Nicky Shorey Completes Villa Move

Villa have confirmed that left-back Nicky Shorey has completed his move from Reading to Villa on a three year deal.

The 27-year-old told the official site that he is sure he can achieve all he wants to in the game at Villa Park.

'I'm delighted to be here. It's all come out of the blue a bit but it's a great challenge for me. This is a massive club and I'm really looking forward to it. There were other clubs interested but this is such a big club. Obviously I talked to the manager and he's very positive and very ambitious. That's what I am - especially after last season. I want to get back into the Premier League and show people what I can do. So I'm just grateful for the opportunity to play for such a big club as Aston Villa. I think I can achieve everything I want in the game at a club like this.'

He also says you can tell that Villa are going places, well the team are, they are over in Spain at a training camp! (Collective groan)

He added, 'I'm looking forward to just getting out on the training pitch with the lads first and obviously I know Steve Sidwell very well so that's a bonus - to have such a good friend at the club who can help me settle in. I've spoken to Steve and he's only had positive things to say about Villa. So it's going to be great to link up with him again because we're really good mates.'

Vital Villa asked what sort of signing you thought he'd be:

Good signing (80%)
Great signing (14%
Average signing (6%)
Poor signing (0%)

Seems to be fairly well received then! Our latest poll asks the same on Boro's Luke Young.

You lot happy now?

I'm really pleased about this signing. He's a good player and exactly the right kind of mentality for the team that MON is building; competitive but thoughtful and knowledgable about his play as well.

and everyone was so negative yesterday!! ;)

nice to see some action in the transfer market at last, and yeah shorey is pretty decent and shows the ambition MON has.

Hopefully Shorey will settle quickly into VP with Sidders and regain their respective form. We need them to.
holte ender 1969
what are singings? ;-)

Good full back, sweet left foot, better going forward than Freddie. Defence is starting to take shape. A top quality keeper and now a strong looking back four of hopefully Young, Laursen, Davies, and Shorey. Dont stop Mart. Now you're scratching the itch, get three or four more in - we're gonna need them.

The son-in-law told me that he (Shorey) was sitting next to Steve Sidwell last weekend, should have had more faith in MON taking things forward from there.
glensider
At last. Well happy so far with aquisitions. Keep it up MON.
