!! Absolute classic. While we're there, Strachan was once asked for a quick word and he replied "VELOCITY" and left the don't get much better than that.
Keithlees1978 - I'll think you'll find MON didn't and never has wanted to sell Barry so why would he want to unsettle his own player, especially with the last couple of crucial games of the season to go. People believe whatever they want to, but if it gets to september and he's still our player, then MON will have spent 4 months pulling out the stops to keep GB away from liverpool. Surely that should be proof enough that MON never instigated this whole sorry affair by leaking the story to the Liverpool Echo?
Top top man , my favourite english manager , and what he says makes sense in a jumbled up kind of way . I am all for praise for " Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa" However it is my Aston Villa as well !! Hope he gets a decent job soon .
great comments from a great footballing figure. loving it!
The Fear
Great coments and great to see MON and aston villa getting recognistion from other people in football, I am a villa fan, but live in Plymouth and they way Holloway left Argyle was a disgrace and mirrors that of the barry situation so does he really know what he is talking about
leg end
Holloway probbably the funniest and most honest man in football.
Mr A Villa
He's not particularly eloquent as to the way he gets his views across in the media, but he knows exactly what he thinks, and he's never afraid to open up and release both barrels.
Hopefully Holloway wont be lost to the game for too long (he's not back in management is he?). He's a character, and there are way too few of those around right now. All credit to him for never being afraid to voice an opinion, an opinion that often attracts ridicule.
He's a lot like Tommy Docherty was, and we all know how he livened up Villa Park with his pre game/post match interviews.
