Ashley Young is at it again, last season all he would talk about was getting into Europe - now he's started on the Top 4 speeches!

The flying winger believes we have a great chance of ousting Liverplop in 4th place if we can have a 'slick start' to the season.

Speaking on the official site, Young said:

'This really could be the year we break into the top four!

'We came sixth last season and the next step is to finish in the Champions League places.

It's a big challenge but I'm really looking forward to it.

'We surprised a few people last season by beating Chelsea and drawing with Arsenal and Liverpool and we can do it again. That's essential if we want a top four finish.

'It's really important for us to start the season well - we need to if we want to challenge the top four.

'If you lose a few games, confidence can drop and you could end up slipping down the table.

'Pre-season has been good. The coaches are some of the best I've worked with. We've had a good run of pre-season games, which helps get our fitness up after the summer break and makes sure we're ready for the new campaign.'

It's up to him and the rest of the lads to make it happen now then. If O'Neill pulls his finger out and gets his pen on the chequebook for the right players I really do think the top 4 is a realistic target, albeit being in other competitions may make it more difficult with substansially higher amount of games we could play - and that again brings us back to squad size and signings. Up the Villa!

From 16th to 6th in two seasons was the relatively easy part. Improving on sixth, and seriously challenging for fifth spot let alone top four, is a big ask. Serious money will have to be spent, and I'm not convinced we as a club are prepared to do that.

I sadly have to agree Glensider, MON is not going to splash out and bring in the players we need its far more risky then improving steadily. I can see many years or 'oh so nearly' coming up as we continue to push.

We will go no where near CL status unless some serious money is spent on at least another six top class players. With at least four positions in the team seriuosly under strength it is only a pipe dream. Sadly, like glensider, I am not convinced the club will spend on the necessary additions to make it all possible.

No way, we're a while behind Everton let alone Liverpool. Still I'd love to see them take Liverpool off the spot.

We have to be honest......we are light years away from the top 4. We need to be noticed by winning major cup trophies on a more regular basis and then some 'Big Name' players might actually want to put pen to paper!!!!!!!
