Brad Guzan Deal To Be Concluded?

Looks like the move for Chivas goalkeeper Brad Guzan could be back on.

The USA international, whose move stalled in January after he failed to get a work permit, said when asked about a move to Villa Park:

'talks could be concluded over the next couple of days.' He also says he is hopefully it works out and added, which seems a bit premature before pen is put to paper...! 'I'm very thankful to everyone at Chivas for the three years I've enjoyed here.'

Quotes from Tribal Football.

Right on cue...Guzan in, Brad Friedel in to cover while he goes to the Olympics and while he gets used to the pace of the english game. Two keepers tied up for under 10mil, I would be happy with that!

I think this guy could be quality, although he will certainly not sign if these quotes are from Tribal,Im excited by the players we're after except Bently who we wont sign and is a big time Charley.Sidwell is one of the smartest signings of the summer along with Crouch at Pompy.
Pking
The quotes were made on ESPN when he was interviewed after last night game with LA Galaxy, Tribal have just picked up on them from there.
Jaytee247
Well that makes me feel better about the situation...

Any of you seen him though? Glensider says he's seen him 3 times and that he's not got it. I've never seen him and know nothing about him but Glen seems to know his onions and having seen him is in a better position to rate him. A lot of people seem to think he'll be a good signing. I'm wondering if this is FIFA talk.
PTP
Didn't he play in the England friendly vs USA? I thought he did ok.
The Usual Suspect
MON rates him. good enough for me
UTV
True, but MON has been wrong in the past. I hope he's not first choice.
PTP
American keepers are usually good. I reckon this is becasue theyre brought up to use theyre hands more as they play american football/Basketball!!

Ok, Friedel and Guzan in, Guzan on the bench whilst he learns about the premiership and matures into the keeper I hope he will become. he looks to have plenty of promise, but is far from being the finished article, and working alongside Friedel would be fantastic for him. Plus I am sure Friedel can do an excellent job for us for one or two seasons.
romanianvillain
If Sparky is in for Friedel we have no chance of getting him.At 37 it would be a stupid signing.
Pking
Guzan looked good against England although he only played half a game. Pulled off some good saves. I think him and Friedel would be a winner. Friedel to stay on in a coaching capacity after 2 years. Job done! ;)
Adam Deuce
a couple of mates in the states support chivas and reckon Guzan is good and athletic. has a howler now and then, but don't they all? at 23? he has to be worth bringing, hey we finished 6th last year with Carson!
leftfoot
I'm not happy with this. Think Guzan will need at least a couple of years. And the last time we signed a veteran proven keeper (Schmeichael) we ended up with Enckleman taking over!!

MON rates Guzan, and he and his other 'eyes' have clearly seen Guzan more than I, so I guess that really shoots down my argument. I will re-iterate though, and I'm not saying this to be a 'Mr Big Know-It-All', cause I most certainly dont, I just have an opinion like you guys, but having seen Brad Guzan play 'live' on four occasions, he hasn't impressed me at all. He's a big guy, but is poor on coming for and collecting crosses, and fumbles shots way too often for my liking. BUT, maybe I caught him at the wrong times. Several european clubs have reportedly been after him, so he clearly must have something. He certainly is nowhere near ready to be thrown into our starting line up, that I certainly can assure you.
glensider
Bringing Brad Friedel in as our number one, and Guzan's mentor, would I think be the way to go. If not Friedel, then someone, anyone, of quality to immediately make the starting line-up. Maybe, and stranger things have happened, MON is planning to go with Stuart Taylor? I doubt it, but you never know.
