Our very own BarosBarryBouma has been trawling the Liverpool sites and found LFC Online full of Liverpool fans who don't want Gareth Barry moving to Anfield.

Take note Mr Barry, a hero at Villa Park with a testimonial and the chance to get this great club into the Champions League or an automatic place on the bench in the Champions League?

It seems like some people on this site have no faith in our all conquering, expensive reserves whatsoever. These kids can play. These kids have never let us down when making the step up.
To spend millions of pounds to cover a 1 month tournament (at the very longest) is crazy. But I repeat, Alonso is under contract. If the Barry deal falls through - which I hope it does, keep hold of Xabi!

I agree with the Lergy. This whole thing seems to stem from Rafa's wish to keep Gerrard happy, who in turn simply wants to give good mate GB a hand up. GB is worth a lot to us, but perhaps it is significant that we hardly seem to have a bidding war going on here. Whilst I'm sure some of our closer rivals (Tottenham, Man City, etc.) would like GB, I can't see Arsenal or ManU coming in. And while I can imagine Rafa splashing (some) cash to keep SG happy, he ain't gonna risk his own neck by playing GB regularly. So GB leaves B6 for a troubled club who are struggling for cash, only to spend his season sitting on the bench. Not sure his analysis of the situation is too sharp ...

Don't you worry Barry will slot right into the LFC's midfield, he will create competition which Alonso wasnt. Xabi lacked goals and grit away from Home GB is a better premiership player. If he was a product of a Manchester or London club liverpool would be paying £25

Quite a pickle the silly boy has got himself in. He's announced his intentions to leave us like a dirty little turncoat before being sure that the place he wants to go actually wants him enough to pay the asking price. We could have a very sheepish looking CM next season in B6 the way things are going. If not being loved by the fans is likely to affect his form(which it quite probably will), then should we be risking the possibility of having to keep him? Or, if the deal dies and he goes public committing his future and signs a new deal, will this all just blow over? Is it too late for a show of committment? Will he be stripped of the captaincy? Will Milan Baros ever learn to look where he's running instead of straight at the ground? Answers on a postcard

Everyone knows that GB is a legend at villa and that if he leaves he will get tortured when he returns to villa park. If GB leaves he will have no captancy and say in anything like he does at VILLA and im amazed of some of the comments that the KOP have been saying and i agree with them in a way GB they dnt need him at all its a winger they need and maybe a new manager one that has a spine and really knows what he is after instead of keeping just one player happy.

Let's be honest, it might be his only chance to play CL, especially as we don't know the detail of the infamous 5 year plan. As I understand it the plan is to be competing for the title and playing in the CL in 5 years, which period started 2 years ago. In 3 years Barry will be 30 and might be past his best, in 3 years O'Neill aims to be competing but that is still no guarantee. Barry will take the chance if it is given but from what MON has said he is not unhappy at Villa and we all know him to be professional and loyal enough to knuckle down and give his all. If anyone is being disloyal it's all you turncoats wanting to kick him out. None of you treat Ridgewell, Cahilll or Davies like this and they all asked for a move to get more first team football, Barry has not!

I understand where your coming from Villan of the north but I imagine most people, like myself are annoyed by how its all come about. Barry has been with us a long time if he came out and tell us straight that if Villa let him he would move to the pool for a chance he might not get in his career and that he has fond memories with villa and are thankul to all the fans who chanted Barry for Englandall those years, I doubt most Villans would be that upset. Its the fact it has been dragged on with the press (making it worse granted) but even now he is hiding behind his agent. Just look how mellberg left for comparisons on how to leave the club...

We expect these dudes to stay in the same job and yet we are all allowed to move jobs when we get better opportunities. barry has conducted himself ok, he said he was in a tricky situation as he has a lot to lose, good relationship with Villa fans etc. I don't think Liverpool is right for him but then I wouldn't as I think Villa is right for him! Personally think (gasp horror for some here) that MON lost us the skipper when he didn't buy last summer. Barry was quoted saying he was looking forward to the big summer arrivals and it just didn't happen. Then again in the winter the manager could have pushed us on and maybe into 4-5th as we were still in contention. Barry has seen many false dawns at Villa, at Liverpool he would know he is guaranteed Champions League football, only thing he can't guarantee is whether he would be playing as Rafa is nuts with his rotation system.

I think Villan of the North was right first time. No need to apologise. Most football fans are fickle - ask DOL - and minds will change with the situation. If he stays, he will be welcomed back. Yep - I pretty much agree with VOTN's sentiments. Why should we begrudge Gareth moving on to try to better himself in his career after 10 years of great service to our club - IF we genuinely cannot offer him the same opportunities and show the same ambitions. I would be interested to see the reactions of the same fans if (by some miracle) Barry stayed, but then we did sign someone of VanDerVaart's calibre, and as a result Gareth got shunted to one side. Would everyone be on this site moaning about how unfairly we'd treated Gareth? I can't see it personally......

I honestly think Gareth has handled himself well in this situation and he's been completely honest. I just split up with my GF and it took me a while before the hints turned into, I want to break up. I guess it's a similar thing with GB. Oh, and I was doing the breaking up before anyone asks! :-)

This is not about GB, its about your beloved MON making a mountain of a molehill by going public every 2 minutes and pointing accusing figures at others for creating the publicity. It appear clear that no leak happened for 20 days, it only happened when MON got his hands on the offer fax, Interesting strategy. Fear, good post further up the page mate. EVERYONE was expecting signings in the last few windows which didn't materialise. If MON corrects that mistake this summer then i'm sure we'll all perk up and move on. As it stands, i'm still angry about it and very concerned at the risks that were taken last season with squad size. Very reckless behaviour. To be fair to MON he was never the one who mentioned world class signings, he was always cagey about what was on the cards... It was the board who mentioned the signings but they're not the ones who choose the players. Who knows what went wrong, it's obvious players were approached and prices either escalated or the players wouldn't join. Be interesting to know what really has been done behind the scenes.

Couldn't be any further from being touchy if I tried, but your trait is, if the posters don't agree with your opinion (or is that the ONLY opinion?) to call them something petty. Barry was quoted last year about his excitement of new players coming in, the lack of action has to be a major factor in him wanting to move as they didn't transpire. Just my opinion. Barry worked hard himself, always has, he hasn't magically become a good player because of MON although MON has settled him more into one position and that has been a help. I don't really care how much more we'll make on him, I want top players coming in to Villa, not leaving..... you spanner! ;o)

Yeah we're all looking forward to seeing Aston Villa take 4th spot next season, maybe even knocking Arsenal off third because from where we're all standing, Aston Villa are a real force to be reckoned with and after winning the league the season after including the European and FA cups, they will go into Randy Lurcher's planned fifth year and win the World cup, The Davis cup, Wimbledon and The X Factor

Villan of the North. You're way off base. Our club captain, Mr. Aston Villa, our prized player, has done everything within his power (aside from an official transfer request) to engineer a move to a club that we are in direct competition with. It is my understanding that an official transfer request will mean he has to forfeit his loyalty bonus believed to be 7 figures. I'm sure that if there was no bonus to lose he would have handed in a transfer request already and probably will do if this saga drags on much more. Add to that the deplorable manner that Liverpool have handled this situation and it seems that calling us turncoats and telling us to grow up is a little unfair. Furthermore, from you comments calling us all fecking idiots i think it's you that needs to grow up. Liverpool are not a side guaranteed CL football. They have to fight tooth and nail for it every season and don't forget they finished 5th a few season back!! GB will not be guaranteed a starting place in their crowded midfield. If he was leaving for Manure or Chelski we would all be far more receptive to his actions. They are major clubs who are guaranteed their place in the CL without having to requalify for it at the start of each season and we are not realistically looking to go past them in the league over the next few years(yet.......)

Mr Furry you still havnt given any credit to MON getting Barry to sign a new deal. IMO(The only one that counts) some times selling a player for big money enables a club to not only use their summer budget but also push the boat out and buy 2 or 3 better quality players, I think this will be the case with Barry.

MON hasn't created anything out of this situation, it isLiverpool who have created this distateful scenario by tapping up, whether legally or illegally, Barry. Barry has behaved impeccably, he would be stupid not to considera move to a champions league team, and the loyalty he has shown Villa for more than 10 years has been second to none. I hope he stays because i truly believe that his future lies more securely with Villa than it ever would at Liverpool.
