The Daily Mirror have reported that Aston Villa are looking to 'hijack' Younes Kaboul's £5m transfer to Sunderland. I'm not totally sure that move was ever on as his agent said the defender wasn't interested, but we did report yesterday that Harry Redknapp said Kaboul was on his way to Villa! (Yesterdays transfer rumour round up we said: Setanta.com have an article on Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. Harry Redknapp is a potential suitor but the Pompey boss things that we will beat them to the punch. Roy Keane at Sunderland has had a bid accepted by Kaboul's agent told setantasports.com that the player would not join Sunderland 'even if there was an earthquake'. Redknapp told the Portsmouth News 'I would like a centre-half. Younes Kaboul wants to come here, but I heard Kaboul is going to Villa. I don't think there is anything he can do about it. If Villa are in for him he may have to go there. We made an offer with what we thought was a fair valuation but if we want some players in we also need to sell a few.' Eh?! Me no understand. That said, me no really care either!) The Mirror claim that Kaboul is available at around £5million and has asked for more time to consider a switch to Sunderland.
The Sun this morning claim that Villa are back in for Chelsea and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and the Red Top says we have jumped to the front of the queue for the 26-year-old also linked with an £8million move to Portsmouth who have apparently cooled their interest.
Some rumours flying around are suggesting Martin O'Neill was late to the Walsall game yesterday having spent much of the day with Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel. This could just be Chinese whispers it has to be pointed out.
The Express and Star report that Villa are after Portsmouth full-back Noe Paramot with Hull also chasing the player.
The E&S also say that Villa are set to bid for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo.
And that appears to be all the links today. What do you think, Shaun Wright-Phillips do you? Would you be happy with Kaboul? Both would be keen to make their mark I'd think? Surely SWP can't keep his England place if he continually spends so much time on the bench? And just who was Hong Kong Fu? Surely not the mild mannered janitor?
