Villa Linked With England Winger Bentley

Villa Linked With England Winger Bentley

Looks like now really is time for action, with the Steve Sidwell signing imminent reports in the Mirror and the Mail today claim that Villa have also put in a bid for Blackburn's David Bentley.

Both reports suggest Villa have tested Blackburn's resolve with a £10million bid.

Hogwash! £10million? Lets face it, the £10m quoted would make no sense at all, he is a young and gifted England international and Blackburn have already said they don't want to sell one of their star assets and will only allow him to go for the right price. Much like the Barry situation for Villa though, Bentley has made it clear he would like to move on and once that happens, the players usually get their way!

Other reports are suggesting that Spurs manager Juande Ramos is willing to sell half of his team with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Hull City, Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers apparently watching with interest.

The report in the Sun claim says that Ramos is looking to trim down the squad massively with following teams after these players: Robinson (Aston Villa), Chimbonda (Pompey and Newcastle), Dawson (Newcastle and Hull), Lee (PSV), Malbranque (Aston Villa), Keane (Liverpool), Boateng (Real Betis), Tainio (Hamburg), Bent (Sunderland) and Ghaley (Blackburn).

Wouldn't mind us going for Chimbonda and Robbie Keane, then again I've got no money, don't own Villa and am not the manager!!!

There are signs that this could be a great summer i think Bentley would be a great addition. THE SLEEPING GIANT THAT IS ASTON VILLA IS STARTING TO AWAKE.

is it me or are all the clubs around us a little poor, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs all selling to buy... possibly could be this summer where teams can break into the Top 4 and imagine how skint those clubs would be without finishing in the top 4 or thereabouts, surely their budgets ae based on them being in the champions league

If we were to get Bentley for say £12 mill added to the £5 mill for super stevie sidwell and then get rid of barry for £17 mill plus Finnan, that would be 3 excellent players in and haven't actually spent any money yet!! I know I know relax I'm getting a bit excited!

I agree shortshadyuk, teams such as Liverpool do seem to set their budget taking into account they expect to be playing CL football. But when it doesn't happen (and they won't be there forever) they'll be struggling to compete in a league which revolves around money. I reckon we've offered around £13M for Bentley, which is an ideal offer to test the water. Just don't want a bidding war between us and Spurs, regardless of the fact that we'll win it.
