Liverpool Won't Pay Barry Fee - End Of Saga?

Two nails in the coffin of the Barry saga.

The People today claim that if Liverpool don't buy Gareth Barry by next Thursday Martin O'Neill WILL play him in the Uefa Cup game and that will surely obliterate any chance of the Anfield outfit stumping up the money?

Meanwhile Chief Executive Rick Parry of Liverpool has released a statement over the summer long saga on their official site:

'There has been a lot of comment today regarding our position with regards to Gareth Barry. This is not about questioning the Manager's judgement or the ability of a particular player. The owners have clearly demonstrated throughout the year they are willing to back Rafa in the transfer market and will continue to do so. It is obviously the selling club's prerogative to put whatever price they want on the player, but on this occasion Liverpool think the price quoted is too high.'

Why the hell couldn't they have said that earlier in the summer the numpties? Oh yes, of course, they have managed to unsettle a player at one of their competitors.

Ok, end of.

Gareth, your turn, release a statement saying you will stay at Villa and will sign a new contract with apologies for how the summer has been handled and surely for the majority, all will be well?

He might have wanted out, he is a player not a fan, but if he stays it is a boost for our squad and our ambitions because despite the fact he was silly going to the press - and even more silly going back to the club saying he wanted out after reportedly agreeing to stay - he is still quality and if he settles back down, can help Villa push the top four all the way this season.

could be the best bit of transfer news all summer. Just needs to sign an extension before thursday, get his head down and score the winning goal aginst them on 31 aug and all will be forgiven. Well mostly. MON must be chuffed, I am.

If GB hands in a transfer request, will they let him go for less because he won't get 10%. The scousers are trying to play games and both clubs aswell as GB are looking worse.

I reckon it's all over now to be honest. O'Neill isn't going to drop his valuation and Liverfool aren't going to pay the asking price. The final nail in the coffin could come on Thursday - if Barry plays it's 100% saga over.

The club need to make a statement regarding this on going farce, they should sell him at a reduced price but not to the scousers, let GB put in a transfer request and let the bidding commence but whatever happens i cant see MON keeping him after all that has been said and done, no player is bigger than the club and we dont need to carry a player for 12 months so he can leave at a reduced price at the end of that period.

he wont sign an extension I dont think, but he could stay at VP. I do however see him going to Anfield by Thursday of this week for 15m plus add-ons with possibly Pennant involved somewhere in the deal

A couple of my mates were at the Liverpool/Lazio game and their fans were praising Alonso and singing anti-GB songs most of the game. Now Parry and both the American owners have said that they don't want or rate him. Why does he want to got to a place where he isn't wanted by anyone except Rafa and Gerrard??

15 mil plus a player would be good, but i cant see MON doing business with the fat waiter at any cost not after whats happened, if he plays him next week then Barrys options to move anywhere even to the arse would be difficult.

Report Liverpool to the FA. Used to be a big Club but no more. Used to have respect for them but they have lost that now thy have behaved terribly in this pathetic affair. If you want him pay up. If you ain't got the M's then **** RIGHT OFF. They have disrupted our pre season prepartions so reort them. If i were a Liverpool fan i'd be embarrased at the way they have conducted themselves. Carrick, Hargreaves both England fringe players they had a price and the buyers paid it. Oh but that was Man Utd and they understand you pay for what you get not try and rob people. Put up or shut up. Rafa we really can't wait for your trip to VP this season trust me all Villa fans are fed up with Liverpool. MON don't even shake his hand. We've accepted Barry wanted to go however would welcome him back following an apology but LFC have just f****d the whole situaton up with their underhand tactics i hope you finish 5th you will never win the league again. Rafa is not going to turn around the decision of the Liverpool owners after such a public declaration before the end of the transfer window. Plus, we are more likely to see the baggies winning the Prem this season than MON backing down from the 18m asking price. This is THE END of this sorry saga and it now only depends on how Gareth now conducts himself over the next few days. I would expect MON to be talking to Gareth tomorrow and suggesting a public statement is released committing himself to Villa before Thursdays game.

Apparently there is internal fighting in the ranks on the Kop. Vs. Lazio Anti Barry songs gained momentum and they are blaming 'out of towners' and 'day trippers'. I've heard talk of a lot of their fans not actually wanting him..sounds like only Stevie Hypocrit Gerrard and Rafa the only one's who want him there. I thought the Kop was supposed to be the home end seems its not even home to scousers. Embarrasing

What a joke...yesterday Rafa talks about one player left sided, who can play 3 positions as he is short on that side of the pitch, and that money was not an issue.TheN Parry comes out today and says the figure is too high. This stinks of Barry's agent trying to get Villa to drop the price in light of the fact Barry can buy himself out of his contract for 2 mill next year.F**k him, let him rot. The facts were spelled out months ago with the cost for the player. They spent the money they had elsewhere, and clearly do not have the funds, or potential buyers for their fringe players to get the funds before the end of Aug.TOUGH F**KING ****!!...Barry your agent is mugging you off in the front of the whole Premier league.Do you think you will maintain your england place, playing left midfield!!!..after all the years you played in different positions.Only when MON got you settled in the middle did things come right!! what a real shame!!..UTV

So where do we stand now and ,more importantly, what do the various participants think? MON; will stand on his valuation for GB and not relax it. If GB wants to make up the difference by asking for a transfer and foregoing his testimonial then that's fine by MON and the club. Would he prefer to keep him? he might (hence the threat of playing him in the Intertoto) but keeping him after his express wish to go might be too much disruption for the squad. Is he Captain if he stays, for example? So what if the Scousers don't sign him? He would need to sell him quickly (now or in January) to get any value whatsoever. The Scousers? What a mess they are making of their club. The owners hate each other; they can't finance the buys their manager wants; they can't finance the new ground; they don't trust their manager and he doesn't like them; what a come-down. Benitez? Looking increasingly like a shifty waiter angling for constructive dismissal and the more intelligent squad-members will sense it. Expect to see many fireworks, players 'leaks' to the press just as soon as results go badly. GB? I'm sorry to say but he has been a naive muppet; manipulated by his friendship with Stevie G and by the machinations of his manager. Doesn't have the balls to request a transfer, isn't now sure whether the Scousers can buy him and presumably reading the same things we are about the fans on both sides now losing faith in him. Not many options left for him really. The best would be to issue a completely frank apology to the clud and us fans, ask forgiveness, dismiss all transfer options and work for his place. It seems to me the only way he will be playing regular football, may keep his England place and won't be sat in the stands most Saturdays for the next year. Will he do that? He might and if he did it could all work out right for him but I suspect he won't and we will witness a very sad, unnecessary and pointless wasting of a talent through poor decisions motivated by greed.

lost all respect for liverpool, they used to be such a classy outfit. now these yanks have turned them into a laughing stock. its taken them three months to realise 18m is too much? they have known what the price is all summer - end of. Very poor tactics to get the player on the cheap. How dare they. I know what oneills reaction will be; '18m is the price, if they dont have the money they cant have the player'. Also that they are turning their attention to Silva is comical, if they wont pay 18m for Barry, 18m for Silva is *****in hilarious.

to be honest stig, the scousers have been laughing stock for years! every year they say there gonna win the league, and every year they fail to pick up basic points against the lesser teams. which man u and chelsea do with their 2nd team out. i think the scouse scum have got a fight on there hands for 4th with villa, pompy and spurs spending the money this summer. liverpool have bought keane and think there problems are over. how stupid can they get, still have p*** poor wingers and a very suspicious defence. would be interesting to see how they do if gerrard gets an injury for a month or 2

roni_spurs, you say Barry has no right foot, so! whats your point, maradonna, giggs, have no right foot it aint stooped them, and it aint stopped Barry, he's an England regular under different managers, Gazza, Liniker, Shearer, rooney, to name a few, didn't or don't have a left foot, does that make them any less of a player, NO IT DOSEN'T but where as the 4 strikers can only score, barry can 1. defend 2. tackle. 3. pass anywhere 4. score. 5 run for 90 mins and 6. captain his team very well, and 7. play in alot of different positions very well, so all in all he's an excellent player in many ways, and 18 mill is the asking price, if you don't like it it then 4uck off, next time you go out to buy a beer tell the landlord its not worth that and i'll give you half of the price, the answer may surprise you, let us all know how you go on!

Very interesting that no statement has been made by Villa over all this talk today. Once again, the right way to deal with it. I think Martin and Gareth should be meeting at nine o'clock in the morning and a statement be issued by midday. Gareth with hopefully sack his agent for his part in this whole affair and pledge his future to the club. He has a lot of bridge building to do but I think he will be encouraged by the fantastic reception he received against Odense. Remember Gareth, you only get one chance to play for Villa, don't throw it away too soon. Marry in haste, repent at leisure!

Its time it ended now we have an important game on thursday. The easy way to look at it is Liverpool do not really want him cause forget the asking price they would have pulled there finger out by now. Many Liverpool fans themselves are really unsure about Barry so why go to somewhere you are not wanted. At the end of the day 99.9% of villa fans would have him back in the starting 11. How will Barry start to feel if we carry on adding players and especially if they are of the quality of cole, RSC or others of real quality, what does he do apart from sack is money grabbing agent!

Comical. After 3 months of trying to rob us of Barry with underhand tactics and pass us off with 10 million Carson (10m lmao. 10p more like) they say that he is overpriced . This from the club who are trying to sell the bloke (Alonso)he will be replacing (and so they must think he is better than) for 16m. Laughable. The points expressed on this topic by all the posters sum it all up nicely. Murderpool have become a bigger laughing stock than they already were. It is simple. They haven't got the money but are trying a final throw of the dice to get him on the cheap. They are bankrupt, morally and financially. Unfortunately I think the signing of Keane will be a good one for them and possibly be enough to keep them ahead of the chasing pack of us, Pompey and Bluescouse. Spuds are a club not to discount either. In 16 years of the Premier league, they have only twice finished in the top 6 and never in the bottom six, they are the most average club imaginable on par with Blackburn, Boro (but with slightly better support admittedly) etc but they may surprise a few people this season.

I agree with Tonybrum, he should apologise, get his head down and help Villa finish above Liverpool, because with their owners and bad atmosphere at the club I am convinced its possible. And definitely easier with Barry than without him! Everyone can make a mistake, but everyone deserves another chance and a fresh start, and if Barry is prepared to apologise and get his head back down, I think its a good thing for him, us and above all else Villa! If MON selects him for duty on Thursday night, and he certainly should do, then this sorry saga will be as good as over. However if MON leaves him out of the line-up, then that will pretty much tell us that GB has no future at VP, and that MON expects him to leave VP before the window closes.
