Quantity Not Quality -Or Something Like That

Martin O'Neill has insisted that he will not be rushed into signing just any old players in an effort to boost our depleted squad. He wants quality.

With the capture of Steve Sidwell simply needing the rubber stamp, O'Neill has turned his attention to other targets that may or may not already have been contacted.

Speaking on the official site, O'Neill admits it would be ideal if 'all' of his targets could be signed prior to the Intertwobob:

'It would be nice to get through but I wouldn't want to just sign players just for the sake of trying to get them involved in the Intertoto Cup.

'We've got 10 days or more before the Intertoto Cup but registering players is a 24-hour deadline before those games.'

Currently it appears Villa will face Odense, who are the favourites after their victory over TPS Turku in Finland last weekend.

'Odense are 2-1 up from their away leg against TPS Turku and you would think over two legs they'd be pretty strong.

'I saw Hibernian were beaten 2-0 at home to a Swedish side - Elfsborg - so that's a concern and we wouldn't take anything lightly.

'But getting players in during this pre-season is our aim. I know we've got until August 31 to sign players but really we need the strength in depth before we kick off.'

Wow, for a while I was wondering wether the front page would ever put up an article again. And now there have been 5 or 6 in the last 20 mins or so. Never rains but it pours eh?

Fair comments from MON, there is no point in signing easy targets just to boost youngsters - I'd rather play a few of our youngsters than do that. Saying that, MON needs to get his finger out and start signing large quantites of quality players. Come on MON!!

He says, 'I know we've got until August 31 to sign players but really we need the strength in depth before we kick off' Does this mean that he wont leave much till the last day and pretty much all his transfers will be completed before the game against Man City???

I don't want to sound arrogant, but I think we already have the quality to see us through the Intertoto. I agree we shouldn't panic-buy.
Villan-in-Cyprus
We shouldn't panic buy, no Villan-in-Cyprus, thats perfectly correct, but lets not get away from the fact that we are short on numbers and quality, so the sooner that is addressed, the better. Getting all of our targets in before the Inter-Toto tournament is unrealistic, but hopefully we'll have most of the new faces on board pre-Manchester City.

A goalkeeper and a right back surely now have to be our priority? Hopefully we are well down the road towards getting those signings completed.

eh PTP? We've done over 50 so far this month!??!?!
