Steve Sidwell A Done Deal

Having returned from my holidays and given the Villa board permission to commence signings: Click Here, the Villa have announced that Villa and Chelsea have agreed a fee for midfielder Steve Sidwell subject to a medical, which is due today.

The club expect the deal to be completed within the next 24 hours.

Should prove to be a very good signing for Villa, what do you think?

Adam Deuce
Pleased with the signing. Good luck Sidders
notthedougellisstand
Thanks for that fear, will you now give him permission to complete the deal for miguel???
Eircol
Good luck to him. He'll benefit from this move imo.
Fan of Blues
Just wasnt cut for the top level. But yeah he'd be a good signing for you IMO. Wishing him luck.
chelseaforever
TFFT!
Mister Mick
And I've got fish pie for me tea so It's all good.
Mister Mick
He was a model professional - never complained or moaned once about being out of the side. He'll do a job for you replacing Barry, I've got no doubt.
daspecial1
Welcome aboard the claret and blue express Ginge.
villakieran
Great signing. Gareth who?
GCR_villlan
Excellent signing for 5m. He's be an ideal replacement for Barry and will probably socre more goals than him too. MON will turn him into our equivalent of Fabregas/Gerrard/Lampard. We should use the remaining 13m of the Barry transfer plus another 4m to bag Bentley and we'll have one hell of a creative goalscoring midfield......Bentley and Sidwell in exchange for Barry and an extra 4m is great business
son_of_cher
Wonderful! Let us hope the next 6 or 7 that we ought to sign are as good if not better. I have no doubt he will do a very good job for us. What price he is in the England team within two years and Barry is out. It really could happen.
Obediah
gotta laugh at chelseaforevers' comment. "wasn't cut for top level....but a good signing for you.." mmmmm... ah well at least a 'lower' club can still take 4 points from cfc in their lofty position.
leftfoot
thats the first time iv come to VV and see that villa are to sign someone and its not a rumour, wow! great signing, if mon can work his magic he'll be in the england squad before too long
krisvilla
Great news i just want more more more. Would be nice to get a gk and right back in the next seven days and then sum other big names like Bentley Bent Ferdinand etc.
astonsteve
Ok leftfoot, when was the last time you reached a Champions Leaguefinal? Feck that, when was the last time you participated in a Champions League match? Any sensible fan would understand what I said, top level means Champions League football, something your once-hero Barry craves for. Did I say that Villa is a 'lower club'?
chelseaforever
Any one else remember MON's "7 players" in a day quote? Heres to hoping!! Think sidwell will be a great addition for us.
capitalvilla
We are a lower club at the moment.Currently we are the 6th best in the league and your lot are 2nd,No need for an argument about that. You were spot on chlsea forever.
villakieran
In terms of league position, maybe, but you lot are certainly a club on the rise. If things go your way, you may even be challenging for the 4th spot in a couple of years.
chelseaforever
fair cop chelseaforever, but you did hint at a chelsea higher status. champs league or not. i supported cfc in the final by the way. peace.
leftfoot
Chelsea forever when was the last time you won a European Cup? Rest my case, move on Glory Boy, !!!!
erv2005
by the villakieran i wasn't arguing, nor comparing. we all know where our clubs are at. chelseaforever just bit a little hard at my useless comment...
leftfoot
welcome ginger one.
Stig
thanks erv2005, some back-up. maybe you 'got' chelseaforevers first comment as well.
leftfoot
Spot on erv2005. Great signing and a good replacement for GB.
Mutley73
very happy, he is a good player
holte_ender8
Yea, high and mighty these Chelsea Fans, easy enough when their Russian benefactor is throwing money at them, but he will get fed up and where will they be, in dept and back to obscurity like before he joined. Eddie Newton WAS a class act mind, my ar5e!!!!
erv2005
meant to say Debt, gutted!!! And with this credit crunch too, damn!!!!!
erv2005
Great news! And now... Sidwell For England! :)
Poncho
Ignoring Nostradamus, I'd like to offer my congratulations, Sidwell is a very good player. He didn't cut it at Chelsea not because he doesn't have the necessary ability, but like many other stars, he couldn't adapt quickly. And when you have Ballack, Essien and Lampard competing for your place, you have to impress every time you play. He'll have less pressure at Aston Vila, more backing and will shine like Diarra has at Portsmouth.
k_chelski
I think leftfoot laughing at sidwell never being cutting it at top level refers to the fact that he was never tried at the top level.
johnnyuk
SUPER, SUPER STEVIE, SUPER SUPER STEVE, SUPER SUPER STEVE, SUPER STEVIE SIDWELL
erv2005
Very happy with the Sidwell signing. Agree with sonofcher - if we can get Bentley we'll have a top notch-top 4 attacking midfield. See ya Gareth. Enjoy warming the Anfield bench.
pongogidman
NOW FOR BENTLY ARRRRRRRRRR
Gruck
plenty of them please mr sidwell!
krisvilla
apolgies about the vid! just realised when i posted
krisvilla
(Sorry, had to remove the youtube clip of PL highlights involving Sidwell, youtube aren't allowed to show them and by us embedding them we also break PL and dataco rules. No idea how youtube get away with it so much as they do!)
The Fear
No worries at all kriss, wish we could show them, I think it promotes the PL and doesn't cost the PL / other leagues anything to allow some limited highlights, but they aren't of a similar mind and to be fair they are the ones with the biggest lawyers! lol
The Fear
Dont think youtube will get away with it for much longer after that court case in america. You do have a point though Fear, why do shirt sponsors pay a lot of money to be on tops?? cos people are watching the game and the players are mobile advertising boards also. Also the premier leaugue is a brand, surely they want to reach as many people as possible, are they not missing a trick by not striking up some sort of deal with youtube?? or allowing embedding etc???
krisvilla
Enough about tubes... Who's next??
Eircol
You mean you dont know?
steako
????????????, I cannot wait for the next couple....
Eircol
Reality...he's not holding the shirt yet...he can still back out, and i won't be chanting his name just yet...anyone remember milner?
AstonMartinOneill
Thats probably because his hands are busy signing forms? Its done....
Eircol
I know, there really isn't anything that can go wrong now, it's done only subject to a medical for a guy who's 25 and fit...but i hope we don't get let down after so much anticipation. Oh, do i hear a Bentley pulling up at Bodymoor...when that happens i'll take whatever crap MON wants to feed us for the remainder of the transfer market.
AstonMartinOneill
Another good signing, a very astute piece of business. NEXT!!!
Jon.H
Good signing who will become a great signing under the watchful eye of MON. And why would he want to play for Portugal, anyway?
gwyllum18
Great addition to the squad.
villapeach
More of the same please.
Villan444
Hopefully he will be replacing Gareth in a Villa shirt and an England one. Box to box midfielder and has it all including pace, something our departing captain with the remnants of Gerrards excrement still on his nose will never know about.
Villan444
Good signing indeed. Good piece of business, and at a realistic price. If he turns in many performances like the one against us a couple of seasons back, when he completely ran the show, even finding time to score a brace, then he'll soon become a Villa Park favourite, winning over the doubters.
glensider
Well whose next Eircol. Spill the beans. MON has surely consulted you, to put you in the know? We're all ears.
glensider
"winning over the doubters" - what doubters?? :o)
BobTheBuilder
Is it only me that thinks that he looks like beaker from the muppets???? http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:Ju0R6kwwEbEJ::farm2.static.flickr.com/1052/1183257558_3390fcc71d.jpg
Villan444
I just worry about the way we went about this Sidwell transfer. It was all done discreetly, properly and elegantly in gentlemanly fashion between the two clubs with no media hype. Shouldn't we have leaked something to the Birmingham Post first for Chelsea fans to read second hand. Shouldn't MON have spoken to Big Phil privately and then made it public? We are so far behind Liverpool!
VillaYamYam
Its a great signing MON will get the best out of him, he'll play week in week out score a few and get some england recognition......Barry will play a couple of times a month, he won't be penalty taker, lose he england recognition. Move over Barry.
johnmurphy3112
yeh its just you villan444
Astonian Villan
Wouldn't it be funny if the Barry saga is never resolved. Surely if Tom Jones lookalike was in desparate need of Barry's services then he would have signed him by now. Heis procrastinating because A) he's worried about the signing because no one else is quing up for his services and 2) he wants to save face and not admit that he has be done over by MON. The pool and their manager are a disgrace. Stomp up the cash so we can all move on or strike his acct from ebay.
myleftfoot
Bentley, Bentley, Bentley!!! I say we really rock the boat and go for Bent now as well. Also, cheeky bid for Belletti and Bridge and sort Shorey and a goalie and I'll be well pleased. I think we'll be getting Finnan soon with some dough for Barry. ANYONE fancy O'Shea, apart from his missus!!!!
koolbill
Well, Sidwell is officially a Ginger Villan now, welcome on board Sidders!
