43% Predict Villa Win & Ashley Young Up For Uefa

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by los_angeles_villan:

(Holding breath) Villa will v Odense BK:

The result isn't as clear cut as I thought it would be I must admit, maybe the lack of signings so far is knocking confidence, hopefully it isn't the meaningless pre-season friendly results that have people worried, they are only ever about gaining match fitness!

Win (43%)
Don't make me think about it! (24%)
Lose (20%)
Draw (13%)

A draw would be ok anyway, bring them back to Villa Park next Saturday to finish the job!

Ashley Young says he can't wait to make his European debut tonight saying on the official site this is the reason he moved to Villa.

He told www.avfc.co.uk: 'I don't think I've ever made such an early return to competitive games but this is such an important game for us to get into the UEFA Cup and I think the boys are fully prepared. We've had a few games to warm-up and now we're looking for a good result to take back to Villa Park next weekend. From a personal point of view this is my European debut, which is another milestone after making my England debut last season. Hopefully I'll get lots more international caps and I'll play a lot more European games for Villa.'

He also says he is no different to all players, he wants to challenge himself in Europe and assures the fans that the team know that Villa are a 'massive club' who need to be fully back in Europe.

'When I first joined the club we finished 11th and we improved on that last season to finish sixth. That gave us the chance to get into the UEFA Cup and we're delighted to have that opportunity. Now we have to grab it with both hands.'

Our latest poll asks which winger you would like to see at Villa Park.

MON will proabably now go after SWP for around 8m. SWP's future at Chelsea must surely now be over? Ian Wright seems to have a decent relationship with MON so hopefully he can help swing things our way.....Surely SWP for 8m is better than Bentley for 17m?? SWP has a much better attitude aswell

I will be happy with a draw tonight. Our defense troubles me tho. I really wish we had a right back in place for this. But maybe mon is waiting to qualify for europe to attract better players, which is a big gamble and will be quite humiliating if it doesn't come off

I'm certainly not confident of a victory in Denmark this evening, far from it. It will need a massive improvement on the showing we witnessed at Lincoln on Tuesday evening. Only a friendly admittedly, but there were some worrying signs there.

As for which winger I would like to see at Villa Park? Up until yesterday I'd have said David Bentley by far. Disappointed again.

Friendly or not, you're still playing to win the game. The keeper doesn't try any less than he would do normally to stop the ball going in the net and the strikers don't try any less to score. Friendly's DO matter, that's why we play them. If it was so much about fitness we'd just run around for 90 minutes wouldn't we. One of the main reasons for friendly's is to build up confidence, that winning mentality. At the moment, i'm not convinced we've got that and i'm not so sure the players have either. Still, lets hope we give em a good pasting so we can go back to Villa Park 3-0 to the good!

In terms of a winger, I think we should be giving a chance to Routledge. He's not played too many games, but by accounts his fitness levels are good and he's shown some glimses of his former self... It would be typical MON style for this boy to go on and be a star this season.. What a great 1 million pond buy that would be... Watch out for him once he gets his chance!

SWP would be twice the player as Bling Bentley! Our team is built around pace and athletism....Bentley has neither. He would be so tired any how by carrying his huge ego!!!!

Seems SWP is the favourite at the moment, wonder if it would have been different had Oneil not stated he want going to move on from Bentley.
