Villa In Battle For David Bentley?
England and Blackburn midfielder David Bentley has a host of clubs including Aston Villa, Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool all apparently after his services following his announcement that he wants to leave Ewood Park.
The 23-year-old told Sky Sports News: 'I have made it clear to the club what I want to do. The situation is I want to move on. I want to be playing Champions League football, or in Europe. I want a new challenge. I believe I have done as much as I can at the club and want to push on somewhere else.' Adding, 'I owe them so much and I hope I’ve repaid them with the way I’ve played. I’ve been here for three years and I love the club but I feel like I’ve done everything I can. I want to move on and try to push up the ladder.'
Would be good to see us in the mix for him, one in one out still won't build the squad though! I can't see Liverpool having the funds, Manchester City certainly do so it would all depend on how well Bentley got on with his former Blackburn boss Mark Hughes. Spurs or Villa? Tough one, both have the money, both are ambitious, does the lad want to be further up north or does he fancy a return to the capital? Who knows....!

if bents went to city or villa then the guy is a looney! it mytg be a step foward this year as you are in europe but if you dont qualify next season he will jus want to move on again

There's every chance MON is in for him; young and british. But worth 15mil? From what i've seen him he's not that outstanding.

He didn't say he wanted CL. He said he wanted CL or Europe. And as we'll be in the UEFA Cup next season we fit his criteria - so lets get him on board.

I dont think we will a) go for him or b) get him. He hasnt got pace which is MON big criteria for the wings. Whether he could play CM like Barry remains to be seen. would imagine we would go for Milner or SWP ahead of him tho. He is massively over-rated, good player but nomore than £10m. Milner and a confident Wright-Phillips are better IMO

I would certainly like to see MON go after him. He has plenty of pace, and crosses a beautiful ball. Bentley on the right would make a perfect counterpart to Young on the left.
I don't see any of the top three going after him because ManU and Chelsea have depth on the right and I can't imagine him returning to Arsenal. Pool should be after him with both barrels, but there's no indication that they are and they will be strapped for cash if they continue to pursue Barry. I can't see him going to Spurs because they already have Lennon - I guess they could shift him to the left or Bentley to the center, but both are less natural fits. ManCity are definite possibilities if he would like to link up with the old boss. Pompey have bags of depth in the middle.

Think he will either go to us or Liverpool if im honest. Would love to see him with us next season, quality player and I can forgive him straight away for his spell with Le Scum down the road from us. If he does join us at least he has seen the white side

Wouldve been nice to get bents and played him along side barry! oh well, he does fit MONs bill though, he behaviour won't matter as we know how MON is with man-management, we also know how good he is at getting the best out of players, villa would suit bents.

i dont think we will get him because he will be offered more money at other teams, like city, portsmouth, west ham, tottenham and the top four. also we don't seen to by the bast players from good teams, but rather players that arn't getting a game. which is completly frustrating but the way it seems to be. thats not to say that we couldn't get him if we just started to spend a bit more like those other teams.

I'd very much like to see him at Villa Park, but, sadly I think he will opt for Champions League football. If Ronaldo leaves OT, which is looking increasingly likely, then I'd expect Bentley to end up there.
