Sunday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Sunday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

The rumours continue and the Barry saga remains top of the agenda!

According to the News of the World Gareth Barry's 'dream' move to Liverpool could be left in tatters as Liverpool need to sell Xabi Alonso first and he has said he wants to stay at Anfield, which will please the supporters if not the manager as I've seen many of them saying they'd prefer him to stay than them buy Barry!

However The Times say Liverpool will make one final bid, their fifth, this week in a take it or leave it £16million cash offer. I think I'd take it to be honest! Barry has no future at Villa now he has made it clear he doesn't want to play here anymore!

According to the press Arsenal are also watching what is going on and Wenger has hinted he has 'one' player in his sights after a few sales recently. The Times say 'It is believed that Barry would jump at the prospect of a switch to the London club.'

If Liverpool don't get Barry they'll go for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing according to the News of the World, a player also linked with us at stages through this summer.

The Sunday Express are repeating the link to Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson who is stalling over a signing a new contract. Everton and Liverpool are also linked.

Another one in the News of the World and another repeat. Robert Green is apparently interesting Villa as the keeper isn't happy with his current contract at West Ham.

It is the NofW day today! They say that we've bid £5million for for 6'7' giant Serb striker Nikola Zigic. Valencia have apparently confirmed they have received a bid from an English club. Well, there you are then, proof indeed! Sporting director Juan Sanchez said: 'The player and his agent know about the offer and we expect them to make a decision in the coming days.' He is also linked to Fulham, Manchester City and Bolton.

According to Vital Wigan: Paul Scharner is being linked today with a move to Aston Villa as Martin O Neill looks to replace Olof Melberg. They say, 'Scharner was a revaltion when moved into the back four last season and rightly won last season's fans player of the season vote.'

I worry for Fears finances during the transfer windows. Buying all these papers must but a hell of a strain on his household budget, plus the paper boy hates him all these papers and no tip at Christmas!!!!

Zigic will go to fulham. From comments made last match it seems like weve got Friedel, so the Green rumor is tat I would like Scharner, always looks good when Iv seen him play.

Good points sdler82, think Fulham would be more likely and I thought the same about Green although he is a lot younger than Friedel but then Friedel is maybe a stop gap whilst they asses Guzan?

Skeggy, that is a lie, I gave him a tip Christmas 1987, I expect the 50p to be more than enough ad infinitum.

Paul Scharner is a beaut...would love to see him play for us. That Zigic chap looks ok, possibly a bit Ibrahimovicy which would be good. Martin does seem to love his monsters up front, but would be good to put some more pressure on complacent, lazy Gabby...

Not too sure about Zigic, never seen him play but do Villa need another target man? Agree with olafthegreat - Gabby needs some pressure on him otherwise he will take his place within the team for granted. I would have thought some one like Bent would have been in for shout, pacey clinical striker is what is needed to put the pressure on Gabby.

In regards to the Barry saga - £16million - i think M'ON may accept if they do offer that! He made it clear he wants to go to Liverpool in the meeting he had with M'ON, and M'ON has mentioned on several occasions he will not stand in the way of unhappy players. £16million seems like a good price as well, can help his budget significantly. Wonder if Finnan will be thrown in with the offer? With Degan and Arbeloa at the club, and Carragher also an option for RB, maybe Finnan would welcome the move and Rafa may want to get rid.

Lets stop buying papers and watching SSN and this should prevent us from working ourselves up.........signings will be made.........be patient........buying crap players just for the sake of it isn't the answer......quality is paramount!!!!!!!!

Bent 9m, Milner 7m, Shorey 4m, Green 5m - all very buyable for Villa along with the excellent Scharner 4.5m. Hoyte 4.5m would be a coup. Finnan in part-ex for Barry and we've solved our problems. All for £34m! Take off the Barry 16m and it would be a net outlay of £18m, plus the 5m for Sidders and 8m for Davies leaves £33m outlay and everyone of those players would enhance our side. Who needs Bentley / Barry? Still thnk we should go to Man City and get Petrov off them though.

None of those players will go for those prices, Bent 12m, Milner 9m, Shorey 5-6m, Green not for sale but maybe 7m. Scharner prob 5m, Hoyte doesn't want to go anywhere but 5m value. I don't see a right back there who would be good enough for a team going for 5th place. Seriously, we think it's easy to earmark players, but MON has got to make sure that they are the best possible target for the money and then work to try and get them for the right price. Going abroad is a lot easier so long as you have Uefa football, but you never know how they're going to adapt to the prem .
