'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Tuesday's Press Talk And Transfer Rumours

The Sun are reporting yesterdays internet story, that Aston Villa have bid 5million 6ft 7in Valencia striker Nicola Zigic. The price is an amazing loss if true as they paid 16m for him last year. The red top quotes Juan Sanchez, who they call 'Valencia bigwig' which is an interesting title to say the least (!), as saying: 'Zigic and his agent know about Villa's offer and we expect a decision in the coming days.' The Daily Mail also cover the story for the 27-year-old giant striker who apparently turned down a loan move to Portsmouth last season.

The Daily Mirror claim that Villa are looking to sign Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel for 2m (other reports say 2.5m) as a stop gap so we can go back for Wolves shot stopper Wayne Hennessey next year. Also reported on Vital Wolves Click Here The paper says that Wolves won't sell him this season as they look to push for the Premiership but that MON will return if Wolves fail to come up this time around.

According to the Daily Star Kevin Keegan and the Newcastle board are at loggerheads over James Milner. The paper claim the board are willing to sell the winger for 10million, but Keegan has made it clear that the former England U21 midfielder is in his plans. Trouble at t'mill? The Times say that Liverpool are set to bid for Milner.

The Independent are covering the story we reported yesterday that Blackburn would sell David Bentley but only at the 'right price' which is reportedly around 18million, which is fair enough when you think we have the same price tag on the head of Gareth Barry! Bentley Wanted By 21% & Would Cost A Packet! have an article on Spurs defender Younes Kaboul. Harry Redknapp is a potential suitor but the Pompey boss things that we will beat them to the punch. Roy Keane at Sunderland has had a bid accepted by Kaboul's agent told that the player would not join Sunderland 'even if there was an earthquake'. Redknapp told the Portsmouth News 'I would like a centre-half. Younes Kaboul wants to come here, but I heard Kaboul is going to Villa. I don't think there is anything he can do about it. If Villa are in for him he may have to go there. We made an offer with what we thought was a fair valuation but if we want some players in we also need to sell a few.' Eh?! Me no understand. That said, me no really care either!

The Daily Mail carry an article today saying that Villa's 10 million signing Curtis Davies is expected back earlier than first thought from his ruptured Achilles injury. O'Neill said: 'He's doing remarkably well and has actually been training with us,' said O' Neill. 'We thought it would take a bit of time so it's a surprise for us and a credit to him and the medical staff who have looked after him brilliantly.'

Other links today according to the gossip page of the official site are Man Utd's Danny Simpson, a story which emerged yesterday and claimed a potential loan deal and also a repeat of the link to West Ham's Robert Green.

Kaboul was touted as the best young French defender before joining Spurs. Looked a bit dodgy at times though and seems injury prone so meets the criteria for our back up centre backs.

spurs have a habit of buying young and failing to get the best out of these players. i think the lads got a lot of potential

Sounds like the criteria for our starting eleven! It's interesting that Harry should say that, as didn't he confirm someone else was coming to Villa a couple of seasons back and then it happened?

Friedel, Milner and Zigic this week would make me a very heppy Mayo, but I wouldn't like to put 50p on it happening that quick. As I've said elsewhere, I think Saturday could be the light switch to our transfer activity. As for Kaboul, the only reason I'd want him would be to kick him in the shin (hard) for scoring that f%&king equaliser at White Hart Lane.

I rate the guy, I have to say. Plus what with Zat sometimes deciding to play with his eyes closed, I think he'd be a welcome bolster to what has been a shakey back line. Ps hurry the ***** up Curtis...

I would prefer other spurs players namely Bent, Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque.

Ha no but I am jealous that they are bidding and already meeting players that I think we should be after.

zigic - what the hell was that all about. Total nonsense. I think it shows no one knows what's going on at our club with respect to transfers.

todays wayne hennessey link is probably rubbish too. I was wondering why we're after another young goalkeeper?

i was interested to see the headline 'MON on Zigic reports' on the official site, hoping it was him confirming that he had put a bid in or something. not surprised at all to see him dismissing it. it seems all he does is dismiss links and moan about things. zigic looked quality and the prospect of carew-zigic front line would have been the most powerful front two in the history of the world.

that seems a bit harsh. Its hardley fair to criticise him for a link to a player he hasn't even been following. He may indeed have made a good strike partner for Carew for 5m. But considering they paid something like 16m for him I think the price may have been made too. Just to highlight that they have a player for sale. And some mugs fall for it.

11m loss - no way. That's why Pompey wanted him on loan before they bought Rodney Trotter

well its a moot point now anyway i guess, but wasn't it a valencia bigshot himself that was propagating the 5m pricetag? i agree it's harsh to criticise him for that, but my point is i wish he'd spend more time talking about things that weren't just hearsay.

The fact that a lot of articles on the Zigic transfer actually have quotes from someone from Valencia confirming a bid made it quite an easy one to believe I think. Good to have it cleared up rather than expect him and not having him turn up.

I really can't see the point of all this speculation. The press know the weak points in our team (GK, CB, RB, RM) and thus are linking us with every possibility. 99.9% of it is all b*llocks and the 0.1% which is accurate probably wasn't known to be accurate when it was published. Just lucky guesses. Although don't get me wrong, for all my ranting i still read ALL of it. VERY frustrated with this window so far. A few ppl have said they think that getting through the Intertoto will mean that MON will have a better chance of getting who he wants. I hope that's right or we are in deep poop. Personally I don't think it should stop us from strenghtening our team. Perhaps one or 2 bigger players are waiting till we qualify but every signing can be waiting for that. Something at our club is not right......... including a full back

Thought the Nicola Zigic link was a little bit strange. With Big JC and MH here, you had to ask yourself why? Admittedly we need another striker, but not another big target man. We need someone to feed off the flick ons and knock downs that John Carew can provide. Forty odd days left in the window. Lot of work to be done in that ever dininishing time Martin.

The Milner link refuses to go away. Lets get this guy back onboard. He's the ideal man for the wide right position. If it takes 10m to secure his services, then lets go for it.
