Two nails in the coffin of the Barry saga.
The People today claim that if Liverpool don't buy Gareth Barry by next Thursday Martin O'Neill WILL play him in the Uefa Cup game and that will surely obliterate any chance of the Anfield outfit stumping up the money?
Meanwhile Chief Executive Rick Parry of Liverpool has released a statement over the summer long saga on their official site:
'There has been a lot of comment today regarding our position with regards to Gareth Barry. This is not about questioning the Manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player. The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so. It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high.'
Why the hell couldn't they have said that earlier in the summer the numpties? Oh yes, of course, they have managed to unsettle a player at one of their competitors.
Ok, end of.
Gareth, your turn, release a statement saying you will stay at Villa and will sign a new contract with apologies for how the summer has been handled and surely for the majority, all will be well?
He might have wanted out, he is a player not a fan, but if he stays it is a boost for our squad and our ambitions because despite the fact he was silly going to the press - and even more silly going back to the club saying he wanted out after reportedly agreeing to stay - he is still quality and if he settles back down, can help Villa push the top four all the way this season.
