'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Platt You Pratt

David Platt has stood by his belief that Gareth Barry needs to move to a 'big club' to further his career, much like Michael Carrick???

Martin O'Neill has described his missives as 'worthless' which probably gives them too much respect to be honest.

Speaking some gobbledegook to somebody, but I've taken these quotes from IC Brum, David Platt former Villa hero mumbled:

'Michael Carrick needed to leave and join a big club because it puts bigger demands on you and it is the same with Gareth Barry.

'It's not necessarily the people within the club but just the level you are playing at and what you are playing for.

'I've always said that Michael Carrick was like a Rolls Royce. He needed to put his foot down and have to run to show what it could do - and I'd say the same with Gareth.

'At the moment he can walk into the Aston Villa team. He is guaranteed a place.

'At Liverpool there will be a massive amount of pressure next year. There will be more demands of him at Liverpool than there would be at Villa and he needs to go to reach that level.'

Now although I agree with the last sentance, Barry is a guaranteed starter but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will relax, become complacent and any implication that he will actually does him a disservice.

The rest though, yes because Michael Carrick has really set the world alight since leaving Spurs hasn't he. Do me a favour.

Carrick has done well, but quite frankly he'd have probably done better staying at Spurs where he could have made a difference.

Or of course the attitude thesedays must be move to a club that you know will stand a chance of being immediately successful even if you sit on the bench, rather than actually make a difference.

And that is all it boils down to, will Liverpool likely finish above us next season? Yes we are out to consolidate this season and maybe take 5th place. Barry can either be a part of helping that happen and earn his money, or he can go to Liverpool, warm the bench, be in the Champions League for a couple of games and maybe pick up a medal a season or two sooner than he would if he stayed.

But will he have earnt it specifically, nope, no more than Carrick to be honest. No more than Yorke did when he went to Man U and no more than other players who take the easy route.

It's easy to grow your cabinet collection by taking the easy option, I'd suspect it's far more rewarding and makes a better story for your grandkids knowing you played a major part in winning it though.

Barry may well be off, it's almost guaranteed, but quite why David Platt, like Patrik The Gob feel the need to comment is something I'll never understand.

It's disrespectful, unnecessary and rather than meaning anything just ruins the reputation of the speaker. Sadly Platt has just done that amongst the Villa faithful, and for what, 15 seconds of fame again?

The best thing Platt said:

'Martin O'Neill knows more about the Gareth Barry situation than me.'

That should've been all he needed to know to keep quiet and not look an idiot.

The stupidest thing about it all, when Platt moved on to win medals and further his career - he was an almost perfect gentleman about it.

Why blow it now.

Typical sour grapes from the new-found whingers of the Premier League - hardly suprising by the way your manager acts on BBC. "Michael Carrick has really set the world alight since leaving Spurs hasn't he. Do me a favour". Ok mate, ill do you a favour...in the two years since Carrick joined us he has played a pivotral part in wrestling the league away from the dominace of Chelsea, and retaionign it again this season. In addtion he helped us to lift th emost coverted prize in european club football, the champiuosn league, not to mention playing an instumental part in our run to the FA cup final in 2007. He has been our foremost moidfielder in those two years, with his perfomances on the field forcing the best ever midfielder to ever grace the prmier league scholes, hargreaveves, and the incredibly-gifted anderson fight for a place alongside him. he has won 3 things in his 2 years at our club.....3 things more than he won at WHL. I have respect for the way your club plays football, but the utter bile you spread out on this site is nothing short of embarrasing. YOU ARE NOT A TOP 4 CLUB, and therfore cant realistically compete against them. fair enough you may get the odd win here and ther against the big boys, but not even you can realistically think you can compete over a 38 week season with the top 4....even liverpool. i dont rate barry highly at all, and i think capello has made a right pigs ear of making barry seem the player he never has and never will be, however for once i am going to side on the favour of liverpool and say that a move away from villa is the best thing for him. if he has any serious ambition to win things he must leave now, whilst peaopel are still blinded to his false-promise, otherwise he will get found out for what he really is - a average, consistent midfielder with the odd flash of magic....nothing more, nothing less. rant over.

What the **** has it got to do with him? Correct me if i'm wrong, but he did the same- left to win trophies, and won sweet **** all in Italy until he went to Arsenal a few years later?? In which case, why is he advising Barry to do something which didn't even work out for him? I reckon something happened behind the scenes at Villa that left him bitter, and this is how he's getting his own back.

thing is if Ronaldo does go,we will survive without him.bigger and more influential players have left us before and we get over it.You lot should take a leaf out of United's book and shut up bleeting about players who dont want to play for us any longer.
SweetLeftFoot
the other question is - would carrick have been a regular if scholes hadnt been injured/blind for quite as long?

Lol at United4life. Is that the same Carrick who can't get in the England team ahead of Barry. ?Now, I actually think Carrick is a good player but I don't think he is any better than Barry. Scholes is far and away you're best midfielder. The only reason he doesn't play every week is because Fergie is saving his legs to keep him going until Anderson is ready to step into the breach. As for whinging, yeah we do moan on this site but only the same as every other site when a team have used underhand tactics to get one if your players. (Real Madrid ?) I just want to point out I don't agree with eveything said in this article. Carrick did the right thing making the move because Man Utd are genuine title contenders but Liverpool are far from it and even with Barry they are still at least 10 points away. They may have a good run in the Champs League again but that is it.

'i think capello has made a right pigs ear of making barry seem the player he never has and never will be' What so you don't think that had anything to do with MON then united4life? Typical deluded manure. You're obviously not English, which is just what i'd expect from a glory-hunting gob ****. Just in case you didn't see every England game this season, Barry has outclassed every player on the pitch. Period. And has been man of the match nearly everytime. Now go and do your homework, glory-hunting foreigner.

hahah why bring ronaldo into it? by deflecting my arguments it just proves how self-confident you are in yours. Fact is Ronaldo is leaving for money. he has prett much said as much himself - his ambitions were to win the preimer league and champions league with us and he has...so now he wants to leave. i dont agree with it, but can accept it. you on the other hand want to begrudge someone the chance at silverware - beaceuse in all reality he is 27 so has at most 4 good years left in him. Can you really see yorself winnign anything of merit in the next 4 years? Perhaps if your lucky a carling cup or at the very most an fa cup, but nothing more. Face it, you cant offer the lad the chance at glory thatt liverpool suprisingly can. You all need to wake up to the fact that you are not onte of the big boys in english football and regardless of your new sugar-daddy, sucess cant be brought in a time-line of just 4 years. ( I mean, even chelsea were a half-sucessful team before RA) I know its sounds patronising, but it isnt....i would say the same if i supported Wigan or Derby. Its just the way football works.

Sweetleftfoot, United will continue without Ronaldo, that is very true. However, it will be interesting to see where you find nearly 40 goals from next season.

Oh and Villain in Cyprus, you *****ign xenophobe...im English, which is something that cant be said of you, villain-in-CYPRUS!. I watch the monotomy of england whenver they play, and i can assure you Barry does not shine as you think he does. He is lethargic on the ball and simpyl chooses the safe option all the time....direct parallell to Carrick who isnt afraid to use hsi creativity to do somethign special (may i suggest you watch a couple of united games from last season to see what i mean...arsenal in the FA Cup for example). Oh and notthedougellisstand, you seem to know alot about fewrgies tactics - you sure your not a closet united fan? but the point your makign is utterly wrong my friend, Carrcik got in our team because he was our best performer and only missed games when he was injured. Anderson is ready to step up which is why he started 24 games for us last season. Hargreaves also didnt play as much as many expected. Why? because of the performances of Carrick. Anyway i can see that United and Villa fans are not going to argree on thsi so lets just agree to disagree - safe in the knowledge that I am right! :)

Ah Man United... Doesn't it make real football fans smile when they see a Man United fan? Because either A: they're a 'Chav' trying to be cool and fit in with their friends (wearing a shirt that's about 10 years old and still has sharp on the front) or B: they're a kid who doesn't know any better. Apologies to 'real' Man United fans but considering 99% of their fanbase has never even seen old trafford, I just can't help but smile/laugh.

Not deflecting your arguments, united4life, just merely pointing out the whole 'people in glass houses' scenario. And it's got nothing to do with the fact that wants out, it's how he has handled the whole situation, the timing of it, Liverpool publically behaving like cocks, etc. It just seems like you've only read half the story, and then come on here critisizing us for voicing our opinions. Where does your bitterness come from? Is it because we support our local team? The truth is, if you asked the vast majority of Manure fans they'd still keep Ronaldo in a heartbeat. Whereas most of us don't want Barry anymore anyway. All we want is to rip off the scousers. End of story really.

Jesus, is that whole "your not a true fan like us" thing your guys only argument? THe whole villa contingent are singing off the same hymn sheet.....and its a ***** one. Fact is that all that stuff dont bother Utd fans becasue they get it all the time, from pig-ignorent fans who cant tell their arse from their elbow. Its born from jelousy, a deep-seeded jelousy. Truth is I take those kind of silly insults and one-liners very well, as it proves you have run out of football-related arguments and are mearly scurring back to the only thing you know.....like a scared littlle kitten that has just *****ed itself. Me and SLF will be off now ok, we have bigger fish to fry. Godd luck next season and look foreward to another season of beating you in every competetion. Goodbye Chaps!

Football related discussion is more fun. 70m for Ronaldo - 26m for Berbatov - show's where the power and lack of competition lies.

YAWN !!!!! Sorry was just nodding off there ! Your missing the point here its not about winning things its about being true to yourself and your team, not jumping on the glory bandwagon. Stick to your own sites with your fellow bellends !! P.S how,s the weather in Brighton ?

Goodbye United4life, it was (far from) a pleasure having you here! As your English is really quite awful I'd guess you were a 'Thailand' red or perhaps Malay! Anyway, I'm sure one day you'll make it to Manchester to find the only real club in the city play in blue and that it really is a hole up there. Goodbye Ronaldo and goodnight to you all!

Platty, you were my hero, now you can kiss my hairy @ss,Liverpool are a million miles away from Man.Utd so to use Carrick as an example is a joke, plus Barry has overtook him as a player since he has been at VILLA you tw*t.

Thankyou united4life, for just proving every single point we've just made. Being born 10 minutes from the ground is actually very convenient. Not that you'd know. By the way, which ground were you born near, Plymouth Argyle by any chance? Or maybe Stamford Bridge? Jelousy? Ha ha ha ha please, don't make us laugh anymore today united4life. In case you didn't realize, any single one of us could be a manure fan (and probably attend more games). We could have exactly what you have and wear the same shirts and talk the same utter rubbish. But the truth is, we choose not to. God i'm so jelous, I only wish people would show me as much contempt as they show you wherever you go. How about we leave the glory hunting to you, seeing as you're so proficient at it.

Carrick might be playing regular for manure but he doesn't even get into the England squad. The soon to be departed Ronaldo is the reason that the scum won anything this year. NOT the non tackling, non goal scoring, non dribbling, passing sensation that is Michael Carrick. Scouse red won't win anything so the whole plastic manc arguments are just non starters. "Me and SLF will be off now ok". Does SLF need someone to hold his hand or are you 2 bunking off school in London somewhere watching manure TV or getting over excited watching the Gary Neville's skill school DVD (only lasts 20 seconds) before he got that shocking tache. http://listman.net/archives/villa/2004-June/049308.html

Platts so call 'big move' when he deserted us failed miserably, he failed at management, and he is a horrific pundit - who if he keeps up with the tradition of his past career moves will fail at that. *****er.

The great Terry Weir (RIP) was once interviewed about his time at the Villa and talked about his relationships with all of the captains - Rioch, Nicholl, Phillips, Ross, Mortimer, Evans, Platt, Richardson, Townsend. There was only one who he mentioned as "arrogant and uncooperative." Good on ya Platty - nice to see nothing's changed. Personally, despite his one good season, I always thought he was a d-bag. Never want to think of him as a legend - he was made to look good by Sid Cowans......now there's a living legend who is STILL producing for the club....

Guys I'm a villa fan and have been for 20 years but if you read properly what Unitedforlife is saying he has some reasonable points. There was no need to attack him. Sure Carrick lost his place in the England team but he won two major tournaments. We shouldn't have to rely on one player so heavily and we are no longer a top 4 team. I think we will be again in the near future but not now. Yes man Utd have a lot of supporters outside of Manchester but that is completely irrelevant to our argument and we too have supporters all of the world... or at least we should if we even dream of being a big club again.

I maybe responding to United4Life late (Girlfriend hasn't got the internet, may have to slap her ***) but I am not and never have been a United fan. However, I am a typical Villa fan who is knowledgable about football in general. That is unlike all those Man Utd fans who always wear those red-tinted glasses.

Not the most popular chap around Brummagem B6 nowadays is our Mr Platt. He has his opinion, I accept and appreciate that, but he does seem to have an agenda against all things AVFC. Its not the first anti-Villa Park comments he's made in recent months. Wonder what it was that the club did to him that has left him so anti-claret and blue?
