'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Monday's Aston Villa Transfer Press Talk

The Sunday Sun claim that former Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen might be able to stay in the Premiership afterall with Middlesbrough apparently looking to make a move for the free agent. We need a goalie, wonder if we could sign him up!!

The People say Villa will step up their bid to sign Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel this week with Rovers apparently close to agreeing a move for Spurs keeper Paul Robinsonb>.

Whilst talking about keepers, Setanta say that reports in Spain have Villa down as making an offer for 24-year-old Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo. Valencia have also been linked.

The Daily Telegraph say that Villa could be back in for Newcastle winger James Milner after setting aside their bid for Blackburn midfielder David Bentley. Kevin Keegan had said not long back that Milner was in his plans and wasn't for sale.

Tribal are claiming that Villa are after young Manchester United right-back Danny Simpson who spent last season on loan at Ipswich. They claim, and it is the second time I've heard this so there could be a grain of truth maybe, that we'd be taking him on loan. Baffling.

And that appears to be that for today's transfer gossip, all pretty quiet on the Western front basically!

Rubbish isnt it we were poor on Saturday and I was hopin it would give MON a much needed kick up the arse. Letes hope there is a lot more going on then what the papers are reporting, we need numbers and quality...FAST!

Hopefully the papers are just speculating and rehashing stories because they don't really have an inkling who we're in for, as MON is keeping his cards so very close to his chest. I just hope that he comes up trumps, and soon, with regards to players coming in.

I've all but given up any interest in reading the media speculation linking us with this player and that. I've resigned myself to the fact that if anythings going to happen then it will happen, and no doubt not involve any of the hundred plus players we have already been linked with this summer. If nothing else, I think that we've all learned that there's no hurrying MON. He'll do things in his own good time, or not at all.

Agree with you 100% Jonathan. Lets make a double swoop this week for Thomas Sorensen and Eric Djemba-Djemba. The latter, judging by his performance on Saturday evening, has more to offer than any of the midfielders currently at Villa Park. If JPA is still rattling in the goals for the New York Red Bulls, lets bring him back as well.

Same old strories in the paper!

I'm sick of having to loan players!! It normally means that when you play the likes of Chelsea, Manure and Liverpool you're fielding a weakened team because they're not eligible to play. NO MORE LOANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen glensider, you just put my thoughts to words in near-perfect precision. The media can link us to however many players they want but their speculation-to-signings ratio must be pretty poor...wish my work conversion rates could be so low. How many player links are we up to now, about 120? It's ridiculous. We all know MON isn't going to rush into anything. And on Djemba-Djemba, over the top ball on the outside of his left boot on Saturday, I was nearly crying with laughter at how good a ball it was! How much did we get for him? Looks like £17m to me :)
