Unoial Villa News...
Former Aston Villa and West Brom striker Cyrille Regis has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. The 50-year-old also played for Coventry, Wolves, Wycombe and Chester City bagging 205 goals.
Wilfred Bouma says 'We felt we could win every game' last season which was the key to our 'success'. He is now hoping Villa can push on and challenge the top four. 'In the past my view is that we didn't believe we could win a lot of games. We're totally different now and hopefully that will continue. Belief is very important in football.'
The fixtures for next season are out tomorrow. Be interesting to see who Villa get for the first game!
The club have announced: Supporters can pre-order the much-anticipated 2008-09 home Villa replica shirt in store and online NOW. You can place your order by visiting the stores at Villa Park and New Street or by clicking here. Villa's away shirt goes on online pre-order from August 1 but is available from August 21. All pre-orders for the 2008-09 home replica shirts will qualify for a free Villa gym bag, bootbag and wallet pack while stocks last.
Gordon Cowans has highlighted three Villa youngsters who could break through next season. He tips striker Nathan Delfouneso and two young defenders Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker. He told the official site: 'We're delighted that Nathan was given a first team squad number this season. Whilst he's yet to make the bench, it's important for him to have been around the first team and it also shows another of our players is making the step up. This is what we're here for as an Academy and the players have to take their chances to impress. They have to look at people like Gabby Agbonlahor and Craig Gardner and show the same determination to progress.' And on the defenders: 'Ciaran plays regularly for England under-19s and has shown a lot of promise and we are hopeful that he will come through. Nathan Baker is another young lad and we are very hopeful of those two. But let's give them time.'
Just as we all start to panic (as usual?!?) on the lack of transfers, AstonBurrito pointed out in the Vital Villa forum quotes from Portsmouth chief Peter Storrie 'We know our targets, we know exactly the positions and names we want,' Storrie told Portsmouth's official website. 'We're working on things, but June is a notoriously quiet time in football, with people away on vacation. I can't see too many transfers being done in the next couple of weeks.'

Our very own BarosBarryBouma has been trawling the Liverpool sites and found LFC Online full of Liverpool fans who don't want Gareth Barry moving to Anfield. Take note Mr Barry, a hero at Villa Park with a testimonial and the chance to get this great club into the Champions League or an automatic place on the bench in the Champions League? Hmmm, I wonder which I'd go for! Might all be academic if Liverpool can't come up with the right bid anyway, but here are just a few posters looking at it from the Liverpool side of things: Liverpool Fans Don't Seem To Want Barry

Vital Villa asked who would you most like to see at Villa Park next season. I don't think the answer will come as a major shock, most wanted to see the former Arsenal legend and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry (37%), although as someone pointed out he has struggled with a back injury for the last two seasons so maybe not such a good shout?! The next major voting block (30%) went for Blackburn's David Bentley. Full results: Who Would You Most Like To See At Villa?
