Friday's Aston Villa Press Talk Hotting Up!

Friday's Aston Villa Press Talk Hotting Up!

Plenty of rumours, including quotes from Harry Redknapp, that Villa will win the race ahead of Portsmouth for Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. The Sun say Villa are close to signing the 22-year old to make it three signings in 24 hours. They claim we've offered £4million.

The Times also claim that both Everton and Villa will battle it out to buy Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson. The England U21 star has turned down a new five-year contract at City and that could spark a bidding war with Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool also apparently in the race.

According to Norwich site Canary Corner Villa are looking at a £25million double swoop on West Ham for the much linked central defender Anton Ferdinand plus former Canary, striker Dean Ashton. They claim we'll bid around £15m for Ashton and £10m for Ferdinand. With a sell on clause in his contract, Norwich would also benefit apparently.

One of the gossip sites has linked us to Atletico Madrid fullback Gourkas Seitaridis. Hmmm, not convinced!

Another claims Villa are interested in Swedish international Sebastian Larsson. Newcastle and Wigan are also linked to the 23-year-old Blues player who was bought from Arsenal. A price of around £5million is being talked about and apparently he's been linked with an exit ever since the Blues were relegated. Must admit I think there should be a rule that players should have to stay with the team that goes down for one season, afterall they are the players that contributed to the relegation aren't they?!

I am unsure on Seb Larsson, I think a lot of fans rate him on this site but I think he is a Championship player really. Saying that I admit I havent seen too much of the lad to judge him properly.

Kaboul looks a cert. Johnson would be nice but can't see it. Why do we need Ferdinand? Would he replace Davis or Laursen? Can't see it. Ashton would be nice, can't see that either. Larsson I'd take.

Ashton - please. Ferd - don't need him if we fet Kaboul - one or the other please. Larssson - definitely Prem class, better than his mate at Arsenal; Bendtner. Fingers crossed guys, just a MF, ST, and poss a right or left winger....definitely a striker to compete with Gab and Carew tho, big Ashton would be perfect.

Whats all this talk on Villa Blog about a mystery transfer record signing??? Is it just a ploy to get a lot of publicity for the site or truth?? Anyone heard anything more?

Lmao i saw it as well, the only signing i would want to see from abroad right now would be Santana for the right wing and he would only cost 4m so hardly smashing our transfer record, and Huntelaar that would set us back around 10-18m and i still don't think we'd land him, i think it's just a ploy because why would they pick up the rumour if nothing on Newsnow has come up with any decent players from abroad over the last week or do ?

Ashton would be a great signing, I would love to see him pushing Gabby to earn a starting place next to Big John. Ferdinand would also be a great signing, Laursen is getting on now, and just imagine Ferdinand (improving under MONs tutelage) and Davies as our CBs in a couple of years, with both of them having improved a lot - fantastic! Kaboul - not interested thanks. Larsson and Johnson - both decent players (not too sure about Larsson), and both would nicely increase competition for our midfield places. Really want to see a good RW/RM though, please MON!

Yes, a bit miffed at Pompey as we were hoping as fans to get Shorey & Kaboul. Good luck to them & you, we can't want we want all the time.

I got an email from one of the site journos and he more or less hinted at who it is.... It could be bull but I don't think it's a scam. If he reveals his source then that source is unlikely to provide more info, and as he's been pretty accurate up to now i can see why he's hesistant to say more yet.

Agree V4E, I've been over there a few times and the chap who writes regulary states about inside info he gets via text. Good bit of PR work on his behalf it seems. Although, with regards to signings from abroad, I wouldn't mind seeing how Saviola or Aguero would get on in claret and blue.
