So When Will Villa Make Their Signings?

Martin O'Neill has again been peppered with questions about the transfer window and whilst refusing to be drawn on individual players like the Brad Friedel link, he did tell the official site:

'We're in the throes of trying to improve our team and we need to. But I'd prefer to stay rather general on these points and not comment on all the reports and speculation.'

Adding, 'There are things that we want to do and we've got a couple of weeks to try and improve the team - actually we've got to the end of August - but ideally it would be great if the season was kicking-off and we had a number of players in position. We are working as hard as we possibly can do behind the scenes to improve our squad, which we need to, and that hard work will continue.'

Our latest poll, suggested by pksandell asks when you think Villa will make most of their signings!

How many UEFA cup games would we need to win before enetring the group stages? There's a few tough teams in it this year, drawing one of them could easily happen.
I'm gonna go all out and let you know that 3 players will arive by 30th.
I aint holding my breath. I think all these comments are just re-hashed from what he said last summer and we all know what happened (didn't happen?) then.
Son_of_Cher, we wont get a big team as we will be one of the top seeds.
The poll is very optimistic in not giving an option for not making any signings.
Refering to an article written a couple of weeks back concerning transfer window stress. I got it bad. Today I'm fairly relaxed yesterday I was miserable and the day before that I was a wreck. So with that in mind, today I would estimate 3/4 signings but not before saturday. Yesterday I'd have said 1 but that would be a deadline day signing of no real meaning and the day before that I'd have said ''for ***** sake get some ******* ******* players in before ******* friday or we're rowing up **** creek without a ******* ******* paddle.'' Anyone else feel this way?
Mister Mick
which way Mick, you gave us a choice?
Son of Cher we are seeded and our uefa coefficient is 24.966. I won't pretend to understand this but it seems relatively high. Most of the unseeded teams are below 8. WHEN we win on saturday we go into the second qualifying round. After that there is just one proper round before the group stages. Its at the first round proper were the losers of the champions league 3rd qualifying round join. I think thats were it could go a bit pear shaped. See, simple really.
Son of Cher we will go into UEFA in the 2nd qualifying round if we get through that we go into the 1st where everyone who doesnt need to qualify will join, this includes spurs pompy and man city. After the 1st round then its the group games.
Sorry thats Everton not Man City as they have to qualify just like us.
I am hoping that some of MONs transfer targets are just waiting to see us qualify for UEFA before committing themselves. Please!
Its obviously - After the start of the season! afterall he will buy 1 player a window for 7 years...
So two more 2 leg games if/when we beat Odense to get into the group stage....Not too bad then. Thats an extra 6 games we've already played though. With a decent league cup run (and no doubt a replay or 2) our players will be *****ed by Christmas.
I dont like how MON says this "it would be great if the season was kicking-off and we had a number of players in position" kind of sounds like his is not in complete control and that we may be starting a second season in a row without a right back!!!
My sister text me today to tell me her boyfriend was at a charity golf event and MON was there. Playing golf. For charity. Today. How is that "in the throes"? This guy needs to stop *****ing about
MON is due some time off, I get the impression he's one who always on his game. We have over a month to go in the window, so let's see. The inertoto is a sideshow.
Obviously, I'm sure he's trying very hard in all of this transfer business but golf? Thats just taking the ***** charity or no.
So if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League, we COULD potentially play them in the UEFA qualifiers? Or would we be seeded? That seems seriously unfair, how can a club that's failed to qualify for the CL automatically qualify for the UEFA qualifiers?!?! FFSAKE! Yet it doesn't work the other way, ie; if you win the UEFA Cup you don't qualify for the CL. Was this Sepp Blatter's idea by any chance?
Players are for ever whinging about how many games they why playing more games because of being in Europe sway a player to come.......strange that!!!!!!
Martin has it all under control. Have no fears, have faith brothers. The Fairy Glen remain convinced. All Hail MON. Remember chaps. Positives attract. Keep positive, encouraging positive vibes, and we will attract new faces by the barrow-load.
Never heard you be that positive before glensider ! :O
7. yeah seven Wendy, i said seven.
MON,you are taking the p1s5 !! Talk is cheap baby !!!
Umm you dont have "NEVER" as an option. Or "Another Routledge-esque signing" ...sorry, beinbg negative is somewhat therapeutic during the transfer window
Routledge is still a young player he will prove to be a coup mark my words,As for signings we have already signed three quality players and if guzan gets his permit thats 4 players with other transfers in process, more than our closet rivals everton might i add,People talk as if we have not signed anyone. If you are waiting for a famous name for silly money forget it o`neill buys hungry players who with a team ethic just like cloughie did. Some fans on here need to grow up and have think about the big picture.
