Boro Confirm Fee Agreed For Luke Young.

The official Middlesbrough site has confirmed that Luke Young is in talks with Aston Villa after the clubs agreed a fee for the right-back.

They say: The player is expected to start negotiations this morning at the West Midlands club.

How gutted would you be if you were a Boro fan or Gareth Southgate with a player coming in one season and wanting out the next?

Good news. Hope the fee's not ridiculous though for a 29-year old. Good solid defender and good going forward.
Curteece
great news to be honest, i dont care how much, its a right back, thats was so desperately needed! get shorey in too and our defence is looking stronger than last season. Friedel in goal, MON is sorting out the leaky goals that were conceded
krisvilla
Good signing,29 is not old by the way.
lerneravfc
Really happy about this. He's a very good attacking right back something we've note seen for at least 3 years. Agree to get Shorey in too and we will be stronger at the back.
nottinghamvillain
i thought xmas was months away, thank you santa!!
krisvilla
shorey too!!!! they are spoiling us
krisvilla
Wasn't saying 29 was old, I am almost there myself, it's just 5mil may be a bit on the pricey side. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy! Much better than having CG on the right in all due respect, and he can now concentrate on becoming a quality midfielder. Shorey is also solid although sometimes a bit slow, although Bouma's not the quickest anyway. We're more than compensated on the left with Ashley's pace! Good news all round!
Curteece
It looks like the Generals words have had the required effect and kick started the transfer merrygoround. If the report from the Canaries is true, that we have bid for Dean Ashton and Anton Ferdinand for a total of 25m, then we are well on our way to building a competive team. The only question is why has it taken so long, they were all there six weeks ago. I hope it is because MON was waiting to see how the youngsters shaped up before commiting to the big spend.
Obediah
I doubt the truth in the case of Ferdinand and Ashton but both are decent enough players. Chuffed with the addition of both Young and Shorey. Both solid full backs with competent capabilities in defence and going forward. Great business.
Mayo_12
I get the feeling that MON was holding out for maybe another right back and that has now fallen though so he's gone for plan B. Either way - it's a signing!!! Praise the lord! (As long as he does sign.....)
melski
I can't think of much worse than paying 25m for Ashton and Ferdinand, I heard Spurs were looking at a 20m bid for Ashton and I nearly choked on my pi ss, joke of a price tag for a fairly standard player.
PTP
Id be over the moon with Ashton. How much would he cost though 15m?
son_of_cher
PTP - you nearly choked on your pi ss? What were you doing drinking pi ss?
IanSymes
Hahahaha! Was it a piece of pi ss?
Rawlie
True Obediah, I thought the Generals words would have hindered MON but it looks like other players are now choosing us over Sunderland and Pompey. Maybe because it is known that there is monies around
Villan444
Think the two signings will be awesome, at least we will have a proper defence next year. Gardner hopefully will then be given te chance in midfield, really really happy with this. Next is the right side of midfield, someone who will give ash a little room on the left, or someone similar to him and they can swap during the game, that always drives defenders nuts. But so far so good, See dont now what I was worried about!!!! Clean underpants and witha bit of luck they will be intact!!!!!
erv2005
2 great signings (I hope) today, really strengthens our defensive line, and with Davies just about back as well, + two new GKs, things are looking much much better at the back. As regards Ashton and Ferdinand, I'd love to have them both for 25million - both very good players!
romanianvillain
Obediah - does anything ever satisfy you. I think if we were to hear that SWP and De La Red had been signed, you'd find something to criticise and complain that we should have signed them 2 months ago.
villacross
Villan444 - I think it's the other way round. Krulay new what was in the wind and felt comfortable in giving us a little "confidence" injection by speculating good news was imminent. He's a cute cookie; otherwise he would have undoubtedly kept quiet.
villacross
I think it's great that we were linked to Luke Young maybe 2 days ago topes and we sign him up now. Out of allllll the RB's we were linked too, he was never one of them this year and now that he is we sign him up instantly. Very strange. I'm happy though. 5mil is fine with me, if Lerner has the money why should we care about 5mil?
los_angeles_villan
Get in there!!! A right back!!! YES YES YES!!!!!!
Villan-in-Cyprus
I feel like a kid at Christmas after all the waiting I finally get a pressie!!!.This is good business 2 good English full backs for under 9M nice one MON.
happyvillan
MON is building a future England Xi. Not complaining about signings as he has proved us doubters (me included) all wrong and that targets were being chased. Who cares if they are not his first choice or not. Good reliable and honest players whom with MON guidance will hopefully regain an international callup. Now, who for RM? SWP maybe, or someone else?
holte ender 1969
Yes, forget how much the fee is Curteece. We need a right full back, he's a decent one, and seemingly available. The last thing we need to worry about right now is paying a few bob over the going rate. Start worrying about pocket change and we'll be another twelve months without a right back.
glensider
Two good signings wrapped up today. The Spanish sun clearly suits our Mart, lets send him over there more often. Hard to believe, a specialist right full back at long last.
