Steve Sidwell A Done Deal

Having returned from my holidays and given the Villa board permission to commence signings: Click Here, the Villa have announced that Villa and Chelsea have agreed a fee for midfielder Steve Sidwell subject to a medical, which is due today.

The club expect the deal to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Should prove to be a very good signing for Villa, what do you think?

He was a model professional - never complained or moaned once about being out of the side. He'll do a job for you replacing Barry, I've got no doubt.

Excellent signing for 5m. He's be an ideal replacement for Barry and will probably socre more goals than him too. MON will turn him into our equivalent of Fabregas/Gerrard/Lampard. We should use the remaining 13m of the Barry transfer plus another 4m to bag Bentley and we'll have one hell of a creative goalscoring midfield......Bentley and Sidwell in exchange for Barry and an extra 4m is great business

Wonderful! Let us hope the next 6 or 7 that we ought to sign are as good if not better. I have no doubt he will do a very good job for us. What price he is in the England team within two years and Barry is out. It really could happen.

gotta laugh at chelseaforevers' comment. "wasn't cut for top level....but a good signing for you.." mmmmm... ah well at least a 'lower' club can still take 4 points from cfc in their lofty position.

Ok leftfoot, when was the last time you reached a Champions Leaguefinal? Feck that, when was the last time you participated in a Champions League match? Any sensible fan would understand what I said, top level means Champions League football, something your once-hero Barry craves for. Did I say that Villa is a 'lower club'?

In terms of league position, maybe, but you lot are certainly a club on the rise. If things go your way, you may even be challenging for the 4th spot in a couple of years.

Ignoring Nostradamus, I'd like to offer my congratulations, Sidwell is a very good player. He didn't cut it at Chelsea not because he doesn't have the necessary ability, but like many other stars, he couldn't adapt quickly. And when you have Ballack, Essien and Lampard competing for your place, you have to impress every time you play. He'll have less pressure at Aston Vila, more backing and will shine like Diarra has at Portsmouth.

I think leftfoot laughing at sidwell never being cutting it at top level refers to the fact that he was never tried at the top level.

No worries at all kriss, wish we could show them, I think it promotes the PL and doesn't cost the PL / other leagues anything to allow some limited highlights, but they aren't of a similar mind and to be fair they are the ones with the biggest lawyers! lol

Dont think youtube will get away with it for much longer after that court case in america. You do have a point though Fear, why do shirt sponsors pay a lot of money to be on tops?? cos people are watching the game and the players are mobile advertising boards also. Also the premier leaugue is a brand, surely they want to reach as many people as possible, are they not missing a trick by not striking up some sort of deal with youtube?? or allowing embedding etc???

I know, there really isn't anything that can go wrong now, it's done only subject to a medical for a guy who's 25 and fit...but i hope we don't get let down after so much anticipation. Oh, do i hear a Bentley pulling up at Bodymoor...when that happens i'll take whatever crap MON wants to feed us for the remainder of the transfer market.

Hopefully he will be replacing Gareth in a Villa shirt and an England one. Box to box midfielder and has it all including pace, something our departing captain with the remnants of Gerrards excrement still on his nose will never know about.

Good signing indeed. Good piece of business, and at a realistic price. If he turns in many performances like the one against us a couple of seasons back, when he completely ran the show, even finding time to score a brace, then he'll soon become a Villa Park favourite, winning over the doubters.

I just worry about the way we went about this Sidwell transfer. It was all done discreetly, properly and elegantly in gentlemanly fashion between the two clubs with no media hype. Shouldn't we have leaked something to the Birmingham Post first for Chelsea fans to read second hand. Shouldn't MON have spoken to Big Phil privately and then made it public? We are so far behind Liverpool!

Its a great signing MON will get the best out of him, he'll play week in week out score a few and get some england recognition......Barry will play a couple of times a month, he won't be penalty taker, lose he england recognition. Move over Barry.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Barry saga is never resolved. Surely if Tom Jones lookalike was in desparate need of Barry's services then he would have signed him by now. Heis procrastinating because A) he's worried about the signing because no one else is quing up for his services and 2) he wants to save face and not admit that he has be done over by MON. The pool and their manager are a disgrace. Stomp up the cash so we can all move on or strike his acct from ebay.

Bentley, Bentley, Bentley!!! I say we really rock the boat and go for Bent now as well. Also, cheeky bid for Belletti and Bridge and sort Shorey and a goalie and I'll be well pleased. I think we'll be getting Finnan soon with some dough for Barry. ANYONE fancy O'Shea, apart from his missus!!!!
