Friedel Looking Forward To Guzan Arrival

Friedel Looking Forward To Guzan Arrival

Brad Friedel may not be able to help Brad Guzan with the work permit issue, but he's looking forward to working with him.

Guzan's work permit hearing is set for Friday and Martin O'Neill is hopeful that this time the bods in charge will approve the application and allow the 23 year old to join up with us.

Speaking on the official site, Friedel said:

'It's always good to have competition in every position. I know Brad's a young goalkeeper for the future. He's 23 years of age and hopefully he can get a work permit.

'I'm going to do my best to hopefully support that bid. I don't know what help I can give him on that front as it took me five years to get my own permit to play here in England.

'But hopefully, fingers crossed, he can get it and then it will be a pleasure to work with him.'

I've seen Guzan play here in America. He's a good, young keeper. One thing Americans have managed is to produce solid keepers--something to do with being so accustomed to using our hands in sports!

I too have seen him play in the US RadioactiveD, and in honesty wasn't overly impressed with what I witnessed. Hopefully though he'll receive his permit, settle in over here, and improve with working amongst better coaches/players. The ball is in his court. He's been given an excellent opportunity, good luck to him.

If he is just as hungry in three years time as he is now, and keeps his head down, listens to the coaches, there is no reason why he cant succeed. never seen him play, only the clips on youtube, but if M'ON goes back for a player, then he must see something in him.

It will not be as easy for Guzan now as it would have been in january as look who he now has to compete with but looking at some of our past keepers I think he cant be worse than many of them no matter how bad he is.Good Luck Guzan. Hopefully the Brads will be covering the goalkeeping positions and can help us back to the top.

Guzan looks to be a great signing for us, he looks better than Carson from the little i have seen of him. Guzan will probably spend some time on loan to aclimatise, Stoke perhaps?

Anyone has to be better than Carson young_jonah. I'd welcome Evan Williams and John Phillips back, before I would Scotty C.

Yes indeed 50 years a villan. Colin Withers, 'Tiny', was one of my favourites. May have arrived from the darkside, but he did us proud. Geoff Sidebottom, John Dunn, and John Gavan, remember them all, although Gavan not so well. Remember Cammie Fraser, right full back?

It'll be great for Guzan to work alongside Friedel, and I really hope his promise and talent can really mature quickly with Friedel as his mentor.
