Another TICK In The Box For Villa

Well, here goes another 'tick' in the box for Aston Villa as they've today announced that Nike will be the clubs official sportswear partner from 2007/8 in what the club are calling a long term deal.

HURRAH! Quality brands from a prestige company. NO more rubbish like Hummel. Villa are back, instead of looking at tenth rate, they are looking at the best.

Still love my Adidas though! ;-))

Aston Villa Chief Executive, Richard FitzGerald said: 'This is a significant step forward for the club off the field and we're delighted to have Nike partnering with us. Nike brings with it vast experience in technological innovation in terms of kit and the association will help us to drive the club forward. The brand sits perfectly with the new board's vision for Aston Villa and we're looking forward to working with Nike in the future.'

Jim Allaker, Vice President and General Manager of Nike UK, added: 'Aston Villa is a major club with a fantastic history and a massive fanbase. We're delighted they will be joining the Nike family, which already includes national teams such as Brazil and The Netherlands and clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Celtic and FC Barcelona. We're very excited to be part of the club's future and we anticipate a long and successful partnership.'

Well done Villa, another great step forward.

Great news! Finally we have a quality kit manufacturer. Will be interesting to see who the new sponsor will be too. Great to see an end to the short sightedness and small-time thinking of the previous regime

Class. What a great signing. Any team with a Nike kit looks infinitely more professional straight away. I wouldn't say Hummel was tat though - like the fact no-one else has it and also it alludes to our Scandinavian connection.

It can not be under estimated at what a master stroke this is. This puts us firmly 'up there'. In the big picture this is a massive statement of intent. In the smaller picture, the thought of a Nike Villa kit, with the round Villa badge on, containing the 'star', will definitely be worth queueing up at midnight for.

Get in there! No more wearing hummel down the boozer. Next season the barmaid may actually respond to my cheeky grins. Nike usually work with the elite clubs and countries (walsall being the exception) so I echo previous comments of it adding prestige to us. Djemba twins, angel and hendrie to be the stars of the next nike advert?

Why are you all so keen on Adidas? We have absolutely NO tradition of having the 3 stripes of Adidas on our famous kit. We have more tradition with the hummel chevrons - My very first full Villa kit was a hummel. Have you seen the awful Newcastle away strip? It's sort of claret and blue with the adidas stripes and it looks TERRIBLE. I think the Nike Swoosh will look excellent on the Villa kit. Does anyone know the outcome of the badge poll? I strongly feel we should go back to the original traditional crest as used to adorn the Trinity Rd stand. Check out the front of the recent programs. The round badge is WAY too 80's and looks the same as the majority of all the second rate Premier league teams badges (Middlesborough, Chelsea, Sheff Utd, Reading, Charlton, Blackburn... need I go on?)

I also don't see what the fuss about adidas is.... Nike is a WAY bigger brand, and carries with it a huge international recognition. Having just got back from a trip to the states I can say that Nike are leaps and bounds above adidas in terms of brand awareness, the quality of their sotres/advertising etc... they are the market leader in sportswear, no doubt IMHO. Great move by the Villa, and just another part of the Randylution!!! UTV!

This is indeed very good news. I tired to find a copy of a story I had seen last summer but couldn't find it but here is the jist of it. Sometime last year Nike worked with the Orgeon Ducks, College team on the team uniforms. With the input of the players Nike Came up with enough different combos of Home and Away colors that Orgeon could have a possible 200 different uniform combos between Shirts and Pants. Not that I want Villa to have that much choice but that it's nice that the company will take input on the product from the team to such an extent. I expect that next year you will see one of the best kits Villa had even worn.

Randy Lerner was no fool taking on Villa, judging by the money paid for Liverpool. What he didn't spend having to buy a club can be directed at building a club and that's what appear to be happening. I've said before that you don't recruit a heavyweight board and management team if you don't mean business. From the recruitment of MON to the Nike deal, these guys have class and serious, extremely serious, ambition. Just frightened I'm going wake-up and........

I'm so happy! THE authority on football shirts has been chosen to design our beloved kit. I love old school adidas and wear the trainers constantly. But I'm not impressed with the one size fits all attitude to football tops. It's the same design just different colours. Or as my Scots mate puts it... same ****e, different smell. I'll be buying my shirt bext season with pride!

How about doing a Barca and not having one? Nah, the money is too lucrative. Come on the Villa. I wonder if the Villa Village will have a revamp?

I am so pleased about this. Living in Bournemouth, I have never seen a Villa kit in a store like JJB before (outside of Birmingham) - they always have the Man Utd, Celtic, Newcastle, Chelsea kit - i assume this is because those are all made by top brands. I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE MOANING ABOUT NOT GETTING ADIDAS.

Because the club was micro managed prior to the take over thing had to be done by just one man, the new board have appointed people with experience and professionalism in their field given them their remit and left them to crack on. Under the old regeime the club was been strangled by****poor management. These options have always been there its just Villa never had the right man in the right place at the right time.... we had Herbert All the Time.
