Wednesday's Villa Press Talk On Transfers

Wednesday's Villa Press Talk On Transfers

The Daily Mirror have reported that Aston Villa are looking to 'hijack' Younes Kaboul's £5m transfer to Sunderland. I'm not totally sure that move was ever on as his agent said the defender wasn't interested, but we did report yesterday that Harry Redknapp said Kaboul was on his way to Villa! (Yesterdays transfer rumour round up we said: Setanta.com have an article on Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. Harry Redknapp is a potential suitor but the Pompey boss things that we will beat them to the punch. Roy Keane at Sunderland has had a bid accepted by Kaboul's agent told setantasports.com that the player would not join Sunderland 'even if there was an earthquake'. Redknapp told the Portsmouth News 'I would like a centre-half. Younes Kaboul wants to come here, but I heard Kaboul is going to Villa. I don't think there is anything he can do about it. If Villa are in for him he may have to go there. We made an offer with what we thought was a fair valuation but if we want some players in we also need to sell a few.' Eh?! Me no understand. That said, me no really care either!) The Mirror claim that Kaboul is available at around £5million and has asked for more time to consider a switch to Sunderland.

The Sun this morning claim that Villa are back in for Chelsea and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and the Red Top says we have jumped to the front of the queue for the 26-year-old also linked with an £8million move to Portsmouth who have apparently cooled their interest.

Some rumours flying around are suggesting Martin O'Neill was late to the Walsall game yesterday having spent much of the day with Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel. This could just be Chinese whispers it has to be pointed out.

The Express and Star report that Villa are after Portsmouth full-back Noe Paramot with Hull also chasing the player.

The E&S also say that Villa are set to bid for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo.

And that appears to be all the links today. What do you think, Shaun Wright-Phillips do you? Would you be happy with Kaboul? Both would be keen to make their mark I'd think? Surely SWP can't keep his England place if he continually spends so much time on the bench? And just who was Hong Kong Fu? Surely not the mild mannered janitor?

I havent got a clue who the last two players mentioned are, but I'd be happy with SWP, he has much to prove to the new England manager and would be well up for it after his lack of appearances over the past couple of seasons. Kaboul? Well, he'd be ok, better than nothing!!

Noe Parawho? Is he a Right-Back? Sign him up! As for SWP, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him still at Chelsea next year. A guy that says he's happy to stay and fight for his place in a team he must surely know he's not going to get into for over two years stinks to me of someone who doesn't care as long as he's getting his megabucks wages. I hope I'm wrong, of course, evryone knows he's a good player. I stand by what I've been saying though, I'm all in for Milner, hope to see him back at VP.

I'd be happy with SWP, but not kaboul, romanianvillian has written 'Kaboul? Well, he'd be ok, better than nothing!!' Is this where we are at, because there has been such little transfer action we are now prepared to accept average players just to fill out a thread bare squad. For me its getting to the stage where we are like a sunday pub team turning up and wondering whether we'll have 11 players or not!!

I think what romanianvillain meant to say is 'Kaboul? Well he'd be OK, better than Knight!!'

Oh well the SWP link had to come around again I suppose. We've had it for the last 2 years at least - feels more like 22. Can someone wake me when we get a signing please or when we are linked to player we haven't been going to sign since he was 12 or someone from the reserves of one of our opponents? There seems to be a lack of imagination at the moment both in terms of links and signings. Re-sign Brian Godfrey and Brian Greenhalgh anyone?

I am so bored and disillusioned with transfers at the moment. I absolutely hate hate hate that there is a window. It terrorises us fans, managers alike. I think the only people who benefit from this are...... well i can't think of anyone.

Johnnyuk, it's the agents that bennifit, due to over-inflated transfer fees caused by the need to deal within a deadline. Just imagine how agent commisions have increased over the years, I'll wager that as a percentage it's far more than even most players wages.

SWP I'd take (cover for the Rout!), not so sure about Kaboul, think he has a dodgy temperament and is a bit of a mercenary. As for the mild mannered janitor, if he can play right back i'd have him too. And if that doesn't pan out then he can give Hercules a run for his money as club mascot. Actually thats got me thinking, if redscouse can't come up with the £18m do you think the Hercules costume would fit Barry?
