Villa Lose Pre-Season Friendly v FC Zurich

Villa lost 2-1 to FC Zurich in the second of our pre-season friendlies.

The Swiss team beat us on two questionable penalties given by a lady referee. A lady? I ask you, women in football, whatever next?!?!?

Gabby Agbonlahor got on the sheet, Steve Sidwell made his debut with a 45 minute run out and

My man on the ground said that Salifou looked good in the second half and Nigel Hokey-Cokey looked sharp. As Martin O'Neill said, it is nothing to do with the results and all to do with fitness, especially as Villa prepare for next weekends Inter Toto game.

VILLA: Taylor, Sidwell, Laursen, Harewood, Agbonlahor, Knight, Routledge, Reo-Coker, Baker, Gardner, Maloney. Subs: Young (for Routledge ht), Carew (for Harewood ht), Williams, Delfouneso (for Agbonlahor 72), Salifou (for Sidwell ht), Petrov (for Maloney ht), Stieber, Albrighton (for Reo-Coker 90), Osbourne (for Baker 42), Parish.

And who put my caps lock on.....

TIME TO START CALLING FOR THE MANAGERS HEAD :-P
col8
Who can forget that fantastic swiss ref from the intertoto a few years back, almost managed to end the game ten minutes early!

O' NEILL OUT!!
Villan-in-Cyprus
MON should resign immediately etc. And Randy Lerner should borrow $48973489357638 against the club to spunk on booze, birds and keeping GazBaz in the reserves for a couple of years, just for a laugh.
mightyrodders
And the board, get them all out....!
The Fear
Was it really that bad????????? Come on lads, at least give him till we've lost to Walsall
Kuffit
This is a disgrace. MON should get in some reinforcements as the current lot obviously cant hack it.
young_jonah
Funny you should say that Kuffit. I was doing a bit of research and apparently there is only one team in the English league who we have never beaten. WALSALL!!!! If anyone knows something different, i'm more than happy to be corrected. I hope i'm wrong anyway.
Villan-in-Cyprus
What's with the random order of the team sheet? I'm sat here trying to work out who we're playing at right back and it looks like Harewood's playing alongside Laursen!?
lorenzo
S'not random, Lorenzo. It's the cold, harsh light of reality... somebody switch it off!
mightyrodders
Losing a friendly is no disgrace, losing next week in the intertoto will be....
ashtonvilla
Think it was the order of the shirt numbers. Seems to follow the numbers from last season. I'm guessing that Sidwell must worn no 4.
Curteece
Waldorf. Wasn't that the match where someone called Benni McCarthy scored an obvious offside goal and didn't we have someone unfairly sent off?
TheQ.
A woman ref, 2 disallowed goals for Villa and 2 dubious penalties for the opposition - sounds like we were playing the Manx!! But hey, if yo look at the big picture of our preseason tour, we won 7-2, title-winning form surely?!! :))
romanianvillain
Another opportunity to gain some more match fitness on Tuesday evening over at Lincoln City, then its the 'biggie' at the weekend against Odense. Good to be back on the european stage, thats for certain.

How long I wonder before we see a woman referee in the premiership? We've got that 24 year old lad on the list this upcoming season. What's the world coming to? We'll let females start posting on Vital Villa next.
