Thursday's Aston Villa Transfer Rumours
Not so many rumours today and what there is are mainly repeats!
The Daily Mail repeats rumours that Villa are after Steaua Bucharest defender Nicolae Dorin Goian, 27 and Valencia full-back Miguel.
The Daily Star claim Villa will scupper Tottenham's plans to sign Blackburn midfielder David Bentley for £15million.
The Sun say that Chelsea 'flop' Steve Sidwell will join Villa on a three-year contract worth £45,000 a week. Sporting Life say that reports we've agreed a fee are 'premature' and that a deal is still being worked out for the 25-year-old midfielder. The Birmingham Post say Aston Villa fans will get in Steve Sidwell a cracking young footballer - a central midfielder who can score at least half-a-dozen goals a season and provide the highly entertaining style of play fans have grown to expect at Villa Park. That's the view of a source close to the Chelsea player (his mom?!?) who was last night said to be at the centre of a £5.5 million bid which could see the 26-year-old move from Chelsea to Villa Park and become Martin O'Neill's first big transfer deal of the summer.
The Daily Express say that Villa are after Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar with Newcastle United and Sunderland also after the Spaniard.
There is also another link to Spurs striker Darren Bent but I can't remember which paper I saw that in. There you are, professional to the last! Oh and reports of his £90 000 wages are wide of the mark according to Spurs fans, he is on around £40 000 a week, the rest is made up of his signing on fee.
The Birmingham Mail claim that Villa will move for 23-year-old Arsenal right-back Justin Hoyte.

In fairness we have at least been linked to a higher class of player, and more of them, this Summer so far than for a long time. Just hope it is a sign of exciting things to come.

On a separate note, has anyone heard from AV48 recently? he seems to have gone quiet. I ask only because I heard that he was perhaps not in the best of health and genuinely hope he is still OK.

The Sidwell deal is far from wrapped up, despite what the media would have us believe. I would expect fierce competition for his signature. MON still has a lot of work to do.
