Villa Boss Off To Euro's As A BBC Pundit
Martin O'Neill will be part of the BBC pundit team for the Euro 2008 Finals which kicks off this Saturday, sadly without England!
He explained to the official site he doesn't expect to uncover any hidden gems adding, 'I'm very cautious about signing players from the Euros or from a World Cup because it's a very different environment. Having said that, I did it a few years ago at Celtic. I signed a lad called Joos Valgaeren who was playing for Belgium at the time and impressed me. He came over and he was absolutely brilliant - really brilliant. So I suppose the only experience I have of signing a player from a tournament worked to my advantage. But it wouldn't be something that I would be too keen to do. I think you need to see a wee bit more of a player before making a decision.'
He also says he should basically know all about the players at the finals anyway as most play in the European leagues.
Strange he is off to be a pundit with such a busy summer ahead for Villa?

It seems he lied to us, he said his priority was to sign us some top players this summer, obviously not. Well at least he will make a bit of money i suppose.

i really don't think you can read much into this. Do you seriously think Randy would tolerate his manager foregoing his responibilities to the club in favour of some additional pocket money. Its not as if MON is going to be overworked with the BBC and I am quite sure he will be able to handle his duties as manager during this time.

Adding to IanSymes comment, Iwould think he has also drawn up a list of players he would like to attract to our great club. So I wouldn't think it will detract from his duties as manager of Villa.

Calm down YJ this sounds promising he knows of all the players playing in the Euros anyway... so hes saying im not chasing my targets based on form over 1 month its what i knew about them already... hence he's done some homework, bit gutted to see his only find from a Euro world cup etc was some belgian random player though and salifou... shame lichtenstein aint playing...

The BBC pundits were based in London for the friendly in the Caribbean, just want to clarify that there's been no confusion, as it would be very unusual for the British coverage not to be shot on location for a major tournament, whether we're in it or not?

McCarthy turns people into manic depressives, Linekar just tries to make jokes, Hansen hates the English, Wrighty goes mad about anything English and MON just seems mad RE: that rant about how useless Ibrahimovic is and his constant arguing with the other pundits. Glad England aren't there and can't see why MON is due to this.

What he doe's in his own time is his business. He cant be at Villa beck and call every hour of every day. Hopefully he will spot a few Villa stars of the future and bring them to us before the Inter toto.

Col8, I love you mate, but its that sort of attitude that will cost us, 19 Premiership manager are concentrating solely on improving their squad, one (Villas) manager is spending the summer watching footy matches, that he has already said will be of no benefit to us. If anyone thinks he is only doing 2 hours work on the match days during Euro 2008, then they need a reality check, he will be there alot longer before the filming and some time after. Say if he does 14 games thats 2 weeks of work that is none Villa related, he had the whole summer last year and failed in the market, what makes us think he will do it this summer, if he is putting the BBC first during the Euros?
