'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nervous Or Excited? And Is £20m A Good Deal?!

Vital Villa, in our last poll, asked: How are you feeling about the transfer window?

The majority said same as last summer, frustrated. 56%

23% were taking the longer view (!) saying they'll panic at the end of July if there are no new arrivals.

12% were chilled out saying there was plenty of time.

That left 6% very nervous and 3% excited.

I guess we need to bear in mind that not many clubs have done good business yet and although it would have been lovely to have seen a couple of quick arrivals, it isn't always the way the transfer windows work with most clubs waiting for others to make the first move to guage where the transfer fee levels will be. As I mentioned the other day, Portsmouth chief Peter Storrie said recently on their official site: 'We know our targets, we know exactly the positions and names we want. We're working on things, but June is a notoriously quiet time in football, with people away on vacation. I can't see too many transfers being done in the next couple of weeks.'

Our latest poll asks, if we got £20million for Gareth Barry, you would think of the deal?

People seem to reject the fact we could barely field a 5 a side squad never mind compete with Europe. I would admit if I was a pompy fan I wouldnt be worried they didnt have the smallest squad in the premiership last season, they have a right back and multiple GK oh and they havent released 5 players since the end of the season....I remember that is us!

Not many clubs have done much, spurs made a massive start with Modric & Dos Santos, Chelsea with Bosingwa. I don't think anything else of note has happend yet? Arsenal with Ramsey. After that is there any more?

20M is an excellent deal for Barry. IMO he's clearly not worth that much, but if Pool are willing to pay, then you should bite their hands off for that kind of money.

People who are actually panicing over transfers need to stop take a few deep breaths and then use somthing known as the brain to think about the situation and ask yourselves if you really think o`neill cannot count or doesn`t know what needs doing and is really just no botheing to work on transfers. As for 18-20 million for barry that would be brilliant buisness.

Again not meaning to sound overly pessimistic but every club in the premiership will buy to improve the quality of the squad, we have to imrove numbers also...we ae far behind a lot of other teams already.

Can't see why people are frustrated or nervous. Despite all the talk and column inches in the papers, I think there has only been 4 actual transfers of players into Premiership clubs. Nobody knows what is actually going on in the background and two of those are free tfrs!! Trust in MON UTV \o/. Would love to keep GB BTW

Nothing will happen while the Euro's are on and there is loads of time. I can't understand why people panic MON will know who he wants to buy and there will have been discussions behind the scenes. From the rumours its midfield and defense where he will spend the most which considering we scored goals for fun but let in too many would make sense. I am happy so far and as for Gareth 15 million would be pushing his value anything over that is a bonus and we should bite their hands off before they wake up.

I think the fustration comes from MON past showing in the transfer market. Lets jump back to January we sat excellently placed after somehow getting there with no RB no RM and very luckily no injuries. Everyone saw this as an opportunity to bring in more bodies and to keep the pressure on for the fourth spot...MON brought in a player who hasnt played in about a year and he manages an whole 4mins for us. Be honest guys everyone was as disappointed when the Jan window closed. We were lucky to achieve what we did last year one injury and that would have been our season shot to pieces.

If you refer back to an interview MON gave a week or so ago he was saying how fantastic it was that most of the season was played with the same players ie Barry, Reo-Coker,Carson, Laurson etc, etc. I wonder if MON believes it's possible to go through a season with the same basic eleven players like it was in his Forrest days. It's not and with the possibility of UEFA it's even harder as you play on Thursdays giving less recovery time before the weekend games.

Sorry to dampen your faith, Mister Mick, but last time I checked it was the managers job to get the team winning. His track record seems fine to me.

I wasn't knocking his ability to win a game, but anyone who believes we can enter a season without a RB or a No1 GK and stay free from injuries and suspensions for a second season could be in for a shock. Love is blind.

That's right lets sit and wait. Just like last year and just like we did in January. I'm sure we will see new arrivals and hopefully these positions will be covered, but so far I've seen 5 leave (yes I'm counting Barry) including our captain (yes still including Barry) and so far none arrive. OK normally maybe not such a big deal at this stage of the window but we were already short of numbers.I guess you were happy with Routeledge and Salifou ( who is so great he gets a whole 1 more year to prove himself).

I'm just hoping that there's several deals almost tied up. Maybe MON's just adding the finishing touches . . . as he said himself recently "We could sign seven players in one day". But I don't want that day to be 31st August!!!!!!!

If O'Neill gets to spend the cash you get for him then its a good deal for you. He's made it clear he wants to go to Liverpool so you may as well let him go. The last thing you need is a player who really doesn't want to be with the club. That is a shame after the service he as given you.

We have served him just as loyally, and you'd think after 10 years he'd at least have the decency to tell us himself. He STILL hasn't released a statement. The only people who've said he wants to go are MON and his agent. The only reason he still hasn't handed in a transfer request is because he wants his 7 figure loyalty bonus. Ha loyalty, don't even go there.

Come on Ericol anyone can tease exactly who do you think will have arrived by next week?! There seems to be two sets of fans here. I think we can all agree that at least some official bids would make us all feel better. The relaxed approach that Villa and MON have taken have already cost us our captain and was a big risk last season. We have to show to the rest of the world and the fans that we are an abitious club aiming to be one of the best in the world!

He should take a leaf out of Olly Mellberg's book. What's the point in giving good service to a club if that's how you're going to leave? Now it's all for nothing. Anyway, hopefully MON will use the cash wisely:)

Barry and Ollie, good players but not great. I'd be more worried if Young and Laursen left. Sidwell, Guzan and Bullard look the likely candidates. If we signed a right back, star goalie and Bentley I think I'd soil myself with excitement.

Of cause I am bloody nervous I had to listen to all the talk, that loosing my seat to the prawn brigade is because the club is moving forward We are about to loose our captain that keeps the team flowing. We still have seen no sign of players coming in just the ability to loose the ones we already have. We have been told too many times before that players are coming DONíT TELL ME SHOW ME

FatKev, you're right about actions speaking louder than words. But it looks like MON is going to "get by" with what we have pre-season. Bentley won't happen. Milner maybe, but the Toon will want at least 7m for him.

Bentley would cost us most of the money we'd get from Barry, and thats if he wants to come. SWP, Milner, perhaps, not Bentley, I just can't see it. Sidwell looks like he's coming, Bullard and NRC alongside him could be the best central midfield we've had in years.

£20million for Gareth Barry? Yes, if the guy wants out, which seemingly he does, then £20million is a fair and realistic asking price.
