Wednesday's Villa Transfer Rumours

Some reports today are claiming that Villa are in a battle with Sunderland for the signing of Spurs striker Darren Bent.

According to Sky Sports Braga have told Aston Villa they will have to pay top dollar to secure the services of defender Joao Pereira. The right-back is apparently a target for MON along with Porto and Napoli. Braga president Antonio Salvador has set a price of around 3.9million for the 23-year-old Portugal U21 international. He told Portuguese press: 'We do not want to sell. Pereira is a key man in our plans and only a big deal would make it possible for him to leave. The price in the market is 5million euros.' How strange saying they don't want to sell him then putting such a low price on his head!? Pereira said: 'I am totally calm about my future. I am prepared for anything, but it is normal that I would like to progress like any player.'

The Guardian suggest that Gareth Barry will have to put in a transfer request if he wants to end the stand off between Villa and Liverpool. Not totally sure what difference that would make? If Liverpool won't meet Villa's valuation of the player (18-20m according to different reports) then the player will be going nowhere. The paper claim that Liverpool will make one final (and 4th) bid and if not Rafa will move on to other targets. Maybe it is time for Barry to put in a request so everyone can see what he wants but then his quotes last month were saying he has a lot to lose and he knows he doesn't want to alienate the Villa fans who have been good to him over the years or to upset the club that has established him as an England international.

In total contradiction of the Guardian the Sun say Barry's 'dream move' to Liverpool has moved closer after Villa agreed a fee for Steve Sidwell.

As reported earlier, reports today are claiming Villa and Chelsea have agreed a 5.5million deal for midfielder Steve Sidwell. Villa & Chelsea Agree Sidwell Fee?

The Telegraph are reporting: 'Gareth Barry has ended weeks of speculation and requested a move to Anfield, according to reports. However, Villa have rejected a third bid from Liverpool, and are expected to hold out for 20 million.'

The Telegraph have also picked up on the link to Valencia defender Miguel saying we are closer to a cut price deal than Arsenal and Chelsea.

Apart from the fact it is raining and I'm hungry (not related incidents I don't think)I have nothing else to report at the moment! :o)

if garath has put in a transfer reqest it would mean that he forfeits his loyalty bonus which could be worth up to 3million so we could then accept 17million from liverpool and still make the 20mil we want for him

good point. I think O'Neill may be trying to force him to put in a request. I think saying he wants to go to Liverpool without actually putting in an official request is a sneaky way of trying to keep the loyalty bonus which he doesnt deserve if he has asked for a move. With all the mixed information it's hard to know what the truth is. If he told MON he wants to go then MON should make him put in an official request for it

It will be Liverpool who want GB to put in transfer request. As stated earlier, this would save Villa about 3m, so we would accept less from Liverpool. Quite right too, if player is that keen to move, he should make financial sacrifice. Sidwell would be a good signing, so too would Darren Bent imo. His style of forward play would I think suit us, but I would then see Marlon moving on (very similar) and we would still need another forward unless Delfonseau became 4th striker. Miguel, Bentley and Van der Vart would be pretty good as well in my dreams!

Hold tight! This may be the start of a fantastic ride. If Sidwell signs, in truth I'd love to see him alongside Barry. Not likeky I know, but if we start signing just a few of the players we're being linked to Barry may soon decide he's made a mistake. If he did stay how long before we could forgive him for being a plank?

How long before he's forgiven? The time it takes him to score his first goal of the season and kiss the badge.

Its good to see us linked with Darren Bent, I really rate him any one who can score 20+ goals with a poor charlton side will score a shed load with young supplying him. However he is paid a lot down south so would be unsure if we could get him. He would be my number 1 striker target though.

I, too, think a Barry + Sidwell midfield partnership would be quite excellent. Add to that Boruc, Bent, Van der Vaart, any RB, and a decent CB and I would be dizzy indeed.

Darren Bent is paid 94k weekly, that's ridiculous money. I doubt MON would pay him that.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/04/02/ufnpaylist102.xml

I'm a massive fan of Bent, and I don't think he's worth 94k/week. Saying that, he would be a good addition to the squad and would probably be a starter most of the time. But I just don't think he's worth it.

I like the Darren Bent rumour, he'd definitely be a quality addition to the squad. Isn't this Arshavin talk a little bit pie in the sky?
