Season Tickets Soar

Season Ticket sales for the coming season are up 7% on this time last year. The Villa faithful, despite transfer concerns, are voting with their bums!

After an extraordinary season last campaign, and consistently high gates, the club were confident that fans would respond when it came to season tickets this year, but I doubt even the club predicted a seven per cent increase.

Last season saw crowd figures at their highest point in more than half a century, and we seem likely to break that record again in the coming season.

The average for 2007-08 was 40,375, the best since 1949-50. It was also the third highest ever, bettered only by 47,168 in 1949-50 and 41,956 in 1937-38.

This season we have already sold upto a whopping 25,000 tickets and Head of Consumer Sales Nicky Keye has been absolutely delighted with the take up.

'Fans have certainly responded to the feel-good factor at the club by snapping up a tremendous amount of season tickets for the coming campaign. We are absolutely delighted the fans recognise the tremendous value for money an Aston Villa season ticket provides.'

Fans are also responding to the hope that we can equal or better our achievement in the league last season, it's a big jump both in number and upfront revenue for the club. Some good signings now could hike it even further.

You lot need a bigger Villa Park. 50,000 would sell out a few times this coming season. No reason why you cant grow to need a 60,000 stadium if you can make it into the big 4. Speaking to several younger (in their 20's) Villa fans and they do not realise how big the club is after growing up on ****e.

Hearing about all these people able to get season tickets really makes me jealous. I can practically see VP from where I work, but due to that work being retail I work every Saturday, and most other days too really. It's all good though, VP is on it's way to being a fortress once again, and the 12th man is a big help in making it an intimidating place to visit. High five fellow Villans.

High five back at ya Mayo. I'm actually a little surprised at the 7% increase, given the lack of transfer activity. Although had we already signed 5/6 quality players, the figure would probably be up by 70% !

Villa in Cyprus how very right you are, am I right in thinking its only now the remaining tickets have gone on sale to the public?

I would guess that they are already on sale to the general public if there has been an increase as if only previous ticket holders could get them we would have sold the same amount at best!

I do remember the club hyping this up about 2 months ago, saying that if you want a season ticket you'll have to get in early as they're having to introduce a 'waiting list' due to such high demand. Am I the only one who thought this was marketing scam? This may explain the extra 7%, seems it partially worked?

This is indeed good news to read, because there were a lot of rumours doing the rounds suggesting that season ticket sales were in fact down compared to the numbers achieved in the summer of 2007. Its good to hear 'officially' from the club, that that is indeed not the case.

It probably works out at about an extra 500 season tickets. Not really earth moving.
