Liverpool Won't Pay Barry Fee - End Of Saga?

Liverpool Won't Pay Barry Fee - End Of Saga?

Two nails in the coffin of the Barry saga.

The People today claim that if Liverpool don't buy Gareth Barry by next Thursday Martin O'Neill WILL play him in the Uefa Cup game and that will surely obliterate any chance of the Anfield outfit stumping up the money?

Meanwhile Chief Executive Rick Parry of Liverpool has released a statement over the summer long saga on their official site:

'There has been a lot of comment today regarding our position with regards to Gareth Barry. This is not about questioning the Manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player. The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so. It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high.'

Why the hell couldn't they have said that earlier in the summer the numpties? Oh yes, of course, they have managed to unsettle a player at one of their competitors.

Ok, end of.

Gareth, your turn, release a statement saying you will stay at Villa and will sign a new contract with apologies for how the summer has been handled and surely for the majority, all will be well?

He might have wanted out, he is a player not a fan, but if he stays it is a boost for our squad and our ambitions because despite the fact he was silly going to the press - and even more silly going back to the club saying he wanted out after reportedly agreeing to stay - he is still quality and if he settles back down, can help Villa push the top four all the way this season.

could be the best bit of transfer news all summer. Just needs to sign an extension before thursday, get his head down and score the winning goal aginst them on 31 aug and all will be forgiven. Well mostly. MON must be chuffed, I am.

I am passed caring now and am looking to who we might buy next far more exciting!

If GB hands in a transfer request, will they let him go for less because he won't get 10%. The scousers are trying to play games and both clubs aswell as GB are looking worse.

I reckon it's all over now to be honest. O'Neill isn't going to drop his valuation and Liverfool aren't going to pay the asking price. The final nail in the coffin could come on Thursday - if Barry plays it's 100% saga over.

The club need to make a statement regarding this on going farce, they should sell him at a reduced price but not to the scousers, let GB put in a transfer request and let the bidding commence but whatever happens i cant see MON keeping him after all that has been said and done, no player is bigger than the club and we dont need to carry a player for 12 months so he can leave at a reduced price at the end of that period.

Barry is worth £18 million, he isn't worth anything less than that.

10/08/2008 10:51:00
he wont sign an extension I dont think, but he could stay at VP. I do however see him going to Anfield by Thursday of this week for £15m plus add-ons with possibly Pennant involved somewhere in the deal
10/08/2008 10:57:00
I don't reckon that MON will do any partial deals or swaps or add-ons lee just out of principal as Rafa has p1 ssed MON off so much
