Blackburn To Lose Friedel

Blackburn have accepted an offer believed to be around £2 million from Villa for goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

It seems the educated guesses on why Martin O'Neill turned up late to the Walsall friendly may have been correct, with whispers saying he was meeting the American goalkeeper at Bodymoor Heath during the first half.

But this news will come as a shock to Blackburn fans who were under the impression the experienced Friedel (how else do you describe a 37 year old) would not be allowed to leave until a suitable replacement was found.

This puts the speculation linking Paul Robinson with us to bed, but opens the door for the former England No 1 to join Blackburn as the replacement.

There's no doubts who gets the better goalkeeper here in my mind, the age is an issue BUT with Guzan likely to be coming in, Friedel will serve as an excellent tutor for the other American goalkeeper.

The deal is believed to be £2 million upfront with a further £500,000 to be paid based on appearances.

The Blackburn Rovers OS states that a bid has been accepted but Villa aren't mentioned (not saying it isn't us) but then goes on to say, "The transfer is conditional on Rovers having a bid for a goalkeeper at another club accepted."

Despite being him being 52 I think this is a good capture for us. He's an experienced GK who will definately control his area, something all of our recent GKs didn't do. If he tutors Guzan into the Premiership fold aswell alls good, not many better people out there to teach you the ropes. One down, seven more signings to go :)

im happy enough with this, who knows a right back next. but seriously i do trust martin but i can get a little frustrating, it is nice to have a manager with the clubs best interests at heart and i understand his transfer policy...i think its just hard when i check about 10 times a day to see if we have signed anyone, makes for a long day.

Finally some good news in the transfer market. Agree with Mayo_12 Friedel "will definately control his area, something all of our recent GKs didn't do". Was watching the season review dvd and cant help thinking Carson should have done better on a lot more goals than i remembered. UTV
