UEFA Cup Draw

Aston Villa will play FH Hafnarfjardar of Iceland in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

The first leg is to be played at Villa Park on Thursday 14th August, with the away leg being played on Thursday 28th August.

Aston Villa had beaten Odense BK (agg 3-2) in the Intertoto Cup to secure a place in the draw.

Martin O'Neill told the official site:

"We're excited just to be in the draw first of all. We had two tough games against Odense and now we're determined to do as well as possible.

"The fans showed last weekend they have an appetite for European football and I'm sure they'll back us against FH Hafnarfjardar."

According to multiple media sources it's "a kind draw" for the Villa. Let's hope they're right; we don't want another tester a la Odense!

you lie! thats not a word! it sounds like uefa got confused with the draw for the teams and the bag of scrabble letters and that was the best word they can make.

Sound easy, with some defensive cover, don't see why progressing should be a problem.

Great draw but these Scandinavian countries are so expensive to visit especially if you like a tot! Looks like a stint of overtime then!

Brings back many happy memories of beating Valur of Iceland 6-0 over two legs, on our way to lifting the European Champions Cup back in '82.

Some very decent teams in this seasons UEFA Cup tournament. Hopefully we can stick around long enough to enjoy some long overdue european nights at B6.
