Gareth Barry Might Stay After-all !

Well well, looks like Gareth Barry might be staying at Villa afterall.

HA HA! The Daily Mirror claim that the much loved new owners of Liverpool can't raise the cash for Gareth Barry so the deal could well be off !

According to the Times, Gareth Barry might himself pull the plug on a possible move to Liverpool if the Anfield outfit can't get the transfer sorted before the new season starts.

Arsenal are also linked but they have enough problems of their own meeting the payments for the Emirates Stadium and despite selling some players this summer, it isn't usually Arsene Wengers way to splash out £18million on a player.

I would LOVE to see Gareth Barry be the one to pull the plug and despite the fact it will be difficult for him to pledge allegiance, at least he can come out with some sort of apology and look to commit to Villa at least for this season, then everyone can assess what progress we have made and maybe he'll not need to move anywhere to fulfil his Champions League ambitions?

Despite his antics, I'd still love to see him stay, obviously he is the engine of our team and a key part of it.

Certainly been one of the longest running transfer saga's I can remember, if nothing else Liverpool have managed to unsettle the best player of one of their rivals!

Injury to Gerrard means Alonso will play in CL qualifier. That's his value for this season down through the floor with him being cup tied, so LFC won't want to 'give' him away. No bids apparently for Pennant or Voronin = no cash to buy GB. They still have 23 days, but I don't think it will happen this TW. They may try again in Jan, but hopefully GB will realise by then that the grass isn't always greener...

Thing is Barry might now see we are bringing in decent players and are looking stronger, i remember last season he came out saying we need more players and is surprised not to see anyone come in (before the Young transfer) I mean if lets say we brought someone decent on the right like Pederson/Milner/SWP/Santana/ and maybe Lennon, and then if we did bring in Kaboul as well we would have a very strong squad, and if let's say we brought in a class striker like Huntelaar then we would be challenging the top 5 think.

DoLpHiNaToR, i doubt MON would let it run right to the end of the season, i know he said he would but we would need a rapid replacment, and it would end into a little panic.

Kick him out, this is nonsense. If Barry is going to pull the plug he should do it now, he may want to join Liverpool and he obviously wants champions league football but he can't hate this club after all this time and its easy to see its damaging our potential for this season. If he lets this run to the end of the window I'll be dissapointed unless the WHOLE of Villa park boo him on his return, Rafa is dirupting our progress and Gareth is helping him. I want some action, either and apology and a statement telling Rafa there's no deal, or some kind of pre contract with a season long loan to Liverpool with the intention of a full payout by these other yanks. This is taking the pi ss.

I still think he will move BUT it would be the best piece of transfer news if he didn't! Pulling the plug on the move has GOT to come from GB though. Fingers crossed some truth in this

At the end of the day we need quality players on the pitch to push on so it would be handy if he stayed,However the man has embarrased himself with the way he has handled this whole thing.

In reality I think MON has no resigned himself to Barry leaving and is activiely looking to replace him [according to some rumours], so if he stays it will be a real bonus but MON is preparing for life without him so it doesn't matter how long it takes for him to go. It will be interesting to see if he's on the bench for the UEFA game next week - if he still here then. I am sure Barry was under the impression he would leave this week, and he must be gettign concerned - hos head must be 'all over the place'as MON says - he may well decide enough is enough though to get on and play some football and tell MON he wants to stay - it could happen. If he does stay than I don't think he'll ever go to 'pool after the way they have messed him around. I'm sure Barry's inistence that the deal was kept open was based on the fact he thought it would be wrapped up quickly!

As I have consistently said, I would be happy if he stayed, and for 18m, we can't grumble if he goes. However he may also be hedging his bets now. Murderpool getting Standard Liege in the CL qualifier is by no means a walkover. Without Gerrard, Mascherano (and another midfielder who is away at the Olympics but whose name I can not remember) the game may be a lot more difficult than they would like. They will not want to call on Alonso because if he plays, he will be cup tied and his value will plummet. It is an entirely feasible situation that Murderpool will be knocked out of the CL and be in the UEFA Cup with us. Now that is a bonus for us, but would be catastrophic for them because they are practically bankrupt and in desperate need of the money. How embarrassing would it be for Barry if he goes there and then finishes up in the UEFA Cup with us. If there is a god then he will create a Villa v Murderpool UEFA Cup final with either Barry getting a last minute winner for us. This could be in claret & blue or as an own goal in red. Praise the Lord.

Not sure how I feel, Barry has been a disgrace all summer, he should have realised at the "deadline" last week that it wasnt happened and said so then, then most of us would have been happy, now it seems as if he is staying against his will. So not bothered now if he stays or goes. It will take alot to convince me his heart is in the right place, he could start with a man of the match performance on 31st August.

When Villa announced that the deadline had passed All the press had been tipped off that Liverpool had the money but missed the deadline by 15 minutes. Gareth obviously believed this. Now 10 days later the money has still not materialised. Even he is not that stupid and must realise that the money does not exist. It is going to take a pretty fulsome apology for me to accept him back. But as I bleed claret and blue once the first ball is kicked I will back him if he is wearing a Villa shirt and putting in 100%.

Would love to see closure on this. Can't really see him staying at all, despite the bin-dippers dragging their feet. My biggest worry is that it will drag on until the 31st of Aug, meaning we have to react right at the last minute to get a replacement. That said I am sure that M'ON already has a replacement lined up!

not bothered anymore really. If he stays play him, we're better with him in the team. If he goes we'll get 18m cash which I now have more confidence that MON will be able to spend, even if it takes him till the end of jan to do so. But I've been thinking for a few days we may still have Barry come september. Especially since we no longer need finnan at RB. I think MON is insisting on cash only since he knows its his last chance of keeping Barry. Regardless of what Barry does or says between now and september, if he's still here I think MON will play him. He knows his value to our team when he plays and really 18m in cash doesn't cover it.

It is simple Barry was our best player last season and is not for sale.If liverpool want to buy him they have to pay the price that we say.If they dont want to pay it or CAN'T then that should be the end of it.If Gerrard wants to play with Barry then he would be better of comin to the villa (if we would have him?) than a club who are now becoming a joke with a manager who spits his dummy out when things dont go his way.

I actually want him to go, with the 16-19m we get spend 12m on Johnson and you have an extra 4m odd to get Sananta and with that i reckon we'll have a top squad, the only missing piece would be a perfect finisher, but you never know what kind of Agbonlahor or Delfonso we'll have next season and then there's Young and Sananta and Johnson setting up the goals and scoring the goals, we really need Johnson. We do need a right winger though, Sananta would be cheap and perfect for me, but maybe we'll get SWP now Robinho is close to moving to Chelsea, Or what about Pederson from Blackburn ? I'm sure he'll come if we put in an interest and he was out shadowed last season with Bentley so shouldn't be too expensive, then there is Milner but their manager is basically saying he is a rouch dimond and he can be a fantastic player so no doubts 10-15m for him.... stupid i know, then you have Lennon in which it seems Ramos wanted rid but then asks for stupid money, Lennon isn't worth the 8-9m he is valued at, he isn't even playing first team football.

I was delighted when he said he would stay, but I've grown so used to the thought of him leaving that I really would like him to just leave now. I've rated Petrov all through and have always thought he would come good. The end of last season showed what a gifted player he is and I reckon with Barry gone he will shine like the star he is in centre midfield. Reo and Petrov in the middle with Carew and Gabby up front and SWP and Young on the wings or behind the front two would be an awesome line up!

Let's just sell him to Arsenal for 16m and get Johnson, Face facts Barry has had enough of Villa and thinks he is above everyone else, then what do you think the other players will think when you had him a 70k a week deal ? They will be fuming won't they, and Barry needs to do a lot to make up for it. If Barry didn't want to go i think we would of looked more attractive to come to, and the likes of SWP etc would storm over here knowing we have Young, Barry, Agbonlahor, Carew, Sidwell, Laursen, Friedel, and upcoming Davies and Reo Coker with the likes of Routledge, Maloney and Salifou always improving that is what could of been a very attractive but when you have Barry on the headlines saying he wants Champions League football and doesn't think Villa will reach them heights then it will make people wonder if we really can if our best player is moving on, But now we have Young and Shorey we'll look a bit more attractive and a club that is finally sorting it self out, all we need to know now is if Barry is staying or going and we can move on, i would say try for Johnson now and get him before Barry leaves, if he doesn't then we have some class players for once if he does then we have his replacement sorted.

To sell him to Arsenal Villa 4 Ever, they have to show an interest in him, and that hasn't been the case up to now. There's no love lost between Wenger and Benitez, Arsenal and Liverpool, so I think its fair to say that if Wenger wanted him, he'd have made a move by now.
