'If It's Football, It's Vital'

O'Neill Will Get It Right

Cyrille Regis has backed Martin O'Neill to 'get it right' in the transfer market and bolster our squad with quality.

The former Villan knows O'Neill well and has nothing but praise for the man who used to manage him.

Speaking on the official site, Big Cyrille said:

'I played for Martin and I know his style. He is a fantastic motivator. I played under him for a year when I was 37. We did a deal in seven minutes.

'I sat down with Martin in Warwick and I was delighted to sign for him. He had taken Wycombe from non-league to a very impressive league side.

'He had a good reputation even back then as being a super manager and it was fantastic to play for him.

'He had also signed Simon Garner and I think we were the oldest strike partnership in the league at the time. Martin wasn't scared of age because he knew we could do a good job.

'I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. What stood out were his motivational skills.

'He is super with his players but he is also disciplined as well, which is what you need. He keeps you on your toes.'

Regis thinks O'Neill has already done a fantastic job of starting the rebuild of our club and he's sure it will continue and we will go from strength to strength.

'He has done fantastically at Villa. He took over after a season of struggle and there has been an upward spiral since.

'He bought in some players that raised a few eyebrows, like Ashley Young. But that has proved to be a good bit of business.

'He is not afraid to experiment and throw youngsters in. Look at Gabby Agbonlahor and Craig Gardner. If you are professional and can do the business on the pitch, Martin is happy. He has no fear.

'He is determined and considered in his approach to management. He is well respected and rightly so. He has had success wherever he has gone.'

Just be nice when a few come in and the season kicks off, then we can get back to the real business!
The Fear
No moaning - for once - Cyrille is a legend - end of chat.

Knowing Cyrille personally, I can say he is a man of truth and integrity, a true gentleman. If MON is good enough for Cyrille, then he is good enough for me.

MON will get it right but in which decade?

oi bellywipes. If 26.05.82 can hold back on the moaning for once then I'm sure you can! Now behave yourself. I remember collecting Cyrille's footballl sticker in my album when I was a nipper in the 70s. The bloke (MBE) is a legend.

Fingers crossed that MON doesn't prove Mr Regis wrong. Remember going to his testimonial for the Albion with my Grandad a some years back, they played Jamaica.

I believe that MON will get it right, there's no one else I'd rather have in charge of the team right now. I am getting a little bit concerned though, but I felt that way back in the summer of '80 when we had only added Peter Withe to the squad from the season before. Look what happened then!!

I believe that we're probably six quality players short of where we need to be. Decent runs this side of Christmas in the UEFA Cup and the League Cup will test our playing resources severely. We have to be fully equipped before the window closes. Come on Mart. Get 'em in.
