Monday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Monday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is apparently set to bid £9m swoop for Tottenham's Younes Kaboul and Reading's Nicky Shorey according to The Sun. Why mention it? Well, we have also been linked with both players, so maybe we'll also join in the fun!?

The papers are full to the brim of the Gareth Barry saga, the Daily Star says the £18million move, after Barry and his agent changed their minds from their agreement to stay on Thursday, is now in the hands of the Anfield club's much loved American owners.

The Independent say the deal should be completed this week. I truly hope so, I hope the saga is ended, I wanted him to stay but it appears he is dead set on going despite the meeting last week, so out he must go, for the right price and lets move on with players who respect Aston Villa and the fans. They say an £18m cash deal will be done, hopefully they won't play games and bid late in the window to stop Villa using that money to replace Barry.

The Telegraph say there are still obstacles to the deal. They claim we agreed a £19m deal including a player last week. The info from Villa is no bid was made last week and especially no bid 15 mins after any deadline. The paper says After three months of public wrangling, the two clubs agreed an estimated £19 million fee - involving cash and a player, believed to be Steve Finnan - last week, only for a dispute over the schedule of payments to hold the deal up once again. Barry and his agent, Alex Black, expect Liverpool to return with another offer. But Aston Villa have set the Merseyside club a rigid list of demands, while the issue has been further muddied by the prospect that Arsenal could enter the race to sign the 27-year-old.

Meanwhile The Mirror say Villa are about to 'snatch' Manchester United defender Danny Simpson from the reaches of Blackburn Rovers who were set to offer him a one-year-deal. The 21 year old has been told by Sir Alex Chewalot that he will lend him out to a Premier League team this season following time at Ipswich last season. Manchester City are also said to be interested.

We should not be linked to loan signings we are a bigger club than that! Well 2 more weeks of fustration and worrying to go...! I hope we go mental the next 2 weeks and spend a ridiculous amount of money to bring in lots and lots of shiny new players.
04/08/2008 11:44:00
Oh my god........Kaboul and Shorey off to Pompey.........if we don't get them i will be seriously P****d off. What the hell are we playing at!
04/08/2008 11:51:00
Danny Simpson..........who the hell is he.........Are we supposed to be moving forward. MON get a bloody move on!
04/08/2008 11:53:00
It is the thought of another loan deal that does my head in, if he works out it just trains him up for Utd. We are trying to break the top four, we won't do that by loaning their players!

If its 2 way race between us and pompey for a player this window we'll lose everytime. Pompey pay more wages, they have UEFA football and just won the FA cup. Plus Portsmouth has the millioanires sandbanks nearby for their overpaid players to live in. Id choose pompey over at the moment Villa and im a villa fan!

I dont have a problem being linked to loan signings, not at the this moment in time!! We need numbers on board, even if just to try and hold our own this season, and if we're not securing our top targets (whoever they are), then we have to make allowances, and loan signings DO give us that option. BUt who the hell is simpson?
04/08/2008 12:53:00
Simpson is the new Bardsley.....Enough said!!
04/08/2008 12:57:00
Barry for Arsenal = D Hope we get Shorey. Not concerned about Kaboul.
