Villa NOT Resigned To Barry Leaving

Villa NOT Resigned To Barry Leaving

Reports yesterday - which I chose to ignore as they were all way off the mark in my opinion and putting 2+2 from quotes together and making 62 - said that Villa were resigned to letting Gareth Barry go to Liverpool and would accept a poultry £14million for him. The General, in our forum (Click Here), has since poured scorn on the reports.

The Villa director said:

'I have read the reports. They are NOT true! No deal has been struck AT ALL and certainly not for a ridiculously low price as quoted. We will probably continue to see specious articles...just know that when I know, you all will know. I cannot promise more than that. I will say that the article is not true.'

Meanwhile, in an article by Lisa Smith in The Post, Stan Collymore says Barry will make the right decision but might have to be selfish for once having been a great servant to Villa.

Adding, 'Villa have never had any problems with Gareth. He has been a great captain and a great player and as long as the club get the right money for him then I don’t think there will be many Villa fans who will begrudge Gareth going if he decides to join Rafa Benitez at Anfield.'

He also says that some fans are resigned to losing Barry but 'it still wouldn’t surprise me if Martin O’Neill managed to persuade him to stay. There isn’t one other manager in the Premier League who could do that but Martin could. I don’t think it is about money with Gareth. I genuinely don’t. He knows he is highly paid as it is. I think if someone could wave a magic wand and say this time next year that Villa would be in the Champions League, then I think that would be enough of an incentive for him to stay.'

Finishing that with Barry now 27 you can understand why he wants to sample the Champions League and sticking up for his mate says 'Loyalty of the kind Gareth has shown for the last ten years is rare in these times.'

Can't argue with that!

you can either look at the GB situation as being boring or really complex. i reckon it is the latter, and for obvious reasons. the guy must be feeling this in a big way and it is his call, what sort of pressure is that?!

Would agree to a certain extent, but the transfer fee will be the only real sticking point as far as i can see. Carrick £18m, what price Gareth?

I am mightily relieved to read the General's statement. That will teach me to even begin to believe what I read in the newspapers. I must learn to keep my assumptions under control.

As long as Liverpool make insulting bids and try to do this on their terms then Barry cant argue.

I was very happy to see the General's comments as well. I'm sure the General has passed on all of our thoughts and comments to Randy and MON. We actually have a club where the fans opinion counts we must not forget that. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed Laursen is an ever present in this coming season, top player...tempted to have his name on the back of my new shirt... :)
