Get Better Soon Wilf

Wilf, get better soon from all at Vital Villa.

The unlucky Dutch international left-back was left in agony as he dislocated his right ankle during a challenge in the match v Odense.

The players who came over to the bench looked distraught and you could clearly see from my pitch level view Wilfred Bouma's ankle at a different angle to his leg. Ouch.

The good news is that Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Bouma has dislocated his right ankle, not great but much better than a break which is what it looked like at the time.

O'Neill told www.avfc.co.uk: 'The doctor is back from the hospital and says it's a dislocation. Thankfully the skin isn't broken, which is really good news. They've re-set it and he's now in plaster. It's obviously a serious injury to a player who's been playing exceptionally well - he had a great, great season last year and he will be missed. The players are going to visit him tonight and we wish him all the very best and the injury is a big blow to us.'

Chin up Wilf, get well soon.

let's hope he's fit soon to play, he's a solid performer!

brings back bad memories of when I first joined Vital and fell down four steps dislocating my left ankle, breaking it, snapping a tendon and also breaking the little bone at the back of my leg. I'd only been doing Vital Chelsea for three days!
merlin
Yeah thank god its only a dislocation. Memories of Eduardo flooded back at the time. Best wishes Wilf, get back soon.
The Usual Suspect
Looked horrible at the time, but thankfully not a break, Get well soon!
sportyvillain

lerneravfc
i thought he'd pulled a luc nilis, that was a real nasty one
NorthcliffeBandit
I initially thought it was a Odense player as Wilf's tackle looked wreckless on the tv...my friend I was watching it with seemed to think a dislocation takes longer to heal than a clean break, which I'm not sure about??? Gutted for him. Get well soon Wilf.
olafthegreat
It's his right foot though, so not his kicking foot which is a better I suppose?
olafthegreat
Wilf's a tough cookie! From his reaction it looked more than just a bit sore :o/ Get well soon Wilf - we gonna miss you!!
godzvilla
Been there, done that. Horrible. Best wishes, Freddy for a speedy recovery, you will be missed, I just hope you are back healthy enough to wear the shirt again soon.
Madirish
As a physio it's not all good news I'm afraid. The dislocation is thankfully not compounded but even so there will, I'm sure, be a serious amount of ligamental damage.I would put a guess on it as anything between 8 and 12 wks before he's back.
happyvillan
I didn't see it, but from what I read it looked nasty. Good thing it's not a break. Wish him a speedy recovery. Merlin, you poor fella!
Fan of Blues
Looked nasty, Bouma will be missed, get well soon big fella.
steff_the_villan
Does anyone remember the other dutch player who we signed years back (striker me thinks) around the late 90's and badly broke his leg. Can't remember his name now, but he was class wasn't he! I was so sad for the guy that after a superb start he would not be able to play again. Lets hope freddy is back on his feet soon and that it is not so serious.
holte ender 1969
nilis was belgian but can't think who else u might mean. get well soon freddy

JOHN.CAREWS.CREW
ric112, your so right. It must be my early altziemers (sp?). Luc Nilis was a class act and we never got to have the best of him.
holte ender 1969
All the best Wilf with your recovery, just think of the big cheers on your return as you are loved at the Villa.
ASPINALL

johnmurphy3112
Fear thanks for that picture, looks terrible, poor bloke
krisvilla
Get well soon, Wilf. From where I was in the Holte, I couldn't see much of the injury, but it looked bad from how the other players reacted.
SuperTommyJohnson
It may sound funny but it looks better on that pic than on the telly, initially I worried for his career he is 30 after all. Hopefully the dislocation means he will back sooner rather than later. Get well soon Freddie!
Tez86
A terrible personal set-back for Freddie, and a huge blow to the club. Mr Consistency last season, he wont easily be replaced. Speedy recovery Freddie.
glensider
I was by the doug out and could hear him scream, it was horrible, I'm really glad it's not as bad as we first thought!
farmer_dan

randy.stand
I saw the pics in the paper an intially didn't think it looked that back, but after a while I actually saw what had happened. Nasty stuff .... I hope Wilf has a quick recovery and is back on the pitch kicking some Chelsea players double time!!
