'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Steve Sidwell Excited To Play For Villa Fans

Villa new boy Steve Sidwell told AVTV Online: 'The attacking, attractive football Villa played last season was fantastic to watch. They moved so quickly from one end of the pitch to the other all season and you can see how they scored so many goals. I particularly remember the 4-4. That was a game to remember!I thought overall Villa were unlucky to just pick up a draw - they should have won.'

The former Reading and Chelsea midfielder has already said he is looking forward to getting back to regular football and added in this current interview, 'I am looking forward to being a part of that brand of football and chipping in with some goals too. I am sure we will be a real force next season.'

He also says that Villa Park is 'fantastic' and talks of the great tradition here, adding in a very clever way (!) 'The fans have always been tremendous when I have visited with other clubs but I am looking forward to putting on a Villa shirt and playing for them now.' Nice move Ginger Ninja!

'I want to repay the manager, chairman and the fans for the faith they have shown in me by good performances and hard work.' And after his 45 minutes in the pre-season friendly game against FC Zurich he told the official site: 'It was just great to be back playing football.'

'It's all about fitness at this time of year and we need to get that quickly because we've got a big game next weekend. Hopefully we can step things up in midweek and move on from there. Today it was just nice to be out on the pitch. It's been a long saga and there's been a lot of waiting around for me. Now I just want to get on with playing for Aston Villa.'

'the' 4-4? Which one, Sidders?!
mightyrodders
It's funny that it's possible to ask that question really, ain't it rodders? Villa, Chelsea and Spurs 4-4 love-in was rather bizarre, but marginally the best of the three with the Chelsea-Villa game, just pipping Spurs-Chelsea to the post.

I was marginally less shouty and red during the Villa-Chelsea game than I was for the Villa-Spurs effort... Didn't really care about Spurts-Chelski as I hate them both.

He's obviously quite an intelligent guy, is Sidders - he knows what to say and I just hope he knows what to do when he gets on the pitch! Sidders for England!!

Refreshing to read the thoughts and comments of a player so clearly delighted to now be plying his trade at Brummagem B6. I think we can all expect big things from Mr Sidwell throughout the upcoming campaign.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him contribute ten goals from midfield this season. A very good signing by MON, at a very realistic and reasonable price, if in fact the 5m figure quoted in the media is correct.
