Some reports today are claiming that Villa are in a battle with Sunderland for the signing of Spurs striker Darren Bent.
According to Sky Sports Braga have told Aston Villa they will have to pay top dollar to secure the services of defender Joao Pereira. The right-back is apparently a target for MON along with Porto and Napoli. Braga president Antonio Salvador has set a price of around £3.9million for the 23-year-old Portugal U21 international. He told Portuguese press: 'We do not want to sell. Pereira is a key man in our plans and only a big deal would make it possible for him to leave. The price in the market is 5million euros.' How strange saying they don't want to sell him then putting such a low price on his head!? Pereira said: 'I am totally calm about my future. I am prepared for anything, but it is normal that I would like to progress like any player.'
The Guardian suggest that Gareth Barry will have to put in a transfer request if he wants to end the stand off between Villa and Liverpool. Not totally sure what difference that would make? If Liverpool won't meet Villa's valuation of the player (£18-20m according to different reports) then the player will be going nowhere. The paper claim that Liverpool will make one final (and 4th) bid and if not Rafa will move on to other targets. Maybe it is time for Barry to put in a request so everyone can see what he wants but then his quotes last month were saying he has a lot to lose and he knows he doesn't want to alienate the Villa fans who have been good to him over the years or to upset the club that has established him as an England international.
In total contradiction of the Guardian the Sun say Barry's 'dream move' to Liverpool has moved closer after Villa agreed a fee for Steve Sidwell.
As reported earlier, reports today are claiming Villa and Chelsea have agreed a £5.5million deal for midfielder Steve Sidwell. Villa & Chelsea Agree Sidwell Fee?
The Telegraph are reporting: 'Gareth Barry has ended weeks of speculation and requested a move to Anfield, according to reports. However, Villa have rejected a third bid from Liverpool, and are expected to hold out for £20 million.'
The Telegraph have also picked up on the link to Valencia defender Miguel saying we are closer to a cut price deal than Arsenal and Chelsea.
