'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Player Talks Ongoing

Martin O'Neill insists that he is working hard behind the scenses, and revealed that a number of bids have been lodged for players and negotiations are ongoing.

Villa travel to Switzerland today, squad as per other article, but just like O'Neill insisted his summer commitments did not and could not get in the way of player signings - whilst over there, he will also be chasing up his targetted players.

Speaking on the official site, he said:

'We are in the market - strongly - for players. We are lighter than last year. But I'm convinced we will start the season more strongly, in terms of a squad.

'Gareth's situation has been an issue, unquestionably, but we have not taken our eye off the ball.

'Bids have been going in. Negotiations are taking place on various fronts. It's just that we do not have anything official to announce just yet. However, I anticipate there will be significant additions.'

Well, I know some fans comment that O'Neill is very coy in the press with his promises, but in previous years his signing indications have never been this strong.

I'm actually looking forward to our new look squad, I just hope the signings in terms of quality, as opposed to workmanship, are more Young and less Knight.

I just hope that the next few weeks will be as exciting as we all hope, and that we start off the new season with a new-look squad capable of pushing the few clubs above us even harder than we did last season.

Good to read. We all know that the wheels are obviously slowly turning, but its good to hear MON confirm that we are indeed fully active behind the scenes. Might calm the ever growing anxiety amongst the supporters.

Its going to be a tough ask to repeat last seasons top six finish, so we have to hope that we have a strong squad, complete with the much needed quality new arrivals, when we kick off our new premiership campaign against Manchester City. Hopefully we can get off to a flier, and then build on that.
