Villa Children, Please Behave!

Patrik Berger has had a parting shot at Martin O'Neill.

The 34-year-old former Liverpool and Portsmouth midfielder, who has returned to his home club of Sparta Prague, says that Martin O'Neill treats players like children by not talking to them face to face. This will no doubt fan the flames although now he has left, I don't suppose it particularly matters.

He was suspended from the club for talking about Gareth Barry and the possibility of moving to Liverpool,

'I don't see any reason to change my opinion - nobody can fine me now. I just said what I thought would be best for Gareth but the manager fined and suspended me from the training ground. It was the manager's decision but I was surprised because we went through my comments in the papers in his office and I went home. But the next day I got a letter to my house saying I was banned and fined - he was not even strong enough to tell me eye-to-eye.'

'Gareth got a similar letter but we are adults not children and can face it - I would prefer he'd just told me straight.'

Many will say this is just a bitter former player, but it has to be remembered that players are mates and see the treatment of others. Hopefully Martin O'Neill's near legendary man management status is more than a match for this though! :o)

Is there a point in the comments though? We all hear the positives, do we ignore the negatives as a bitter comment from an ex player?

The only reason he was with us last season was that one goal, yes it was a good one but we were terrorising them through that whole match. I hate that****, someone should do something about him, noone wants to listen to his b!tching and he's ****e anyway.

He's just telling it as it is. Just because you lot dont agree with him doesnt make him wrong, nor should he keep his mouth shut. Barry would be better off at Anfield, with better players, playing in the Champions League. That is just how it is. Berger knows that, Martin O'Neill knows that and the Villa fans know that.

he's so ungrateful, 29 games in 3 seasons and a fantastic sick pay packet. He could have at least kept his mouth shut, but then he's already proved he can't do that.

trader, if Liverpool had the money Barry would already be there, but it isn't going to happen so whats better for Barry or not, and whatever you seem to think people know, is irrelevant. As it stands I'm surprised Liverpool have got enough 's to stack the food kiosks for the half-time rush.

trader you're an idiot...he should keep his mouth shut thats what got him in trouble in the first place, Barry wouldn't be better off with the doley's playing 1 game in 3 and second fiddle to Alonso, that wouldn't help his england chances, the doley's may have some better players and be in the CL, so thats two good points how about the in-fighting at board level, how about a manager who has to check the charity tins to fund transfers, how about a club who can't afford to move stadiums 'cos no-one will lend them the money 'cos they're a bad bet, how about the manager looking over his shoulder to see who's going to stab him in the back first. Liverpool were great but not any longer, they're also rans who are going no-where.

Trader: Barry may be better off with you lot if he didn't mind warming your bench. And Gerrard would have been better off at Chelski when he had the chance. Everyone knew it was only misguided loyalty that kept him at Liverpool. But what do you imagine your manager would have done if a member of your CURRENT SQUAD had been telling him to leave the club? Think about it, chum, then go back to your own board.

Thing is if he wants to advise Barry to move on fair enough, but do you need to announce, just tell him during training or over a pint, why go public?

JohnMurphy - well said about Murderpool. I've been singing from the same hymn sheet for months now. LFC are broke and a pale shadow of the club they were in the 70's and 80's. Their fans must go to bed each night literally praying for DIC to come in and buy them. The yanks are ruining them - and its great fun to sit back and watch it happen.

I think you fall out with MON at your peril although Berger got another chance after being sent to Stoke, did his usual one decent sub appearance and then sick note time. Terrible purchase for AVFC and I don't give a damn what he thinks. I think MON is stubborn and positively old fashioned but having worked under Clough and Taylor and their management styles I guess he may upset some people at some time.

I like MON's old fashioned approach to dealing with players who act like kids and forget who's paying their wages. This bloke knows how to give people a reality check, all of a sudden they realize they're not the superstar they thought they were and their surreal materialistic bubble bursts. It's quite funny to watch. They come down to earth with quite a bump, and clearly Berger's experience of it still haunts him. On the other hand, give 100% and don't make slanderous comments about the club who pays you or the boss who knows a ****cing damn sight more than you ever will, and he'll treat you with the respect you deserve. Quite simple really.

In honesty, who gives a toss what Patrik Berger see's fit to comment upon. He did well out of AVFC, picking up no doubt sustantial remuneration, while giving back very little. Why cant he now just disappear into the wild blue yonder?

What has he done wrong?...are you thick? Do you air your dirty washing in public? Do you disrepect the people who pay you? do you wish other clubs would just come along and be happy for them to take your best players? Burger was still a villa player when he did all these things, sometimes it's better to keep your opinions to yourself especially when youre supposed to be a seasoned professional.

notaspur, you are a tit too! in any workplace including a football club, you do not suggest in the press that another workplace (club) would be more suitable and not risk the wrath of the boss. You may mention that kind of thing in ones ear but not in the press. Players today get paid loads of dosh so the least that they can do is have some respect towards the club who pay their wages and of course if that player is looking for another chance in the first team or an eye on a move, then that player should show some dignity. Berger should sell burgers at anfield with the fat spanish waiter. Both got big mouths so should raise the redscum some much needed funds.

Why has our club always fallen for these scummers fleecing old deadly, lets hope MON & Randy don't fall for anymore of these robdogs!
