'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Davies Delight

Curtis Davies returned to competative football today in a behind closed doors friendly against Notts County.

The surprise inclusion was certainly not expected as most believed he wouldn't be back in action until October, even if his rehab had been going well over the last few months.

Speaking on the official site after completing 60 minutes of football, he said:

'I feel great. It was a good game to get 60 minutes in. I felt I could have played the full 90 but I'll take it slowly, one day at a time and see how I come through it.

'I've been looking at the new shirt for ages and just waiting to pull it on, so it was good to be back out there - albeit in a behind closed doors game.

'I felt comfortable and I didn't hold back. Hopefully now I'll get another game soon and I can start to put a bit of pressure on Martin and Zat.'

Great news! Could be one of our best players this season if he stays fit, i thought he showed signs of being a rly top class defender when he had his run in the team last season
avfchris
Great news we just need to sign him some friends to play either side of him then our defence should be complete!!! Do we know if Friedel played? I imagine so cause we kept a clean sheet lol.

great news that he's back so early!!
romanianvillain
Didn't he used to play rightback for the baggies or luton?
johnmurphy3112
i think so john, but that would mean having to play zat *****e in the middle. i'd keep davies in the middle and zat on the bench and play a 500g tub of flora proactiv instead.
bobbyfett
fantastic news!

Anyone know who scored and what the line-up was - in particular did Friedel or Barry play???
deano.avfc
Great news, formed a decent partnership with Laursen last season, will learn a thing or two from Laursen on the way as well and will be fantastic

Great to see Curtis back, top player, we're gonna need him.

It was 1-0 Villa Deano, I read somewhere that Barry was left out but that was probably just more *****e from the press.
jonah
I woudn't want him to play at right back, I would rather see him and Laursen at CB and us to sign a couple of RB's.

Great news top player when will the rest of the new players arrive
pksandell
with luck 1 tommorow and the majority withinin 2weeks :)

If ever Villa needed a player to return to the first team its Davis, people questioned his ability when he joined from WBA but its no coincidence Villas season went titz up after he was Injured at Arsenal.

I know it's off topic but anyone else find it strange we have a "BLUE" away kit? one of my best mates is a Nose and he's already started.

A remarkable recovery from Curtis Davies, from what was very obviously a particularly nasty long term injury. Having his back will be a real bonus, he was looking an inspired piece of business by MON when the injury struck at The Emirates. A fully fit Curtis, allied to the arrival of Brad Friedel, should certainly help strengthen our leaky defence.

Pair of solid, dependable full backs brought into the club now before the serious business gets underway, and our back line, for the first time in a long time, should have a really solid look about it. Hopefully new arrivals will be signed and sealed before the UEFA Cup game arrives.
