Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is apparently set to bid £9m swoop for Tottenham's Younes Kaboul and Reading's Nicky Shorey according to The Sun. Why mention it? Well, we have also been linked with both players, so maybe we'll also join in the fun!?
The papers are full to the brim of the Gareth Barry saga, the Daily Star says the £18million move, after Barry and his agent changed their minds from their agreement to stay on Thursday, is now in the hands of the Anfield club's much loved American owners.
The Independent say the deal should be completed this week. I truly hope so, I hope the saga is ended, I wanted him to stay but it appears he is dead set on going despite the meeting last week, so out he must go, for the right price and lets move on with players who respect Aston Villa and the fans. They say an £18m cash deal will be done, hopefully they won't play games and bid late in the window to stop Villa using that money to replace Barry.
The Telegraph say there are still obstacles to the deal. They claim we agreed a £19m deal including a player last week. The info from Villa is no bid was made last week and especially no bid 15 mins after any deadline. The paper says After three months of public wrangling, the two clubs agreed an estimated £19 million fee - involving cash and a player, believed to be Steve Finnan - last week, only for a dispute over the schedule of payments to hold the deal up once again. Barry and his agent, Alex Black, expect Liverpool to return with another offer. But Aston Villa have set the Merseyside club a rigid list of demands, while the issue has been further muddied by the prospect that Arsenal could enter the race to sign the 27-year-old.
Meanwhile The Mirror say Villa are about to 'snatch' Manchester United defender Danny Simpson from the reaches of Blackburn Rovers who were set to offer him a one-year-deal. The 21 year old has been told by Sir Alex Chewalot that he will lend him out to a Premier League team this season following time at Ipswich last season. Manchester City are also said to be interested.
