'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 17/06/2008

Unoial Villa News...

Apparently Aston Villa and Manchester United are still chasing Valencia fullback Miguel. Must have been a very long race this as he's been linked for months! The Portugal international is not happy with his treatment at Valencia saying he's told the board that it would be best for 'all concerned if I left.'

England and Blackburn midfielder David Bentley has a host of clubs including Aston Villa, Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool all apparently after his services following his announcement that he wants to leave Ewood Park. The 23-year-old told Sky Sports News that he wants out of Ewood Park and now all has to be decided, one would assume, is the fee which as we've seen with the Barry saga, the price has to be right otherwise it doesn't really matter what the player wants! Full article: Villa In Battle For David Bentley?

According to the Daily Mirror Liverpool are set to make a fourth bid for Villa skipper Gareth Barry and the red top claims the clubs expect to come to an agreement this week. Pie in the sky? Well, not if you believe their claim that Villa have shelved plans for Gareth Barry's testimonial for 10 years service. Apparently August 9th had been pencilled in for the game but this was scrapped after the player told Martin O'Neill that he would like to join the Anfield club. The fixtures for next season are out and Villa kick off on Saturday 16 August against Manchester City at Villa Park. Our last game of the season, for once, is also at home, with Newcastle the visitors. Villa At Home First & Last Games Of Season

meyouldy pointed out that Villa have brought the Aston Villa Ladies under their wing and Rob Williams has been handed managerial duties of the senior ladies team. Williams spent four years as football in the community officer at Wolves and also served as a football coach at Stourbridge and Solihull Colleges. Duncan Riddle, Head of Community: 'We are pleased to announce the appointment of Rob and we wish him every success in his new role. We are also delighted to reveal that Villa Park will now be the HQ of the ladies team and the girls centre of excellence. Several of our in-house community coaches will also be involved in the development of our female players.'

Vital Villa, in our last poll, asked: How are you feeling about the transfer window? The majority said same as last summer, frustrated. 56% 23% were taking the longer view (!) saying they'll panic at the end of July if there are no new arrivals. 12% were chilled out saying there was plenty of time. That left 6% very nervous and 3% excited.

Our latest poll asks, if we got 20million for Gareth Barry, you would think of the deal?

By Vital Villan: Nigel Hokey Cokey has said Villa should look at Everton as an example of how to build successfully over time. And to be fair he has a point. Under Moyes Everton have pretty much improved season on season and they finished above us by a couple of points even though Martin O'Neill has only had a couple of years with us. Their growth has been a huge success for them and is all credit to Moyes. But in many ways in far less time, we blew 5th place last season with some shoddy results and should've taken Everton out of the races far earlier. So although we should look at Everton and see how long it can take to grow, ultimately given the time periods Everton had one or two element we didn't have in my opinion. The experience and the bottle. Full article: Stick At It Like Toffee

Olof Mellberg is looking to the young Villa players to push on from last season and challenge the top four. The bearded wonder, currently playing in the Euro's (a little known tournament that our home nation teams don't enter....!) for Sweden, told the official site he might have left but he's not forgotten us and will be watching the results whilst at Juventus. He also says getting into Europe would give the young guns great experience and Martin O'Neill agrees saying, 'If we can get through the Intertoto and into the UEFA Cup it could be great experience for our players. If we can get through to the Group Stages, where you can take stock a little bit, that would certainly be the case.' Full article: Mellberg & O'Neill On European Experience

Thought for the day: It's easy to distract fat people, in fact it's a piece of cake.

NRC certainly talks the talk, and no doubt will be MON's favourite contender for the captaincy next season. Big season for NRC, I think we all expect him to step up a gear. Should be ideal in the captaincy role.

All quiet on the goalkeeping front. Wonder what's going on there?
