If GB hands in a transfer request, will they let him go for less because he won't get 10%. The scousers are trying to play games and both clubs aswell as GB are looking worse.

The club need to make a statement regarding this on going farce, they should sell him at a reduced price but not to the scousers, let GB put in a transfer request and let the bidding commence but whatever happens i cant see MON keeping him after all that has been said and done, no player is bigger than the club and we dont need to carry a player for 12 months so he can leave at a reduced price at the end of that period.

he wont sign an extension I dont think, but he could stay at VP. I do however see him going to Anfield by Thursday of this week for £15m plus add-ons with possibly Pennant involved somewhere in the deal

A couple of my mates were at the Liverpool/Lazio game and their fans were praising Alonso and singing anti-GB songs most of the game. Apparently there is internal fighting in the ranks on the Kop. Vs. Lazio Anti Barry songs gained momentum and they are blaming 'out of towners' and 'day trippers'. So where do we stand now and ,more importantly, what do the various participants think? MON; will stand on his valuation for GB and not relax it. If GB wants to make up the difference by asking for a transfer and foregoing his testimonial then that's fine by MON and the club. Would he prefer to keep him? he might (hence the threat of playing him in the Intertoto) but keeping him after his express wish to go might be too much disruption for the squad. Is he Captain if he stays, for example? So what if the Scousers don't sign him? He would need to sell him quickly (now or in January) to get any value whatsoever. The Scousers? What a mess they are making of their club. The owners hate each other; they can't finance the buys their manager wants; they can't finance the new ground; they don't trust their manager and he doesn't like them; what a come-down. Benitez? Looking increasingly like a shifty waiter angling for constructive dismissal and the more intelligent squad-members will sense it. It seems to me the only way he will be playing regular football, may keep his England place and won't be sat in the stands most Saturdays for the next year. Will he do that? He might and if he did it could all work out right for him but I suspect he won't and we will witness a very sad, unnecessary and pointless wasting of a talent through poor decisions motivated by greed.

Very interesting that no statement has been made by Villa over all this talk today. Once again, the right way to deal with it. I think Martin and Gareth should be meeting at nine o'clock in the morning and a statement be issued by midday. Gareth with hopefully sack his agent for his part in this whole affair and pledge his future to the club. He has a lot of bridge building to do but I think he will be encouraged by the fantastic reception he received against Odense. Remember Gareth, you only get one chance to play for Villa, don't throw it away too soon. Marry in haste, repent at leisure!

Comical. After 3 months of trying to rob us of Barry with underhand tactics and pass us off with £10 million Carson (£10m lmao. 10p more like) they say that he is overpriced . This from the club who are trying to sell the bloke (Alonso)he will be replacing (and so they must think he is better than) for £16m. Laughable. The points expressed on this topic by all the posters sum it all up nicely. Murderpool have become a bigger laughing stock than they already were. It is simple. They haven't got the money but are trying a final throw of the dice to get him on the cheap. They are bankrupt, morally and financially. Unfortunately I think the signing of Keane will be a good one for them and possibly be enough to keep them ahead of the chasing pack of us, Pompey and Bluescouse. Spuds are a club not to discount either. In 16 years of the Premier league, they have only twice finished in the top 6 and never in the bottom six, they are the most average club imaginable on par with Blackburn, Boro (but with slightly better support admittedly) etc but they may surprise a few people this season.

I agree with Tonybrum, he should apologise, get his head down and help Villa finish above Liverpool, because with their owners and bad atmosphere at the club I am convinced its possible. And definitely easier with Barry than without him! Everyone can make a mistake, but everyone deserves another chance and a fresh start, and if Barry is prepared to apologise and get his head back down, I think its a good thing for him, us and above all else Villa! If MON selects him for duty on Thursday night, and he certainly should do, then this sorry saga will be as good as over. However if MON leaves him out of the line-up, then that will pretty much tell us that GB has no future at VP, and that MON expects him to leave VP before the window closes.

Getting close to the deadline now, but I feel the speculation will not go away, as the window reopens in January.
