Barry to Return to Aston Villa Training?

Aston Villa have announced that Gareth Barry will be returning to training tomorrow. One wonders if it means that he will be staying on this season?

In a strange move, it appears that the club will now allow it's (former?) captain to return to training from tomorrow.

Speculation will no doubt arise given the projected breakdown of a Liverpool deal that has stalled so long, that Carson is set to join Stoke or West Brom, Alonso isn't off to Juve, and Barry has been no doubt sat at home wondering what to do.

With projected Arsenal interest, it seems that Barry has been allowed to return to training, and the Gazza Bazza saga looks set to continue, possibly with the 10-year Villan set to stay at Villa Park?!

Bizarre times indeeed!

Or maybe its just because an unfit Barry is harder to sell. Either way it is a strange development.
The Usual Suspect
Wonder what the chances are of him playing in thr ITC now?
JOHN.CAREWS.CREW
They must have offered a derisory amount for him (12m max plus donkeys). It's obviously linked to the Carson deal.
tarzan
I wouldnt want him playing in the inter toto quite frankly and not even playing for the 1st team until 1st September or a new contract at the same rate of pay if not worse is agreed to
shortshadyuk
I reckon we wont use him in the ITC either way because that ruins any chance of a deal, if he doesn't play then he can still go on deadline day for a pack of fags and a mars bar!
farmer_dan
Will he report for training?
tarzan
Liverpool can't afford him, they needed to off load Alonso.
tarzan
yes that its tarzan - liverpool are on a sell to buy and have no cash. They are signing players on frees left right and centre but can't afford any transfer fees. Now the alonso deal has fallen through all their posturing as a large club that can swan around and do as they like has backfired. They are broke - and everyone knows it.
The Usual Suspect
Strange how Carson would cost us 10m, but Albion or Stoke 4m. No wonder Villa holding out for full price for GB. With Alonso going nowhere Tom Jones won't be able to afford GB I guess. Maybe Arsenal will come in? If GB is still with us by 1 September, I personally would be pleased, because HE IS STILL A TOP PLAYER and would enhance our squad. Whether a truce can be called between him the fans and MON waits to be seen, but he is TOO GOOD A PLAYER not to want in our squad ON OUR TERMS
krfeskivilla
Broke is a bit strong, but they expected us to buckle with an unhappy player and a 10m bid. But he's got 2 years left on his deal. They're playing the same game with Robbie Keane.
tarzan
Will he be cup tied if he plays thoughs, didnt Anelka play in the UEFA Cup for Bolton last season, and when he joined Chelsea, he played in the Champions League?
JOHN.CAREWS.CREW
I'm not GB's biggest fan. This could be a watershed moment in "player power".
tarzan
Will he report for training? Wouldn't suprise me if he didn't.
tarzan
I don't think he'll be in the squad for saturday as he has done no training and won't be match fit, I'm not sure arsenal aren't interested in him I think that was a ploy to get the doley's to make a move but now the alonso deal has gone he won't be going to liverpool. Hope he makes a public apology to MON and then we can move on he's still a class player.
johnmurphy3112
Tarzan - they are broke. They were refused their funding for the new stadium. Why else are they selling so many players? Their new owners aren't as wealthy as they made themselves out to be. You know Hicks and Gilette spoke to DE about buying villa? Thank god for RAL.
The Usual Suspect
How come they bought Torres, Vorinin & the fast dude up front?
tarzan
My understanding was that Barry was fined 2 weeks wages for the NOW article and the 2 weeks is now up so, as he is still here, it seems logical that he should come back to training. I imagine he will show but if he doesn't then I assume he will receive a further fine. However, do remember that before his head was turned by that sad little club on Merseyside that he was a model professional.
pongo wearing
I think he can play in the Intertoto and in the Champions League as that is why chelski paid for Anelka as he was the best option available but was not cup tied due to the fact he did not play in champions League. I think you can play in both the comps, otherwise all the teams who fail in the champions league that go into the Uefa Cup, all their players would be cup tied!!!!! Uefa are a strange sort!!!!!
erv2005
Liverpool just ain't got the doe face it Rafa!!! ...and that statement from Barry was obviously scripted by his agent and maybe even Rafa.. DESPERATE Rafa, desperate agent don't **** with MON. I actually hope Barry stays and comes back fighting and wins the heart of the Villa Park faithfull again... after all he is still contracted to AVFC- we could have a very decent midfield going into next season. P.s. can't wait to do the red scouse at VP 3rd game in!
JeffBeck-TheLeftSide
Tarzan - They borrowed all that money a season ago, and bought those players a year ago too, and have had trouble refinancing. The credit crunch hits even the wealthy you see! They basically have been making credit card balance transfers, just on a larger scale, moving debt around to keep going - but they can't anymore so their treading water. They have spent next to no money so far this window - 3 players all on frees, but have sold Crouch for 11m and are trying to sell Carson as fast as they can. Now the alonso deal is off, trust me they won't be buying Barry and KEane - not unless spurs accept half of their reserves in exchange.
The Usual Suspect
I dont think that MoN will allow him to play again, I think MoN is very much in the Clough mould and once someone crosses him thats it. Barry will get a cold reception tomorrow, and MoN will not wlecome him back as it would show that Barry has the power to decide if he stays or goes, and not MoN. This will now be about MoN showing his authority to other players. No player is bigger than the club, and you wouldn't expect to see the best managers allowing a player to dictate to the manager. Can you see Fergie allowing it?
capitalvilla
MON will play him again. He is a realist, Barry is still an asset to the club for as long as he remains there. The ITC games are vital to our season and if he feels he needs Barry I am sure he will play him, once he has spoken to him and is happy that his 'head' is in the right place of course. .
jonah
Liverpool are up to there eyes in debt. These are high powered business men. They don't pop down to the TSB for personal loan. These people go to coorporate finaciers/ venture capitalsts. They are struggling even more than the public. We heard of a bank going bust last week. Two of the largest financial institutions in the states are being shored up by the US government. If Liverpool are in the debt we assume then it's going to get pretty bad for them. I heard that Hicks and Gillett have to raise finance the new stadium before any funds can be raised for players. I assume it could be something to do with security on the finance oustanding That's if I heard Correctly! I guess there will be a million scousers on here later saying "THAT'S NOT RIGHT GAPPY" it's how we big clubs do business. MON has run to the press BLAH< BLAH
gappy65
Liverpool are moaning about the price quoted for Barry! They quoted 10-Million for Carson, told MON that's the price, you knew it when you took him on loan etc. Then sell him to Stoke for 3.5-million... lol
gappy65
For God's sake, I need closure!!
greggaiger
Gappy - exactly what i have been saying. Its amazing how people with a millionaires lifestle can actually be broke but its there for all to see.
The Usual Suspect
Yeah i hope Barry is back on the training field...........the current ballboy has the flu! Hurry up and move on you slow donkey> LOL
bellywipes
first off - he can play in the intertoto and champions league. it's not the same competition so I don't know where people got the idea that if he'd play in it then he wouldn't be able to play for liverpool in the champs league.
los_angeles_villan

You can play for 1 team in the intertoto and then another in the uefa then another in the champs league but only in that order. Obviously intertoto starts and ends before the others but you can't play in the Champs league then move and play for a team in the uefa cup. The main reason is because a team can be kicked out of the champs league and then get put into the uefa cup if they finish third in their group so you could have a team playing for 2 teams in the same competition possibly against each other.
Villan444
The only reason that GB is training again is that if he wasn't allowed then he could claim that his contract is not being honoured or that his career was being hindered by not allowing him to even keep fit etc.
Villan444
Villan444 -"The main reason is because a team can be kicked out of the champs league and then get put into the uefa cup if they finish third in their group so you could have a team playing for 2 teams in the same competition possibly against each other." Now I am confused!
myleftfoot
GB has been such a t**t I really can't see him not turning up for training AND giving it his all. If he makes a pigs ear of this he will be forever tarred no-matter where he plays. I've always been a fan of GB but I feel like the long suffering wife who's been cheated on with a younger, prettier, thinner girl and I just don't know if i can forgive him. Cheating B*****d.
Mister Mick
Typical holiday romance. You let a chubby spanaird chat you up. He promises you the world and tells you he loves you but he just wants to get in your cacks. He's always at it. First GB then RK but we all know he only has eyes for SG.
Mister Mick
Someone please tell me we didn't just lose 3-1 to Lincoln City? I know it was a pre season and the result doesn't matter etc etc but FFSake, we fielded a fairly strong team! I think those subs after 60 odd minutes did the damage. It's made me a bit nervous about Saturday. Time to start grovelling Barry . . .
Villan-in-Cyprus
Vilan in Cyprus be patient toe ONeill out brigade will be front paged a little later.
col8
Villan in Cyprus - we fielded a strong team, apart from our back line which didn't have any defenders in their right positions apart from Knight. Saying that, I'm also nervous about saturday - we need to sign a couple of defenders TODAY please MON!!!
romanianvillain
No disrespect to Lincoln and I wish them well for the season. We should've still got a result there if Stuart Taylor was up front with Knight and Carew was in goal with Harewood at LB and maybe Randy Lerner CM.
Villan-in-Cyprus
Barry will be training with the youth team today
son_of_cher
tomorrow too, probably.
romanianvillain
Does anyone know if Gaz Baz turned up today?
Tez86
i personally wouldnt have him back. Its gunna be mights uncomfortable for him to get along with his team mates
Branston_Imp
Tez, he turned up looking very much like Carson! Weird huh? He didnt look happy though.
romanianvillain
Like like Carson? You mean stubble or do you mean a miserable look that he is going to scouseland, where his house will get robbed (prob by his on fans) while he sits on the bench in the champions league!
Tez86
Why all the kerfuffle? Most Liverpool fans I've spoken aren't that arsed about Barry, they think Alonso is better. I couldn't disagree. He'd do well in the Arsenal side.
tarzan
Alonso hasn't had the blessing of Steavie though. Gerrards picking the team nowadays and he doesn't take any ****e
PTP
As a spurs fan ( i come in peace ! ) i just want to say well done to Villa so far on their dealings with liverpool. Im disgusted with Benitez's way of conducting his transfer dealings in public, trying to unsettle players so their current clubs would have to reduce their asking price or be left with an unhappy player. He's doing it to Spurs too with Robbie Keane and its about time clubs like spurs and villa stopped taking the crap that these 'top 4' teams dish out to us, if we always bow to them then we will never break into that top 4 ourselves. So well done on sticking to your guns and dont accept a penny less than you want !
jimmy-yid
well said jimmy-yid, its important that our managers maintain a staunch position on this. rafa is only doing this because they are skint. they're going to find it very very hard keeping their top 4 position next season anyway, with the likes of villa, spurs, everton, pompey and (i hate to say it) man city likely to take that from them. the top 4 is going to become the top 3 again. benitez will be down the nearest look-a-like agency and will be rehearsing 'its not unusual' and 'delilah' ready for next summer!
bobbyfett
Great post jimmy-yid, couldn't agree more. Lets hope the rest of the league stick it to Liverpool (A Soon to be Former Member of the Big 4)
notthedougellisstand
A spurs fan! Talking sense! Jimmy - you are very welcome to come back. It's a novelty having a spurs fan that doesn't come on here and start with the "My club is bigger than yours" crap.
The Usual Suspect
far be it from me to talk against my fellow spurs fans as much as i love them but sometimes a few can get carried away. Im a realistic yid and never have i said ' next season we will be top 4 ' which alot of us do around this time of year. it just sets us up for so much ridicule......... but i digress
jimmy-yid
Barry's back in training at Bodymoor Heath maybe, but I dont think the situation has changed in the slightest. If Liverpool cough up the money, he'll be out of here, quicker than you can say Champions League.
glensider
You speak common sense jimmy-yid, and I agree with your sentiments 100%.
glensider
I think we all know it is inevitable that he will leave!
Adilson
Both Ramos and Keane must be watching events at Villa with acute interest. I can't see any NOTW exclusives from RK stating how he needs Champions League football next season - unless of course, he's looking to train with the yids academy for six months. Heard a rumour on the jungle drums that Barry is privately furious with his agent, Alex Black, for recommending he give the interview to the NOTW and intends to give him the boot come the autumn and the completion of this whole saga (whatever the outcome).
Equatorialvilla
That makes sense Equatorial. But the main issue here is that Redscouse only offered 15m over 3 years
tarzan
15m over 3 years is an absolute joke if true. A total insult. We will take your best player and limit what you can do over the next three years. They should be ashamed.
Gordonsleftboot
Isn't it standard practice to pay a transfer fee 1/2 up front and 1/2 in twelve months?
The Usual Suspect
Thanks for visiting jimmy-yid, you're a breath of fresh air compared to the usual yids.
Villan-in-Cyprus
Jimmy's talking sense, thats true. But when it comes to Villa and Spurs fans and this 'My clubs bigger than yours' mantra we're both as bad as each other. Most Spurs fans I've spoken to in person are generally quite sensible.
