'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Guzan Looking To Make His Mark

Brad Guzan can't wait to get to Bodymoor Heath and attempt to emulate the American Goalkeepers who have graced the Premiership.

Speaking on the official site, our new goalkeeping capture is certainly making the right noises since his successful application for a work permit.

'Growing up as an American goalkeeper, you see the likes of Brad, Tim, Kasey (Keller) and Marcus (Hahnemann) doing well.

'Being able to follow in their footsteps is truly a dream come true.

'I dreamt of making saves like Brad in the Premier League so now being able to have a chance to do the same is unbelievable.

'They have set the bar so high and I look forward to trying to make my mark.

'The Premier League is huge in the United States. It's one of the biggest leagues in the world and I think it will continue to improve. I am so excited to be part of it.'

There has been some debate as to whether Villa's 'branding in the States' will improve with having both Brad's in the squad, but it certainly can't hurt.

Guzan continued:

'It's about being consistent and being a guy who the team can count on.

'If we are tied 0-0 in the last minute and I need to make a big save, you want the defenders to look back at you and know that they rely on you to make that important stop.

'They should have total confidence in you.'

Brave words from such a young man, let's see if O'Neill has unearthed a gem when he returns from the Olympics!

If he turns out half as good as the other American keepers who have come over like Friedel, Keller and Howard, we'll be laughing, especially at around £2m!
The Fear
Yes, its a gamble, but not an expensive one, so nothing really lost if he doesn't make the grade. Far from the finished article, needs to improve on several aspects of his game, but I'm happier with his arrival than I would have been about keeping Carson.

Good luck to him in the Olympics. Cant see the Yanks winning the tournament, but they have enough about them to progress deep into the competition.
