Thursday's Press Talk For Aston Villa

Thursday's Press Talk For Aston Villa

The paper talk for today is a bit sparce.

The Sun say that the move for Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel is dependent on Paul Robinson moving to Ewood Park.

The Times say that the Spurs keeper is close to a move to Rovers though so the goalkeeper merry-go-round can start! They say the deal for the former England No1 should be done by the weekend. The Daily Mail cover the same angle and also say that the bid for Brad Guzan has been delayed by the work permit application process.

The Daily Express have the obligatory Liverpool v Aston Villa Gareth Barry saga article, and claim the clubs remain at 'loggerheads' as Villa still want £18million cash.

The Sun wade in saying that it has been made clear to Barry that it isn't too late for him to be welcomed back into the club if the deal with Liverpool, or indeed Arsenal I guess, doesn't go through. However the Red Top says 'he will have to offer a grovelling apology to boss Martin O'Neill to put himself back in favour with the majority of Villa fans.'

The Mirror quote Steven Gerrard's cousin, no seriously...! The Walsall defender said as a Liverpool fan he thinks Barry would be a good buy and said Barry was 'a class above against us' during the pre-season friendly between Villa and Walsall.

The press are also talking about the Shaun Wright-Phillips and Younes Kaboul links mentioned in our round up yesterday.

Wow. No new links! We haven't been linked with one of the other three keepers left in the world that we haven't been linked with yet! Wonders never cease. On a serious note, I hope the Friedel signing and Guzan work permit issues are cleared up sooner rather than later, knowing that things are done and dusted is good.

Qulaity Barry statement for MON on Gaz Baz. Liverpool don't have the cash and need to sell more players. They must have offered lower than the 15m proported, I think we would have accepted that.

I saw a mention that MON will look at SWP NEXT WEEK! Why not this week? Is there no urgency or drive in all this? Surely the sooner the team is done and dusted the sooner they can begin the gel and form a cohesive unit, whether GB is still with us or not. And, as I keep saying where are our new RB's?

obediah, think its because chelsea are in China on an east asian tour. I presume SWP is with them. As for the class above quote. For christ sake they are 2 divisions beneath all. The whole bloody team have been a class above them! Good statement from MON as well. He's playing it brilliantly and I hope Barry plays saturday.

Surely theres an element of waiting (and hoping) until after the weekend when (again, hopefully) we'll be in the UEFA cup, hence being able to offer European football to potential targets..

The speculation is becoming more and more sparce because they've ran out of people to link us to. It would be easier to make a list of the players we've NOT been linked to. ie; Father Christmas, Pele, the Pope, Bill Clinton and James Brown (only because he's dead). HOLD ON, no sorry correction, goal.com have just linked us to the Pope and the Vatican could be willing to sell at the right price.

Hmmm, the pope could certainly do a job in goal dealing with any crosses......sorry.

Would it really work, having a Christian leader playing for the Lions? :o)

does everyone think that MON is sitting back with a pipe and slippers waiting for players to come to him? Of coure there's an urgency its his job the only frustrating thing for us fans is that Villa dont talk about transfers at all. Have you seen any quotes from MON before transfers are all but sealed? Unlike Harry Redknapp who feels its appropriate to tell anyone who will listen about his targets by claiming he "likes the lad and were hoping to do something" at least 3 times a day. Unfortunatley we dont do business like that so were left to go mad but thats the way it is. On another note all our closest rivals last year have bought nobody to note....its not just us.
