Sunday's Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

As Edwin Starr once said, War... What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again! Well, apparently war is good for one thing and could result in Spartak Moscow 6'3' defender Martin Stranzl arriving at Villa Park. Why? Well because the News of the World say Villa are 'locked in a battle' with Everton, Celtic and Galatasary for the 28-year-old. Makes you wonder really why I didn't just say we've been linked with the Austrian, would have been less painful for all of us but then again, rumours are thin on the ground and professional as ever, I'm padding out the article!? ;-)

The Observer repeat the rumour that both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are interested in Spurs keeper Paul Robinson.

The Mail On Sunday talk about Marlon Harewood's quotes yesterday (see front page article on Vital Villa) saying he wants to stay at Villa and lists Stoke, Fulham and QPR as would be suitors should he decide to leave.

The News of the World say we'll grab Steve Sidwell from Chelsea this week for around 5.5million and will make a move for Valencia's 28-year-old Portugal international right-back Miguel, who seems to be linked daily in one paper or other!

Vital Wigan are carrying a story today saying that Martin O'Neill is interested in teaming up with his former Leicester City player Emile Heskey. Worbo saw a 'story' from Tribal with no quotes, substance or meat to the rumour and put pay to the suggestion of the big man moving saying 'Heskey is too important to the Latics to be allowed to go to Villa, indeed they could be seen as one of our main rivals as we aim to challenge for that UEFA Cup spot next season so why would we sell to them anyway. A fully fit Heskey with a good preseason under his belt is just what we need to lead the line at the JJB and help bed in our new Egyptian superstar Amr Zaki. Hesks, you`re going nowhere.' That is the key with Heskey, blue nose associations to one side, he spends half his time injured so I hope to goodness we aren't after him.

Other links today according to the official site, not sure if they mean in the papers or anywhere because if they are counting the gossip sites it really is a stretch! Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips, Newcastle's James Milner, Blackburn's David Bentley.

I'm sorry but Heskey is quality and would be a darn useful signing. His hold up play and lay offs are excellent. I much rather we brought in a player like Heskey for 3 to 4 million then Crouch for 10 million. People who dismiss Heskey are being extremely shortsighted.

I agree with Skeggy, Heskey would be a very usefull signing if he could stay fit. He looked good against us last season and holds the ball up very well.

under MoN Heskey was very good as far as I can remember.

don't need heskey, we already have Carew and Harewood for that role.

Harewood sucks balls at holding up the ball, he never goes for 50/50 heraders either

If he could stay fit is the key. He never does play a full season does he? Also remember when Blues got relegated last time, think he scored 3 goals, he was meant to be their star striker. When fit and in form, he is a very good player but not an out and out goalscorer ?

Heskey was in the Championship under MON. He impressed and Liverpool signed him. His career has gone dramatically downhill ever since. Not a quality signing, we already have a striker at that level in the form of Harewood and i much prefer him. No need to sign Heskey. Not a player to improve us or help us move forward. Good point RE: Harewood and headers, for someone that big he should win his fair share but can't remember 1. Maybe he is too big to get off the ground.

Skeggy, both Heskey and Crouch are sh it. A couple of key words come to mind when you mention their names. Crouch=long balls Heskey=fall over. Oh yeah, and both=sh it.

At the end of the day we didn't have trouble scoring goals last season. Strikers are clearly not our main priority. A RB anyone? Maybe a GK? Just a tought.......! ;)

I'm embarressed that we are even linked with Hesdonkey, who next Dean Windass!! come on we're looking to move to the next level get real. adam is right we score goals for fun, but need to defend them better-so a CB,RB or 2 and 2 keepers. I have massive faith in MON but hopes something happens soon.

in fairness to MON the great one, who here would have said buying Ashley young was moving to the next level?? i seem to remember a lot of people here complaining, admitedly i was sceptical as well but we do need to keep faith in the man who turned villa in to the prems most entertaining and most watchable team despite our low numbers, next season promises to be a great one but us villans need to show MON we have faith in him as well as the team or we could end up losing something special.

Even though Villa scored for fun last season, M'ON should still try and sign a striker who can scored 20+ goals a season. We need to add a new dimension to our attacking play next season. As much as defenders play a key role in set pieces, they can not be relied on too heavily to score goals, NRC needs to chip in with a few more next season and a few from Petrov would be nice.

The late, great, Edwin Starr, Tamla Motown artist, moved to Tamworth from the good old US of A. Sorry, but I find talking about Edwin more interesting than all of these transfer rumours.

Do agree fully though with a lot that has been written in the above posts. We Vital Villans definitely know our stuff. Particularly agree with JOHN.CAREWS.CREW, another proven striker, someone who can mix things up a bit, add a little extra, is an absolute must.

Can't believe we are even entertaining a discussion regarding Heskey. Nothing personal, but he is no better than we already have, not to mention the fact that he's too old.

Big thing against Heskey is his age and the ammount of time he spends Injured.

If he didn't fall over so easily he probably wouldn't get injured. If we sign Heskey I will protest at the Trinity Rd gates.

I'm not disputing the fact that he scores every other game (that he plays) however, it appears that he plays once about every 5 games. If we're talking genuinely about an assault on the top 4, neither Crouch or Heskey are going to take us to that next level. Think about it for a moment.

just to get the record straight because is seems my posts aren't making any sense...Heskey is poop I'm not disputing that fact!!!! just the whole crouch argument that is baffling me. The fact he doesn't get a regular game and still scores every other game is astonishing. It can't be very good for his morale to know even if he gets a hat trick he still isn't guaranteed a game, yet he still shows up scoring goals. That is a mighty impressive trait to have and shows great mental strength. I would have a team of 11 crouchs, that's how convinced I am of his ability. That's my personal opinion.

That's all very well, and I can see your point. But the fact that he can score so many goals WHEN he plays, yet still doesn't seem to get a regular start anywhere he goes, suggets to me that he's just not doing it on the training ground...?
