'If It's Football, It's Vital'

GT's Top Four Tips

Graham Taylor has tipped Villa to be in the Top 4 in the coming years and he thinks we will make Champions League football a regular outing.

Taylor has never been shy of speaking out on the Villa, but he must certainly be enjoying the Villa related questions he gets these days.

Speaking to the official site he was full of praise for our growth since Lerner and O'Neill arrived and like most fans, he looking forward to next season with some relish.

'Villa have had some catching up to do because there have been some missed opportunities in years gone by.

'But that's in the past now and Villa look like they can reclaim their place in football's upper echelons. I certainly hope they can do that.

'It will take a lot of hard work but Martin O'Neill is well on his way to leading the club back to the glory land.

'I expect him to get them back into the top four and playing Champions League football on a regular basis. If he does that, there will be no-one happier than me.

'I've known Martin for many, many years and he has a simplicity about his football. He gets that from his mentor Brian Clough.

'If you are a defender, your job is to defend; if you're a centre-forward, you're there to score goals; if you're a wide man, you get crosses in.

'With Martin you will see a very well organised side who play simple, progressive, winning football. That will satisfy the majority of supporters, particularly at a club where they have been off the top for many years.'

Agreed, first time round he was quality. If only he had stayed and not ruined his career by going to the National team.

Look at the players in recent years like Crouch and Der Hammer that he brought into the Villa team,he clearly knew a thing or two, there was quite a weak selection of players for Taylor to choose from when he was England manager.I wish he was involved with scouting at the club.

I agree with both Merlin and PKing. GT was an excellent manager who brought on some good players too. Tony Daley being just one.
