Sunday's Villa Transfer Rumours Round-up
Looking forward to the Euro's ending, maybe then we'll start to see some signings for all clubs in this transfer window! The speculation only gets you so far after-all!
According to the People, in a rumour repeated from last week, Aston Villa are after Liverpool's Steve Finnan. Fulham are also after him.
The News of the World claim that Newcastle winger James Milner has begged Kevin Keegan to let him go to Liverpool, his 'dream move'. The report claims that Liverpool are offering cash + a player (21 year old Danny Guthrie to be exact) but Villa have lodged a straight cash offer of £7million for the 22-year-old.
Speculation in Portugal say that Villa are after Sporting Braga's 24-year-old right-back João Pereira after failing to secure the signature of Benfica's Nélson. Apparently Napoli and FC Porto are also interested.
The Observer claim that Liverpool will bid £15m plus add-ons up to a deal of around £18million for Gareth Barry. Yawn. 4th time lucky for the Anfield lot? Apparently not according to this report as the add on terms include Liverpool winning the Premiership and Barry getting 30 more England caps.
Meanwhile the News of the World claim that Villa have told Liverpool they won't accept anything less than £20million for the Villa skipper. The NofW claim that Barry will put in a transfer request which will cost him a seven-figure loyalty bonus. They say: 'He was reluctant to do so because he would lose the massive lump sum on top of missing out on a lucrative testimonial.'
Anyone think there will be some new arrivals before the end of June?

WTF WTF WTF Barry will definitely not win the league at liverpooh and it would be doubtful he will get another 30 england caps on their bench. Now this is no disrespect to Fulham, I think they're one of the more tollerable of London clubs. But is anyone else slightly disheartened by the fact we're repeatedly being linked to the same players as them, if not current players? I mean, this is a team who survived relegation by the skin of their teeth. Are we not bigger, better and more established than this? Their target for each season seems to be staying up, and they're quite happy with that. We, on the other hand are supposedly planning an assault on the top4 in the near future.

How old is Finnan not the right back I would choose out of the ones we have been linked with at all. Va Der Vaart or Diego...if we all chip in we could buy one of them for MON to save him the decision lol

I see your point erv, with regards to the media. Maybe it would help our case if we were to officially bid for Henry, Ronaldinho, Van der Vaart etc. Whether we can pull it off or not, at least it would raise our profile and people might start taking us seriously?

I agree Villan in Cyprus, I would like us to go head to head with a big club for a player. Someone like our big 3 and pool or a Euro giant like Real or Milan, if we lose out to them so what? It would show our intentions to rival and become one of the superpowers in football.

the thing that really *****s me is that we keep hearing about this fiver year plan to get into the champions league, but it will be impossible if every year we buy average players whilest the top 4 and even a few teams out of the top four keep spending better money buying better players and all the best young talent around if anything the gap will be much wider in five years.

Liamo not too sure on the better players you mentioned, but they are big names, we did finish ahead of Spuds, Man City and Pompey. But we crave a Big name at Villa, not so much Henry but someone who can fill Mersons cap, just that little bit of Specialness.

The Gareth Barry Saga:
First of all Barry and Mellberg have been the backbone of the villa team for the last 6 years plus (to loose both of them in one season is an enormous blow)... and saying that it is has only been under MON that Barry has excelled is rubbish....!!!!
Secondly, if (which is now looking more like when) villa sell Gareth Barry it should be for as close to €20 million as possible because chances are villa won't get someone of his calibre for a considerable time. To go back to my first point Gareth Barry has been consistently fantastic for the last few years and I (being Irish might have something on this) cannot understand how Stuart Downing for one has gotten a game ahead of him - I can see him getting 30 more caps and think that he is more than capable of doing so.
To summarize, to liverpool, I should think that Gareth Barry is only work in the region of £15 but to villa I think he is worth considerably more (i.e at least £20)...
