Add 2 more to that, and perhaps lose one and that is the team we will be stuck with till January. How long is O'Halloran out for?

As if NRC or anybody else hasnt gone for the number 8 shirt, its one of the best numbers. And why has Curtis still got number 15, he surely is in the starting 11, he should have number 6!

Well MON does want another CB....Mertzsacker would get the shirt if he came :P Although Carlos Cuéllar from Rangers looks good. Barry WILL go, we will be short of a known LB and a RB we still need another CB i reckon, we need a known RM and maybe a goal Finisher, I would say LB is our main problem though, Gardner and Reo Coker can fill at RB no one can fill LB, We really could do with more options in defense i mean remember in 2003 when we had like Ozalan Fehmi Alpay, Olof Mellberg, Gareth Barry, Mark Delaney, Jonathan Bewers, Steve Staunton, Lloyd J. Samuel, Ronny Johnsen, Alan Wright, Rob Edwards, Ulises De La Cruz you know we had some bloody options in 2003 just 5 years ago.

Sidwell or Shaun should be number 8 and Curtis should be number 4. UNLESS MON IS LEAVING 2,8,12,21 AND 23 FOR NEW SIGNINGS. I CAN ONLY HOPE SO.

I think 6 is more of a defenders number than 4. A lot of defensive midfielders have played in the 4 shirt...

actually aussie_villan youll be suprised to know that the number 4 shirt is actually a midfielders number 5 and 6 are CB shirts

infact (and dont quote me on this) but i am pretty sure the reason for this is that when the first clubs started using shirt numbers the main tactic was five at the back with the middle man playing just in front of the 2 CB's 2-3 on wingback roll 4 DCM pushing forward 5-6 CB, dont know why the highest 2 numbers of the 5 were further back but im almost positive this is the reason.

Hi Guys - from the way i look at it No2, 8 and 12 have been left out on purpose... So therefore if Barry goes... be it late on ... we could potentially see 3 new signings.. a defender (Nicky Shorey) in the number 2 postion, a winger (James Milner) No8 and a back up striker (No idea who) for No12 ... and then Barry's No6 shirt will be replaced in the Jan Market' On another note do we need to replace Barry .... Ive just read this article on the Telegraph site ... interesting i'm sure you will agree......???? Well, apart from Cristiano Ronaldo that is. Yes, it's Gareth Barry - six feet of pretty average footballer you might think, yet Liverpool and Aston Villa are fighting over him harder than that last size 20 blouse at Primark on a Saturday evening. So the question is “why?” He’s something of a grafter but regularly scores highly in Telegraph Fantasy Football, grabbing 142 points last time out – the joint seventh best midfielder in the game behind the likes of Ronaldo, Lampard and Fabregas... and Stewart Downing. So where do all his points come from? Barry is at the heart of everything for Aston Villa – pulling the strings from the middle of the park as well as being corner taker, free-kick taker and, crucially, penalty taker. A move to Liverpool would inevitably damage his value as a Telegraph Fantasy Football pick as the Reds already have a man who does all of this, and better – he’s called Steven Gerrard. If Barry does move on, forgotten man Stiliyan Petrov could finally emerge from the shadows and take on Barry’s mantle at Villa Park. With a TFF value of just £3.5m, the Bulgarian has a taste for spectacular goals, and is definitely one to watch. WHAT DO YOU THINK GUYS ??? I think if MON had Petrov in mind for GB replacement surely he would have given him the No6 jersey .... i still think MON thinks we will still have GB at Villa park at least till Jan.

Squad numbers dont really mean too much do they, and we certainly shouldn't read too much into them. Interesting that Barry has been allocated a squad number though.

Hope we dont lose anybody from that squad. We just need incomings now, after Barry, no more departures please.
