'If It's Football, It's Vital'

As If By Magic, A Second New Villa Player Appears

Good grief, just like buses, you wait for ages then two come along at the same time, or so I'm told. I don't do public transport, I'm just too posh!!!!! :o)

Anyway, Villa last night completed the second purchase of the day bringing in a right back.

YES, a right-back!

29-year-old Luke Young joined from Middlesbrough.

The player told the official site that he wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity to move to a club like Villa adding,

'I'm really pleased to be here at Villa. It's happened quite quickly. One minute I was training up at Boro and the next I'm down here for a medical. Obviously I'm glad to be here now but it could have been a year earlier. There was interest last summer but it didn't quite happen for whatever reason. I'm just glad to find myself here now. I think this is a great opportunity for me to try and win something.I think at the minute Villa are a notch above Boro and there's a great opportunity for me to play European football as well.'

He also says, much like Nicky Shorey earlier in the day, that Villa can match his ambitions and is looking forward to playing in Europe.

Vital Villa asked how good a signing you thought Luke Young was. Similar to the Nicky Shorey poll earlier in the day,

76% voted good signing, 15% great signing, 7% poor signing and 2% average signing. So again, the majority seem happy with the arrival.

Gareth Southgate told the Boro official site: "We've had some enquiries from Villa over the last few days and they've come up with an offer that we think is acceptable to us. Sometimes an offer can be one that makes it very difficult to turn down."

Right, who next?!?

Kaboul next defensive signing, possibly having a medical today! Then we move on to the exciting signings MF and Strikers Whoop whoop!

Agreed Tez, a wow player or two to add to the solid signings and we'll all be set for the new season!? Looks like with Shorey and Young we have 'Mr Reliables' as they keep being called, that is superb news for full back positions.
The Fear
i think he'll go for Kaboul and then move up to working on our midfield... SWP would be nice!
Makai
Kaboul can also play defensive midfield so perhaps will give some competition to NRC and Petrov also. I would imagine he is move defensive than those 2 anyway so with that and a RB we could see more of Routledge (or someone new) and Young in high attacking positions.

A lot of West Ham fans I work with seem to be getting worried about Ashton going to us...it was in the Evening Standard paper 2 nights ago. What a signing he'd be...that strike against us on the last day was pure genius.
olafthegreat
I still reckon there is another right back coming in aswel.
Danzel
Nice Mr Benn reference there!!!

Posh Fear??? im sure iv seen you scooting around in a robin reliant until it broke down and you got a fold away bike out :) any ways, at least weve got the ball rolling with the signings, like i said when the window opened MoN always does his thing at the end of the window

The Sun reported Middlesborough were looking to replace Young with Hoyte which I find both strange and unlikely

That's it. Go for Ashton and then David Villa. What a forward line: Ashton Villa.
sick note
Must be the hot Spanish sun that's spurring MON into action all of a sudden. Whatever it is, two good signings, players that will slot immediately into the starting line-up, helping give us quite a formidable looking defence - on paper at least.

I cant see The Hammers letting Ashton leave the club olafthegreat, it wouldn't make any sense, and would surely tick off their supporters big-time. They've no need to sell, and I haven't read or heard anything that would suggest that Ashton wants out. We should have landed the guy when he was at Crewe.
glensider
Out of the two, Hoyte or Young, I'd very definitely opt for Young. If Hoyte is Boro's choice as a replacement, we've definitely got the better end of the deal.
