Villa Giant Striker Bid No Go Oh No!

Martin O'Neill has blasted reports in the press that Villa have bid 5million for Valencia's giant striker Nikola Zigic are totally wide of the mark.

In an unusual step, to help quell the rumour, he said:

'There's not a grain of truth in the story that we've put in an offer for the player and I don't know where it's coming from. I don't even know who the player's agent is. I wouldn't normally comment but there have been so many stories claiming this as fact and people have been quoted. They're completely wide of the mark. So I felt I had to put the record straight.'

So there you go then!

Come on Martin, who are we after!!!!? ;o)

Man I liked this rumour if for nothing but for my Pro Evo team having set piece threat, im fully expecting to see Emile Heskey walk through the doors at a press conference soon with James Milner and Titus Bramble Another depressing Transfer Window

Not sure Stig although it did worry me when the Villa rang me the other day to ask me how bad my legs really were and what size boots I wear! (If a joke is worth telling it is worth telling 20 times !)

Thats a relief!!! I thought we were trying to sign someone then, I am glad MON has come out and confirmed we have no bid for anyone. - I read between the lines.

Its good that he does confirm certain players who he is noti interested in, but would be even better if he can tell us what players he is bidding on. He definately isnt as open as the rest of the Premiership managers!

I dont blame O'neil for not publically announcing which players we are trying to sign as to alert our rivals and push the price up, however like most I'm extremely worried about the lack of movement so far. With the smallest squad in the prem and making constant reference to it last year O'neil is only 2 aware of the urgency to get players in quickly, not to mention our early season due to intertoto. I think we'll get Finnan at RB as part of Barry deal but that well and truely doesnt excite me. We need a few class players in quick, not over 30's or players that arent ready for a 2 or 3 seasons (Guzan). Im glad this rumour isnt true then Nick if hes awful, I think with Harewood & Carew we need a fast small Gabby style striker replacement, perhaps dare I say it Andy Johnson wud be the ideal man. Not that I'd want that **** down the villa!

Maybe MON has bid for SOOOO many players its easier for him to list the ones he hasnt bid for...

seriously though why does mon keep coming out and denying bids and saying were no longer interested in this player when he never usually talks about transfers? its so frustrating we have a manager who doesnt talk about transfers(only to deny them) and a reclouse of a chairman (no offence) whos giving us encouraging news at the club about whats going to happen?

Well, so another player we are not going to buy. Wouldn't it be wonderful to hear of one we are going to buy, or better still, have bought. Regardless there is still no RB on the horizon, surely MON is not going to try it again this season with no right sided players except Routledge

totally agree avfcmike101, my comment at the end of the article was tongue in cheek, he couldn't say even if he wanted to as that would lead to being reported for tapping up!!

I actually like MON coming out with the statements denying some of the firmer reports, at least it ends the speculation. He can't really win either way though!

MON is too bloody honest. All he has to do is tell his squad that the story is rubbish to save upsetting them. Why tell the world. Now every time that he doesn't deny a link it will be considered to be true. The bloke is too nice and not made for this wheeling and dealing business.

Just a quick reference to something said by avfcmike..."not over 30s and players that aren't ready for 2 or 3 seasons (Guzan)"...This whole Guzan thing has made me laugh numerous times with reports that Friedel will be coming in to get him up to speed with the English game. WHAT SPEED? He's a frickin' KEEPER! It's simple - when the ball heads for goal, you stop it.

MON strikes me as a methodical person and I'm thinking that he's actually lined up a list of players that will want to play for us if we qualify for the UEFA Cup and ones that will come if we're not in it. Sunday morning - he'll be on the dog and bone and by the end of next week - 8 new players will be here! Sadly - I woke up at that point.

Always thought that this link was a strange one. Another striker is needed definitely, but not another target man. We need someone to feed off JC, the flick on's and knock downs.

40 days or so remaining in the summer transfer window. Definitely shaping up for another case of same old, same old. Worrying.
