Wednesday's Villa Press Transfer Talk

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

The transfer gossip for today?

According to The Times, Aston Villa have narrowed down the choices for full-back to the much linked Justin Hoyte of Arsenal - often muted as part payment towards a Gareth Barry transfer.

The recent link to Middlesbrough's Luke Young... hmmm, not sure on that one!

OR Paulo Ferreira of Chelsea.

And that, is that. Even the papers have given up on us signing anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Martin, the doom and gloom in the forums, the pubs and places of work is unbearable and fingers are wrongly pointing at the board as well. There must be ONE player at least we could buy in the next day or so...!?

Oh, and the press have picked up on the comments by The General that Randy has the money there and will back the manager. He used 30m as an example and now the press are full of Randy is looking to bring in 30m players. Maybe we should go for David Villa?!?!

As we mentioned yesterday, General Charles Krulak said (not sure if this was on our forum, Villa Talk or H&V and typically, the press don't quote the source, despite moaning at us if we ever don't:

'If Martin O’Neill came to Randy and said, ‘I need 30m for player X’, and the player would fit into what we are trying to do, Randy would have his chequebook out before Martin could get past the player’s name. Additionally, he will be equally ready to fund the other players that Martin says he needs. Randy has never said no to Martin.'

'Randy is no Roman Abramovich, but he does have a wallet and he will open it. Martin knows that. Randy has made it perfectly clear we do not have to sell a player to buy a player. 'Randy is in it for the long term. He wants Europe, he wants winning football. He wants entertainment for the fans.'

'This is more than a business to him. Villa is a passion.'

I read in the gospel that is the Sun that both us and Sunderland have had a bid accepted for Shorey.

I saw the Generals comments reported and found it funny how the headline read "Lerner to bring 30mil signing to Villa", funny how things are translated.

It must be true if its in print (joking) I wonder who it will be....

More than ever I'm hoping that the "I could sign seven players in one day" quote from O'Neill comes to fruition. I know he didn't mean it seriously, but he needs to start meaning it seriously - the squad we have is barely capable of Premier League survival never mind a lasting effort in two english cups, a european competition, and maintaining our top 6 status in the league.

If MON spends 30m on one player he's getting a spank

It isn't going to happen PTP, it's just the press twisting what Krulak said.

If MON brought in 3 players for 10m i'd be very surprised but we all know it won't happen, even Bolton have spent 15m so far this season on 2 players.

Obviously he won't, its hard enough for him to spend 5m. I know what Charles was saying I was just expressing my view that we don't need superstars.

Haha, nice col8. We've got some good squad numbers left to fill at the moment, lets hope the players come in for the shirts. A no.2! PLEASE!

if shorey goes to sunderland , we are doing something very wrong in negotiations with players . I am hopeful though .

Nick, everyones going to Blunderland at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. Fingers crossed though, he'd be a good addition to the squad and he'd give Bouma some competition too.

Surely he'd pick us over them for footballing reasons? Lets get Sidwell out there, put out some kind of plea to Shorey in the Sun. Hopefully they're good mate's, if they are we could have 2 fullbacks. We'd be living the dream.

Am in a proper negative mood today PTP , sidwell has probably being shagging shorey's missus , and they hate each other . If it is down to footballing reasons he has got to pick villa .Sunderland were rubbish last year.

Do they hate each other or is that your negativity? Sidwells ginger, gingers can't swing.

Bearing in mind how much the media have taken the Generals comment out of context and added a bit more in some cases , How much of the GB saga is true ? think on lads!

Defo my negativity about our luck in the transfer window mate , hopefully they are good mates ! Never mind gingers swinging at the moment , ours can't even walk !

nick1 ... as rubbish as Sunderland were last season ... i seem to remember they ended there 15 match run of not winning away from home by beating ..... er... US ... the mighty Villa. Never under estimate Roy Keane, i think they will surprise a few next season especially with the signings they had and the fact that they seem more active in the transfer market than Villa.

I'm begining to think that no one wants a move to Villa. Is it our lousy wage structure or Brum in general? Hate this anticipation. I hope we don't wait to last day of transfer window and sign bloody Lee Naylor??????

Brum's fine bellywipes, I'm convinced its our pay structure, it has to be.

We need no more departures, and at least six more quality arrivals. Extended runs in the UEFA Cup and the League Cup could knacker us before Christmas, if we dont get adequate numbers in.
